    2. Dear Breedlovers, I now have a copy of the Liberty magazine piece, and I believe it is historical fiction. The introduction says, "Proceedings being a true account of the trial of John Bunyan, Tinker, of Bedfordshire. *Well*, *maybe* *not* *true*." [Emphasis mine] Later it says, "So, what if a Yale professor on sabbatical in London, did find, in the musty papers of Thomas Breedlove....." which also sounds like a hint that this is playful speculation rather than a true historical report. No name is given for the Yale professor, which seems odd if there was one who found the papers. Where are the papers now, what library, archive, museum, collection? But the author, listed as Howard V. Pendley III, is said to be pastor of a Baptist church in Bedford, VA (not a Yale prof). There's no explanation of his role as discoverer of papers, just as author. Finally, there is an editor's note about modernizing the English, but no indication of who the editor is (Pendley, the Yale Prof, the magazine editor?) I found the author's son, Howard V. Pendley IV, on the web and asked him about the piece and for contact info about his father over a week ago, but haven't heard back. So I think this is fiction. And so I believe it still stands that no one has found any record of anyone named "Breedlove" (I dunno about Broadloaf, etc) before Charles of VA in 17th-18th century. Sorry to be so pessimistic. I'll let you know if I ever hear from Pendley III. Cheers, Marc Breedlove At 02:37 PM 10/16/00 EDT, MNBKahn@aol.com wrote: >Dottie & Bulldog: > >Thank you for sending the information on Thomas Breedlove. I have retained the firm "The Institute of Heraldic and _GENEALOGICAL Studies" Northgate,Canterbury,Kent, CTI IBA, England..I capitolized the Genealogical aspect of their services to emphasize it is this (People) connection to our ancestors that is more relevant to what we are engaged with today (Some of you already have some idea of what the coat-of-arms,etc. was all about), that involved the HERALDIC aspect of the earlier study done by this firm back in the 1950's. 2. Tom, In reply to your question about Breedloves and skin cancer or cancer in general: my father, Iverson Delansen Breedlove, Jr., died of a malignant melanoma and I have had one removed from my nose -- not a pretty sight, but I am doing fine five years later. My father had red hair and a red head's complexion. He also loved to garden, hunt and fish. The Texas sun must have been too much for him. I also wonder if his grandfather, Henry Fletcher Breedlove, died of some form of cancer. I was sent a wonderful obituary for Henry Fletcher from an Arkansas newspaper. It sounded like he suffered a while before he died. Martha Breedlove Kahn

    2. Dottie & Bulldog: Thank you for sending the information on Thomas Breedlove. I will check the website because the court records did not arrive in a readable form. The late 1600s are the same period that Charles Breedlove appears in the U.S. It is also close to the time when the Broadlove entries appear in the parish records in Lincolnshire. There may be a relationship. I am seriously considering finding a genealogist in England to help us with this. I am also dying to return to the U.K. and poke around a little more myself. Hopefully, in 2001. If anyone else on the list has something to add to this early Breedlove search in England, please let us know. The more data a researcher has to start with the better our chances of finding the original Breedloves in England. This Thomas is the first one to spell his name exactly the same as we do in the U. S. It is interesting to me that so far every one we have found over there have the same given names as the early Breedloves in Virginia. Martha

My husbands Greatuncles were the same way all affecting the nose. One of these uncles is going thru treatment of gland cancer, and I've noticed his nose has cleared up totaly. Suzie

    3. >From the response I've received in just the past few hours, it would appear that cancer of one type or another is encountered in many different branches of the Breedlove family. I don't know if this is genetic or not. The doctors always ask about history of heart problems in the family (none on my line) but never ask about cancer. Mine was a squamous cell carcinoma, which is a little worse than basal carcinoma and much better than the third type of skin cancer, melinoma. As I sit here trying to get my reading glasses to stay over my ear than is all bandaged up, I recall reading that skin cancers are also caused by areas of skin that are under constant irritations, such as from bra straps or glasses or jewelry. The surgeaon says they got it all and scrapped the cranium for samples to be sure. They've sutured pads to my ear to cover the skin graft that will come out next Friday. That's the part that hurts, my neck where they took the skin from is very itchy and tight. He says they caught it well in time which is important in skin cancers, but I won't get into the long bunch of foulups I had getting it done at the VA Hospital, two months after I was originally scheduled for this surgery. I'll get close followups on it from Dermitology forever so I'll be just fine. Thanks for all of your kind thoughts. 3. Last year I started recording the cause of death along with the other vital information about the descendants of John Breedlove (of North Carolina) in my database (at <http://www.geocities.com/~arslanm/breedlove/breedlove.html>). I've started doing this for the other families I am researching, too. It does show if certain diseases are prone to run in certain branches of families. I don't see any evidence of skin cancer in this branch of the Breedlove's (murders were more common), but it's far distant from your line and only a small sample size is represented. I wish you the best of luck. Take care. tomlking wrote: > Having just come home from the hospital after having a cancerous > carcinoma removed from behind my ear, I wonder just how prevalent cancer > and skin cancer is in the other Breedlove lines. 3. Having just come home from the hospital after having a cancerous carcinoma removed from behind my ear, I wonder just how prevalent cancer and skin cancer is in the other Breedlove lines. I know my 3G-grandfather Ira Meade Breedlove had skin cancer as it shows on his neck in the pictures I have of him and his obituary in 1879 says he died of that dread disease cancer. Very few other descendants of Ira have had it to my knowledge and one died of cancer having worked all his life in a nuclear power plant in Washington so it's hard to tell if he got cancer from hererity or from his job. Doctors have told me my skin cancer came from being light complected and the overexposure to the sun down here in Texas. I hardly go outside but a couple of times a day just to walk the dogs, but it will be with a hat from now on. Do any of the other Breedlove lines have any history of cancer or other diseases that perhaps we are all prone to? _____NetZero Free Internet Access and Email______ http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html

About 10 years ago I had a Curtis Breedlove family reunion here in Russellville, Ar and Leister (I think as I get those twins mixed up) came and he has since died. I have corresponded with Pauline, a daughter of Tennie also. I have a nice picture of Fine when she was young it is really pretty and i will share that with you. I also have a picture of Jo Bob when he was very young, it looks like a school picture. I look forward to hearing from you. Juanita Curtis Smith

Posted on: Breedlove Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Breedlove/35 Surname: ------------------------- Do you have an exact date of birth for Mary Viola and dates for BOTH of Andrew's marriages? He was listed on the 1900 census with a wife Margaret E. and daughter Fannie, then in 1910 with wife Rufina so it's possible that Mary was the daughter of his first wife and not his 2nd and being so young Mary may not even remember who her mother really was. Leonard must have been born after 1920 as he is not listed as a child in this family in 1900, 1910 or 1920.
