I met a descendant of Kindness Breedlove on another list that I am on - she is not a subscriber to the Breedlove list. Can anyone help with the parents of her Kindness Breedlove? I could not remember who they were and do not have it in my files. She has additional information on the descendants. I am forwarding this bit of information with her permission. << Descendants of Kindness Breedlove Generation No. 1 1. Kindness1 Breedlove. She married William Stembridge. Child of Kindness Breedlove and William Stembridge is: + 2 i. Jincy2 Jensey Stembridge, born Nov 7, 1785; died May 15, 1833. Generation No. 2 2. Jincy2 Jensey Stembridge (Kindness1 Breedlove) was born Nov 7, 1785, and died May 15, 1833. She married Benjamin Temple Abt. 1802, son of Peter Temple and Nancy Epps. >>
I recently asked for information regarding Lafayette Breedlove, nickname Laf, who reportedly lived on a Choctaw Indian Reservation sometime between 1920 - 35. A nice gentlemen responded with some information, which I accidentally deleted - would you be so kind as to send it again. Since that time I found out he was married to Anna Shomo, and had at least two daughters named Minnie and Pearl. Any information on either Anna or Lafayette would be greatly appreciated. rhwoodcove@aol.com
After further search, I have to retract the lineage I gave for Craig Breedlove. Evidently his father Norman's death certificate has the wrong maiden name for his mother. What it has is Vandermere when it should be Vanmeter. I relied on an old letter from Olive Breedlove Smith that said William Breedlove had married a Dana Vandermere but a descendant of that family says that is wrong. This family did have a son Lloyd but he died at an early age, before 10. In digging through the KY 1910 Soundex I found another Norman Breedlove, age 4, son of Gorman R. & Florence Breedlove in Louisville. The name sounded familiar so I checked my California Death Index and found Gorman R. Breedlove had died in Los Angeles 23 Mar 1918. Evidently his widow remarried as Norman is shown in 1920 as the stepson of Arthur Shickard. Further checking the index showed a Florence Breedlove, nee Vanmeter had died 7 JAn 1959 in Los Angeles, being born 19 Aug 1888 in KY which fits exactly so she must have outlived the 2nd husband and took the Breedlove name back. Gorman Breedlove was the son of Eugene Breedlove and Hattie Runner of Louisville, KY. Eugene and family lived with his mother-in-law Martha Runner on the 1880 and 1900 census and then his widow Hattie shows up with her mother again in 1910 so Eugene must have died before 1910 just before Kentucky started keeping death records. I have death certificates on Hattie and two of Gorman's brothers. Eugene was born either Jan 1850 or May 1851 in KY, but I cannot find any Breedlove family on the 1850, 1860, or 1870 census with a son named Eugene so that's as far back as I can take this line. Eugene is a name used by the Warren County, KY Breedlove's so he most likely comes from that branch, just no proof as yet. There were a few Breedlove's in a Shaker community there that I can find almost no records on. The line for Craig now stands at: Craig Breedlove 1937 Norman Lloyd Breedlove & Portia Gorman R. Breedlove & Florence Vanmeter Eugene Breedlove and Addie "Hattie" Runner Tom King
To Tom King: Good detective work in researching the lineage of Craig Breedlove. I was not aware that there were Breedloves in the Shaker Community in Warren Co., KY, but since that group was celibate, any Breedloves after joining the sect, would not have left descendants. Marilyn Owen
I am seeking help in proving that William A. Breedlove (b.abt. 1798) is the son of Martin Breedlove b. 19 Dec. 1771 VA. I think if I could link William to one of his brothers or sisters I could then link the sibling to Martin proving he is William's father also. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, Bonnie
