Perhaps information of no consequence, but I have a John Adams family living adjacent to Charles Breedlove and Sally Fletcher in Caswell Co, NC in the years 1778, 1783, 1784, 1785. Charles also was involved in a land transaction in Halifax Co, VA in 1782 And, there is at least one John Breedlove who may be of this age in Charlotte Co, VA, not too far away. Bill Breedlove

    2. I have been doing a little research on the Breedlove origins in England. I believe the name was Broadlove in England. They came from the Lincolnshire-Yorkshire area and very possibly were Jacobites. I have ordered some parish records from that area, but have yet to look them over. It will be a tedious job. It is possible that more than one brother came. Hopefully we will unravel this one day if we keep poking.

    3. Dear Breedlovers, I'm sorry to be negative, but I'm very suspicious of this story: At 09:37 PM 10/7/99 EDT, Tried49700@aol.com wrote: >Tom Jones forwarded his message from Theodore with the old story about five >brothers who came from England. I heard this story about five brothers, not from my Breedlove kin, but from the other side of my family about the Ozark "Collins"! I think it is a very common myth that ricochets around many family traditions. (And don't forget the "five Chineses brothers" story--maybe this is a common idea in lots of cultures). Of course, this is not to say it is untrue of the Breedloves (for example, I think there's evidence to back up the story about the Collins who came to the Ozarks), but without any documentation, I would be careful.... 1. [BREEDLOVE-L] Theodore's Message
    2. Tom Jones forwarded his message from Theodore with the old story about five brothers who came from England. I've heard the story too, though never with the twist that the five brothers chose names having to do with 'love." Has anyone actually tried to investigate the origin of the family tale? It's interesting that the Breedloves went in some different directions from Virginia...west to Illinois, wasn't one? My branch went down to Georgia, then my gggrandfather went to Alabama then Arkansas. Did the story about the five brothers travel with each branch of the family, and if it did, could there possibly be some grain of truth there? It's an interesting thought.....Especially since the Breedlove name itself appears to have originated in Virginia (even thought I've read the different speculations of what possible names it could have been derived from). 1. [BREEDLOVE-L] Another son of Charles & Mary Parr Breedlove
    2. tomking
    3. Lately I have been finding more records of a William Breedlove in King & Queen County, Virginia after 1740 or so and a Mary Breedlove who may be his wife or daughter. Today I chanced across a web site with the following blurb: "Breedlove family lived in King & Queen Co. VA related to President Madison. Mary O. Breedlove married John B. Williamson (Scotch) Lived in Hanover County, VA. Lucy Williamson, daughter, married [11 May 1810 Henrico Co] John Bath (English) Lived in Richmond (War of 1812). (1) Sophia Bath married Archie Pae (Scotch) (2) Jane Bath married William Cook. Lived in Richmond, VA." I know of NO relationship of any of the Breedlove family to President James Madison, so any kinship would have to be through the mother of this Mary O. Breedlove, possibly throught the Taylor line of his mother. The Williamson family was thick in Old Rappahannock and Essex Counties where the Breedlove's originated. The above Lucy Williamson would be about 18-25 in 1810 when she married, so she was born 1785-1792. This would place her mother Mary O. Breedlove's birth about 1760-1770. Assuming that her father was this William Breedlove of King & Queen County, then he would have been born in the 1730's, about the same period that Charles and Mary Parr Breedlove were having their children. K&Q county is just below Essex. Just came across this part today so will have to wait till Saturday to see what I can find in Essex and K&Q records for this Williamson family. Does anyone else out there have any data on any Breedlove's in K&Q, or anything on an early William Breedlove? Tom King

    3. Hi Bill, Yes. Judith ALLAMAN Edmundson was first married to Phillip Parr (before Edmundson) and her daughter is the Mary PARR who married Charles Breedlove, and the person mentioned in the will mentioned in this e-mail. Phillip's wife, Judith Allman, is the daughter of Thomas Allaman (Allman) and an unknown first wife. Judith has a brother, William, who is evidently the son of Thomas and his second wife. I can send you the text of my sources for all of this, if you (or anyone else wants it). I am sure it is the same as what Marilyn, Ellen Byrne, and Tom King have, however.
