    1. Re: BRAYs of Marion Co., GA
    2. Marianne Gilbert
    3. Hi Mary and Don, I have a BRAY in Screven Co. GA - just across the state to the east from Marion Co. Her name was Sarah Bray and she married William PEARCE. Do you have any Brays in Effingham or Screven Co? I don't know anything about Sarah's parents, but she was born about 1763, married William Pearce in about 1781, and died in 1801. She is listed as William Pearce's spouse in the DAR records, as he fought in the Revolutionary War. I don't have the records of his service yet, however. I'm hoping it will tell me more than I know, when I do send for them. William Pearce's father was Joshua Pearce and he married Hannah GREEN, so that name is also familiar with yours, Mary. Joshua and Hannah were originally from NC. Hannah is related to the family of Nathanial Green somehow (I believe he was an officer in the Revolutionary War). I also have LANIER, MUNSON, TANNER, and TALBOT families who married into the PEARCE line in and around Screven Co. GA. Some of them (my line of Munson and Pearce) moved to MS (Wilkinson Co.), then LA (West Feliciana and Rapides Parishes), then finally to TX. Do any of these sound familiar to you? 1. Seeking Horace Bray (c. 1823 - 1880) NY, CT, OH
    2. Byron Bray
    3. Seeking information regarding Horace Bray (born around 1823). He listed his place of birth as New York in the 1850 census and as Connecticut in the 1860 census. He married "Anna" (or "Emma"), a woman from Canada, probably in the late 1840's. By 1850, they were located in Revenna County, Ohio. By 1860, they lived in Huntington, Lorain County, Ohio. They had 4 children that I know of: Emily Bray (b. 1852), Alfred Francis ("Frank") (b. 1853), Hattie Bray (b. 1856), and George Bray (b.1859). Horace listed his occupation variously as "shoemaker" and "ambrotypist". Any information on Horace, his parents or children would be of great help. His son, Alfred Francis Bray, was my G-Grandfather. I have extensive information on Alfred's descendents that I can share. Byron C. Bray 3135-15th Ave., S.E. Albany, OR 97321 e-mail: [email protected]

My ggg-grandmother Sarah Bray may have been kin of Hannah's, possibly her sister. My gg-grandfather, James Simmons , married Sarah's daughter Sarah Ann in Marion Co. May 2, 1847. They moved to Dale Co., Al. by 1860 and James' mother-in-law Sarah, was reported in the household. Her age was listed as 60 and her state of birth was SC. The daughter Sarah was born 1832 in Ga according to the same census. I have not researched this line beyond this scarce info. 2. Harold Helm
    3. BRAY (or variant) should always be capitalized & used as the 1st word of the Subject line. If a prior poster did not begin this way please change the header to this form with BRAY (or O'BRADY or other spelling as the first word). Never continue an OFF topic "thread" (or chat) on the list. Ask the listowner (HH) privately if you need help with the Subject line or the group's focus. My address is [email protected] BRAY - YEAR - LOCATION is the format for Subject line. Fill in subject line with your spelling & then key YEAR & LOCATION of the 1st event explicitly detailed in the body of your message. Send it to [email protected] Please PRINT THIS, SAVE IT: Do NOT post Test messages or errors- [email protected] is the address for administrative needs or concerns - such as SUBSCRIBE, unsubscribe, lost persons or mail, any off topic item -ask PRIVATELY for help. NOTE -if you get this you ARE already subscribed to BRAY-L by the listowner. NEVER send attachments to ANY list! Ask privately before mailing. Only send GEDCOM & files > 50Kb & pictures ON snail mail disks to: Harold Helm 2306 Westgate, Houston TX 77019 USA (713) 529-2333 Please help us - recruit new members & explain list guidelines. Mentors volunteer http://www.neosoft.com/~sundance/angels.html We are most fortunate to have mentors, to help with individual questions or postings. If you get e-mail from one, please respond. If your system crashes only repost genealogy message or ask Harold. If you are already getting what is needed, a private "Thank you" is appropriate. Or simply ask Harold per mailto:[email protected] For posting of BRAY or variant spelling explicitly connected to family / places / genetics / word origins research, send data to [email protected] <=ADDRESS spelling for all variants & Please post BRAY (or other spellings) & their spouses, ancestors, collaterals, descendants' data per above guidelines for example: Mail to: [email protected] Subject: O'BRADY, Isaac L. - 1622 - Lancaster, England In the body of the message give more details and connections - if you list URLs you must excerpt relevant details, per THIS list in FOCUS to the subject at hand (not all readers have web access) & give your name and e-mail address. Also share with the list what sources are appropriate to data you present, or query, per focus. Do not repeat an entire prior post - reference its first 3 lines. THANK YOU for sharing & cooperation per simple guidelines :) If you can rewrite this shorter, tell Harold! Periodically we may be burdened by yet another false round of "virus warnings" or pleas to help a sick child or some urgent soapbox issue. For example a supposed warning about AOL. DO NOT post or respond to messages on this List about these or chain letters or thread (repeat of an off topic) or lost persons or crashes or any off topic subject. Also if your address changes tell the listowner privately. Please do SHARE on the list ON topic facts & sources, per the FOCUS subject of genealogy, family connections, genetics explicit to this surname and its variants, word origins, place names. Give credit to sources, and give your name and e-mail addresses in the body of the message. And do keep in mind our GOAL is cooperative communication per our focus. WE wish to preseve family history. Please share ON topic to the list. Please keep listowner informed of alternate e-mail & snail addresses and your phone number (privately) to [email protected] You too may find that a mail loop, or hacker or spammer or system crash plus simple error may leave you without communication. Simply repost your message again, on topic to the list. If we have not heard from you we assume the mail was lost, and we will repost ours also. We also realize that internet service providers may change your e-mail while you are on vacation (or otherwise unaware) so the listowner has need of alternate ways to contact you, if your address is causing a loop or otherwise generating error message. To get your mail READ quickly and to ensure prompt delivery via any surname list please follow the simple format SURNAME - YEAR - LOCATION (fill in actual data on the Subject line). This message, or variants, may be repeated as we get new subscribers or as other occasion warrants. Please privately copy it to friends verbatim, who have not yet learned how to do postings per netiquette and volunteer your services to [email protected] as group mentor. We have several other projects which need volunteers- ask Harold :)
