Judy, Did anyone respond to you about John Wesley Breedlove? I have a John Wesley listed as the grandson of William Watkins Breedlove, Jr. This John Wesley Breedlove was born about 1863 in Bullock Co., AL. His father was John F. Breedlove (1829-about 1900) who married Susan Jane Duke. This is not my direct line, so I have sketchy information about these people. I have a lot of information about William W. Breedlove, Jr. Martha

My family history list March 31, 1777 as Barbara Ann's birthday. However, my family history also notes Barbara Ann as being Barbara Ann Thomas. Enough records prove this is Barbara Shank. Childhood Reveries by Julian Miller (See previous letter dated November 28, 1999) puts her birth on June 30, 1777 in Shenanoah Co., VA. A family history entitled Isaac Breedlove, compiled by Paul and Pat Coffman also gives Elizabeth Breedlove's birth as November 1, 1800. I do not know the source. Julian Miller's family history states November 2, 1800 "in Virginia near the City of Richmond." I doubt the Richmond part. Julian goes on to say, "She died March 28, 1875 in Greenville with pneumonia age 75 years. Buried in Coffman Grave yard beside her husband (Henry H. Miller-noted added by Brad)." Combined with the Stombock/Stomback possibility, a story about Barbara and Isaac would not surprise me. Despite "possible" moral transgressions, the stories may speak of Barbara's appeal toward men both Stombock and Breedlove, and speak of passion. Barbara had many years to repent to God, and certainly was loved by Elizabeth who named her first daughter for Barbara Ann. Thank goodness for forgiveness. It is these stories which bring these people to flesh and blood for me. Was Eveon a long and lingering death bed? Was Eve mentally alive at her death? Was Isaac totally distraught at Eve's dying, and did he take comfort in a moment of weakness? Did he marry Barbara to make things "right." I am not justifying what they may have possibly done. If they did commit such a transgression, I do not condone it. However, judgement is not mine, and these two may have been forgiven by God in later years, but the possible story brings this couple to life, and makes them all too real. Did they leave Shenandoah/Page Co. due to crop failure on the poor farm land of the western slope of the Shenandoah Mountains, or due to Barbara and Isaac's transgressions? Was it a possible previous liason with a Stomback that brought on scandal? Barbara and Isaac did appear to remain with each other till death parted them. Brad

This does seems like the most likely explanation. So not surprisingly it was me who was confused and not the census. Coffman Cemetery is on the Borden-Greenville Road in Floyd County, IN. This is near the border between Floyd and Clark Co., IN. It is said to be an inactive cemetery located 2.3 miles north of U.S. 150, Section 28, Township 1 South, Range 5 East on the Borden Road, to the right of Borden Rd. just before the Chapel Hill Road. It is a half-acre in size an enclosed by a fance. The cemetery was established by Jane Coffman during the May term of the Court of Common Pleas "dated" June 16, 1867. This makes me wonder if the Breedlove graves were moved to this site or if this had been a family plot prior to the Court of Common Pleas activity. It was my understanding that New Providence, Clark Co.,IN was formerly known as Borden. However, the couple below gave me an address which still states Borden, IN. Present day descendant Paul Coffman and his wife (both of Borden, IN) e-mailed me on Fri, 23 January 1998: Coffman Cemetery Greenville Township, Floyd County, IN Breedlove, Barbara A.---1777-1851 Breedlove, Isaac ---1772-1848 These two are a new stone erected by Noble Miller, between the old stones. Old stones have: Breedlove ------1849 Breedlove---no other readable info. Paul and Pat have been to the cemetery themselves. A copy of the burials in the cemetery is also said to be at the NewAlbany - Floyd County Public Library. Paul and Pat sent me a copy of that also. Julian T. Miller wrote a history of the Millers entitled: Early Childhood Reverie It is not dated or published, but Julian Thomas Miller died December 23, 1926. Julian was born 10 April 1860. He would have had the time to hear the family history from his father for at least 30-40 years until his father's death in 1902, and Julian's grandmother, Elizabeth Breedlove Miller, was still alive until March 28, 1875. Julian was 14 at the time of Elizabeth's death, so it is possible that Julian heard stories about his great grandfather Isaac at 12 and 13 years of age directly from his grandmother. My photo copy of Julian's history is from a photocopy of Julian's handwritten document.I need to confirm if this is Julian's writing. The Miller and Coffman Families consider this a true and accurate copy of Julian's words if not his handwriting. Julian was a great grandson of Isaac Breedlove. Julian T. Miller 4 < Samuel Clark Miller 3 < Elizabeth Breedlove 2 < and Isaac Breedlove 1. In his account on page 17 he stated, "He (Isaac) died March 25, 1849 age 83 years." Noble Edwin Miller was the supplier of the tombstones. He died on March 13, 1971. Noble Edwin Miller 5 < Lewis Clark Miller 4 < Samuel Clark Miller 3 < Elizabeth Breedlove 2 < Isaac Breedlove 1. I do not know why there is a date discrepancy between Noble's stones and Julian's history. Clearly, the Miller family is important in understanding the Isaac Breedlove line of Floyd Co., IN. Thanks to the list, Tom, and Charlie. Brad
Meb42639@aol.com wrote, ca November 26, 1999: The son of Isaac (1795) married Margaret Ann Anderson. His name was Martin Breedlove. He was born in 1822 and married Margaret Ann Anderson on 21 Jun 1846. Other children of Isaac and Sarah Miller were: 1.)John (1826). He married Catherine Alvis on 8 Jan 1850 2.)Jacob Wesley (1833). He married Emmarine E. Alvis on 15 Apr 1857 3.)Elizabeth (18 Mar 1824). She married Jonathan Miller on 6 Nov 1842. I did not have the names of George or John as children of Isaac and Barbara. I don't question that but I just did not have them. Brad's reply: ***George and John were not the children of Isaac and Barbara Shank. They were the children of Isaac and Eve Shank. See below. I also do not have a spouse for Martin (1794). The only other Martin I could find married a Lucinda Harvey but I have been told by the Breedlove researchers that that is wrong. So, do you know who Martin married. Brad's reply: I guess Eleanor Brads - (see below) This also could be wrong. I knew Martha Jane Breedlove's father's name was Martin Breedlove and I knew that they lived in the Salem, Washington Co., Indiana area. I did research at the Indiana room at the New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana library and I visited the Stevens library and museum at Salem, Indiana. I found Breedlove information connected with the Anderson and Miller family folders at Salem. I found Sarah Miller (former wife of Isaac) on the 1850 census but no Isaac. Brad's reply: Again this Miller connection makes me believe Isaac (1795) is either a son of Isaac M. (1772) or Isaac M.'s nephew.Does your info specifically state Isaac (1795) is a son of Isaac (1772)? I found a death record for him to have died on 25 Mar 1849. Brad's reply: March 25, 1849 is the death date of Isaac (1772) in my notes. I am going from memory now but I believe I found Isaac on the 1840 Indiana census. I am not sure about the 1830 census. I made copies of some of the material from the family folders. Send me your address and I will send you what I have. Brad L. I saw an archived mail listing where Tom Breedlove was looking for iformation on this family. I have tried to reach him but, his email address listed is no longer valid. I am hoping to reach him concerning the genealogy of Thomas Monroe Breedlove who married Elizabeth Graham 8 Oct 1856. Would also be interested in contacting other researchers following the line. Greetings list! In my searches I came across some Breedloves in Madison County, MS and do not know how they may fit in with my bunch (Thomas W. and his son's John and Leonard) I am probably just missing a clue here, can anyone help? On a microfilm for Tax Rolls for Madison County, MS I found the following Breedloves: 1849 BREEDLOVE, N. A. (did not copy any further information from this record) 1868 BREEDLOVE, A. B. the best that I could decipher the records it had: Value of watches, 1/2 of 1 per cent and had the figure 750 below that; rifle, gun, etc......50 cents = 1; males ....between 21 and 55....two dollars = 1; the last column was state tax and it had 3.25 BREEDLOVE, W. W. for his records it looked like: amount of sales of merchandise by registered merchants or dealers of goods....3 tenths of one per cent = 10.700 (? did not know if that was a period or a comma); rifles, shotguns, etc.... 50 cents = 1; males.....between 21 and 55....two dollars = 1; last column was state tax and it read 32.10 If nothing else - maybe this will help someone else. Regards, Linda
Thanks to Bill Breedlove for sharing his records on his ancestor, James Breedlove of Lunenburg Co., VA. James Breedlove was a very BUSY man! Marilyn Owen