Dear Breedlove Researchers, I have transcribed the Albemarle co., VA tax lists for Breedlove for 1782-1799. When I tried to send the results to myself, the columns showing the various taxable categories, did not hold true on the page. So I am going to summerize what I found. With the exception on 1782 which was divided into six districts, the Albemarle List is divided into two parts. The area where the Breedloves lived was first described as Fredericksville Parish, then variously as Thomas Garrett's List, Thomas Garth's List, James Lewis' list. 1782 Thomas Breedlove, 1 male +21, 1 black, 7 cattle, 2 horses. 1783, unreadable; 1784 no Breedloves found 1785, Thomas: 1 male; 14 cattle, 3 horses 1786, Thomas: 1 male; 3 cattle 1787, Thomas: 1 male +21; 2 males 18-21; 5 cattle; 14 horses 1788, Thomas: 3 males 16-21; 4 horses 1789, Thomas: 2 males 16-21; 4 horses 1790, Thomas: [no tithes], 3 horses Cornelius: 1 male 16-21; 1791, Thomas: [no tithes]; 4 horses Maddison: 2 males +16; 3 Blks +16; 3 horses 1792, Thomas: [no tithes], 3 horses Maddison 1 male +16; 4 blks +16; 2 blks 12-16; 3 horses Martin 1 male +16 1793 Thomas: 1 male +16; 2 horses Maddison: 1 male +16; 7 blks +16; 1 blk 12-16; 8 horses 1794 Thomas: 2 males +16; 2 horses Maddison 1 male +16; 4 horses Cornelius: 1 male +16; 1 horse 1795 Thomas: 2 males +16; 1 blk +16; 2 horses Maddison 2 males +16; 6 blks +16; 9 horses Cornelius 1 male +16; 1 horse 1796 Thomas: 2 males +16; 4 horses Maddison 2 males +16; 6 blks +16; 1 blk 12-16; 7 horses Cornelius 1 male +16; 1 horse 1797 Thomas [no tithes]; 4 horses Maddison 2 males +16; 6 blks +16; 1 blk 12-16; 6 horses Cornelius 1 males +16; 2 horses 1798 Thomas [no tithes]; 4 horses Maddison 2 males +16; 6 blks +16; 1 blk 12-16; 6 horses Cornelius 1 male +16; 1 blk +16; 2 horses 1799 Thomas: [no tithes] 2 blks +16; 1 horse Maddison 2 males +16; 6 blks +16; 1 blk 12-16; 6 horses Cornelius 1 male +16 It's interesting to observe how the information for Thomas Breedlove changes. He must have been made exempt from taxes for himself, for many years, because of his advanced age or illness. Without doubt Albemarle County taxed it's citizens before 1782 [the year these lists began], but this is what has survived. I have ordered the film for the next tax list which goes to 1813. Hi cousins! I'm seeking to verify information on my great-grandfather Franklin Avillo Breedlove, apparently of Morgan County, Indiana. His daughter, Darle Breedlove Rice, was the matriarch of a large (Breedlove) Rice family clan that will be holding a reunion this weekend in Illinois. Until tonight, we had always thought his name was William due to a faulty memory of my mother, and thus wasted huge amounts of time looking for the wrong name in the records. Its' amazing how fast it was to find a hopefully correct linkage into the greater Breedlove family once the name was corrected! Here's what we currently have from Census Records and FamilySearch: Darle Breedlove (b.1894 IL) and Lawrence Rice (b. 1892 IL) Franklin Avillo Breedlove (b.1854 IN) and Mary Jane Elizabeth Underwood (b.abt 1858 NC) Robert Breedlove (b.1830 VA) and Rebecca Steward (b.1830 OH) Thomas Breedlove (b.abt 1804 VA) and Mary Elizabeth Lloyd (b. abt 1808 VA) Any verification of this information or further linkages (both linkages further back into the Virginia Breedloves and any information about the wives' families) would be greatly appreciated by I and the reunion attendees this weekend! Thanks, Mark (Breedlove Rice) Greeley

This is a great website for Texas Probate listings for approximately 30 counties. I did locate Breedlove names on the list. http://three-legged-willie.org/texas.htm Debbie B.

