    3. Nancy, Might your James Bray may have been in the war between the states. In 1909 or so the descendants of my James Bray of Nebraska were contacted regarding an extra allotment for Homesteading that would have been possible to have sold.if he had been in the civil war. My James Bray was not in the states during the civil war so nothing became of it. Your dates seem to fit. If that is the case civil war records might shed some additional light on it.If you are interested, I can dig out the correspondence that was a result of this inquiry.