Could you possibly post the "good thinking about who belongs to whom" on the list. Thanks, Martha
Thanks for your good thinking on who belongs to who on the Breedloves. I would love to have a copy of the Chronologies that you mention. My husband and I have been serving a Mission for the LDS church as directors of the Family History Center in Manhattan. We are due to go home in Dec. Then I am hoping to have some time to get back to work on my own Genealogy projects. Now, I only have time to help other people do there's. ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Hope Perry Breedlove, p.15 of his book, conjectured that Charles and Spencer were sons of James and Lucrecy Breedlove. In his note also on p.15 Hope recognizes the possibility that James and Robert, brothers of Nathan, sons of Charles (and Mary Parr) Breedlove, moved to Lunenburg/Charlotte counties, VA. At this juncture I think a new ordering of available circumstancial evidence supports an argument for the brothers Charles and Spencer, who had RWS from Caswell Co, NC being the sons of James and Mary Breedlove, versus James and Lucrecy Breedlove. some considerations in support of James and Mary Breedlove are: a. Lunenburg records also suggest James and Robert are brothers. b. Charlotte records along with John and Benjamin Breedlove's marriage to Watkins sisters suggest they are brothers. c. Wills and land records account for some Breedlove family members of John, Benjamin, and Robert but do not include the names of Charles and Spencer. d. James and Mary Breedlove have three daughters (Elizabeth, Kindness, and Sina), but no sons are mentioned. e. Charles and Spencer with RWS from Caswell Co, NC may have been young adults by 1776 (Charles married Sally Fletcher in 1774.) and this would account for their omission from the records of Lunenburg Co, VA prior to this time. f. James had land transactions in Halifax Co, VA 1767-1779 as did Charles 1782-1785. Charles had land transactions in Caswell Co, NC 1777-1785, just across the VA line from Halifax Co, VA. g. Tax records suggest James dies about 1791. Land records in 1797 refer to his heirs, James Breedlove, deceased. h. Spencer is apparently dead by 1785. Charles begins moving to Rutherford Co, NC by 1785 and remains there until 1804. i. Another interesting fact is that there are at least three Spencer surname adult males in Charlotte Co. records which may be the predecessors for the namesake, Spencer Breedlove. A chronology of sources and references relating date/county/event was prepared for James and Mary Breedlove, and for Charles Breedlove and Sally Fletcher. I am willing to share these chronologies for your scrutiny/improvement on the List or by personal e-mail. Bill Breedlove