After checking other facts, I am not so sure of this. ANyway, the first wife Sarah Demoss dies about 1890 and he remarries Dana C. "Kellozina" (Vandermere????) about 1895 and has seven children by her. Only one know son, William Cornelius Breedlove from his 1st wife. He is on the 1880 and 1910 census of Davidson Co., TN and his widow in 1920 with four children. All seven children are shown on the 1910 or 1920 census as being born in Kentucky. Are there are other recorded burials at this cemetery? Tom King
I am trying to start a search on Lafayette Breedlove, who lived in Arlington, Virginia during the 1920's and 30's. He also lived on a Choctaw reservation in Oklahoma sometime during the same time period. He had two daughters, Minnie and Pearl. Pearl married a Lester Strickler. That is all the information I have. Can anyone help? Robin email: rhwoodcove@aol.com
I have run across a person I am trying to identify. Do you have any information on William Franklin Breedlove born 4/8/1837 in Kentucky died 8/21/1915 buried at Breedlove Cemetery, Eaton Rd. Nashville,Tenn. married Sarah Demoss I found a W.T. Breedlove listed as being in the Confederate Calvary 8th Regiment,Tennessee Calvary (Smith's)in the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System Web Site. He would have been about the right age during the Civil War. could W.T. be William Franklin or what? Does anyone know anything about W.T Breedlove as being in the Civil War. Simpson County is just north of nashville, so the locale is close. David C. Breedlove
If anyone is interested I have compiled all of the information on the Breedlove death's into one file, about 34 KB. It includes those before 1940 which are not on the online listing. I sent the earlier edition to this list last year but this is too big to include in a message, so if anyone wants it, just write me directly. There are some differences in birth dates between the online list and the Social Security Death Index. I am more inclined to believe the SSDI date as you had to have some proof of the date of birth to get a card, while the information on birth on a death certificate is second hand, coming from a source who may not have access or knowledge of the correct information. The list just has those who died with the surname Breedlove but I am adding another 40+ of females born as Breedlove but who married which I found by just putting only Breedlove as the fathers name in the search query. Have another list of Breedlove as the mother's surname. Will have to check the new Texas online indexes to see if you can do searches like that on their site. Tom King
Tom, You could be right, my dad always said Craig was the son of his cousin Bill. ie: William. Why don't you try contacting him again, as we age we become more interested in our genealogy. Beth Porter
Hi Tom King, Good going! I've wondered for several years how he ties into the "old" Breedlove family. He's surprisingly close to me: 5th cousin once removed. Tom Jones
If anyone has wondered how the race car driver Craig Breedlove fits into the family group, I have just figured it out with the help of the online California Death Index. His line runs: Craig Breedlove 1937 - Norman Lloyd Breedlove 1906-1992 & Portia William Franklin Breedlove & 2nd wife Dana Vandermere Cornelius Vaughn Breedlove & Celia Brown David Watts Breedlove & Nancy Breedlove William Breedlove & Mary Watts Martin Breedlove & Elizabeth Carr Thomas Breedlove & Sarah Broaddus Charles aBreedlove & Mary Parr This would appear that there are only 7 generations between Craig and Charles, but that's the way it computes. Some lines go out to 13 or more generation up to the present, and I know Craig has grandchildren at least by now. Tom King
-- :Tom-that is interesting that you worked out Craig's line..one of the researchers :several years ago when he was at the height of his racing career wrote to him-he :told her he wasnt interested. :Ellen Byrne :
Thanks Tom King, for the lineage of Craig Breedlove. I for one have wondered what his line was, and didn't realize he was so closely connected to my own. Marilyn Owen
Rootsweb has just added indexes to the California Births since 1905 and deaths since 1940 at userdb.rootsweb.com/ca/birth/search.cgi and userdb.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi These online indexes have more detail than the microfilm and microfiche set of indexes that are available in some libraries. I've found quite a few maiden names for Breedlove wives that I didn't have before. On deaths you can search by state of birth, by surname, surname of father or surname of mother, so I've found a few Breedlove females that were children on 1920 and earlier censuses, that later married. Hope this helps. Tom King
This Sunday, we travel to the Davis cemetery near the Fontana to join with other relatives in decorating the graves. Last year, we had Sawyers, Crisps, Stillwells, and Breedloves there. Also, the Fontana Dam draw down begins August 1st. It is the 5 year draw down for dam inspection and the lowest water will be about Thanksgiving time for two weeks. The water is so cold the houses and buildings are visible and well preserved under the water. If you are thinking of visiting this area, this year is the time to go.
