    3. I must extend my apologies and offer a correction to this last post. Cousin Carlyn brought to my attention that James and Winnie actually married in 1849. And when I went back and checked my record from the court-certified recording of Winnie's Bible records, 1849 was, indeed, what it said. I must have been too caught up in just wishful thinking that they were the same. Again, my apologies. Hello Bray Cousins, I recently took a week-long genealogical trip to Salt Lake City, and am optimistic about my findings and wanted to share them with you all. Especially, from Knox County (KY) Records, Marriage Book A, 1816-1850: 9/27, 1843 BRYANT, Abel to GOLDEN, Winnie _Wm. Bryant, father_ Stephen Golden, father James Golden, bondsman Obviously, the name is wrong, but the date and other info corresponds to James Abel BRAY's marriage to Winnie Golden, 27 September 1843. Since Bryant Bray lived past his 92nd year, according to the 1850 census where he is found living next door to James and Winnie, there is a logical link to any confusion the clerk may have had. And true, there were BRYANTs in the area as well as BRAYs. In the 1840 census of Knox Co., KY, (Heritage Quest Online)on page 309 of the images is listed a BRYANT, Pascal G. with 3 males 10-15; 3 males 16-20; and one male listed as above 100 years old!! One female is listed as 15-20 and one as 20-30. On page 310, BRAY, Bryant is listed with one male 10-15; one male 16-20; and one male 80-90. There are one female to age 5; one 10-15; one 30-40; and one 70-80. (This 16-2- male could fit James.) On page 311, GOLDING, Stephen is listed with males 10-15; 16-20; 50-60, and one female 10-15; two 16-20; and one 50-60. James GOLDING is listed next with two males under 5; one 5-10 and one 30-40, and two females under 5; and one 20-30. Thomas GOLDING is listed on p. 327 with one malemale 20-30 and 3 females under 5; one 20-30 and a 70-80 year old female. On the page with James Golding there is a dark strip which appears to be/have been a piece of tape over the top few letters of the last name, but it appears to be a Bryant, John with 3 males 5-10; one 16-20; one 50-60 and two females under 5; one female 10-15; one 16-20; one 20-30; one 30-40; and one female 50-60. There was another by the name of Abel Bryant listed as having married Eliza Duncan 29 Dec. 1846 in Campbell Co., TN. Our James is recorded in certified county records, apparently taken from Winnie's Bible, as having been born 1823 in "Hancock Co." TN. Hancock wasn't created until 1844 from Claiborne and Hawkins counties. Checking the 1820 TN census on Heritage Quest Online, we find Kinchen, Stogner, and William all enumerated in Franklin Co., TN. Another William is recorded in Franklin township, Williamson County; there is a James in White Co., and a Joseph H. in Smith Co., for a total of only six results for TN, none in the immediate Cumberland area. Thorndale and Dollarhide's GUIDE TO THE U.S. FEDERAL CENSUS says the federal census for all of the counties east of Morgan Co., TN (i.e. Campbell, Claiborne, Grainger, Hawkins, etc.) were lost, so I guess the online images are from reconstructed county copies? ?? I don't know for sure, need to check up on it. Well, it has taken me all week to assimilate it all and get this much down, because everything I write down starts me off on another tangent. (but isn't that the way with genealogy??!!) I will close with this much and let you chew on it for a while before I add any more of the GOLDEN and SCOTT info I found. Let me know what you think. All comments and opinions appreciated. (not necessarily agreed with, but welcome. <grin>) Yours Tree-ly Nancy Bray Cooper

It shows Gustaf Bray was born 09/10/1874 in Wisconsin and married Mary Beauplotz born abt 1879 in Wisconsin. Their children were Edward Rudolph ( my husband's grandfather),Charles, Henry, Emma, and Alice. Gustaf's parents were Fred Bray born 1847 and Mary Loebel born 01/29/1854 in Austria. Their children were including Gustaf, Edward, Lewis, Charles, Mary and Minnie ( twins). Mary's parents were Joseph Loebel and Johanna Rollig also from Austria. She also had a brother Frank, born Dec 24, 1857 According to one of the family notes, Frank came to Oregon, accompanied by his father Joseph. I am unsure when that happened though. Joseph died in Linn Co, Oregon, Aug 27, 1912. If any of these names sound familiar please let me know. I am willing to share what information I have. I want to be able to verify the information on the family tree. Thanks Dee
