Hullo from Sydney ,Australia, I am seeking info re my Great-Grandfather JOSEPH BRAY. I believe he was prabavly born in England but it may have been Ireland. Im am told his father was also JOSEPH and JOSEPH 11 was serving with the Roual Engineers in Spike Island, Cobh, Co. Cork, Ireland and in 1857 applied for and was granted permission to marry Margaret Chapman. This he did and my Grandfather WILLIAM JOSEPH BRAY (later known as Chapman in Australia where he married and died in that name) was born in 1858. There was also a daughter Mary Jane in 1862 and her mother Margaret died a few days later and is buried in Cloyn Cemetary. I dont know what happened to the daughter. Father Joseph Bray was sent to serve in Canada where he deserted in August 1863. This is where the trail finishes but I have found a Joseph Bray born Irel who married Ann Bray 1872 in New York. The big qurstion is, is he the sane Joseph Bray? By this time his sin was in Australia living as Chapman' Pardon any ,isakes, I now have limited vision. Lex Campbell, Sydney, Australia.
