    3. Nancy, Might your James Bray may have been in the war between the states. In 1909 or so the descendants of my James Bray of Nebraska were contacted regarding an extra allotment for Homesteading that would have been possible to have sold.if he had been in the civil war. My James Bray was not in the states during the civil war so nothing became of it. Your dates seem to fit. If that is the case civil war records might shed some additional light on it.If you are interested, I can dig out the correspondence that was a result of this inquiry. 3. Nancy, You might find some information in THE BRAYS OF FISHER RIVER by Edna B. Reece. She wrote two volumes. In the 1800 NC census, there is a Bryant (Buant) Bray. I don't know if he could be James's ancestor. You can probably get these books at a FHC of the Mormon Church. Most of these early Brays came from England to Maryland or Virginia. They then began to spread out westward through SC, NC and then on to KY and IN. Where were your Brays born? I suspect there is a connection back to the NC Brays, and there were several families of NC Brays. Edna B. Reece's books are difficult to follow. They might give you an idea of where to start looking. I believe you will do just as well to go back to the 1850 census and try to learn who your James's father is. I have both books and I am unable to find anything for sure that connects your family. If you can learn who James's dad is, I might find something to connect him. 3. Hello Yall... Workin' on my Southern accent there some....*hehehehe* Anybody have a Thomas WARD m. Mary BRAY? Thomas was b. 1-22-1816 and Mary was b. 2-12-1817. Mary was the daughter of (drum roll) John H & Hannah Bray. Thomas was the son of (drum roll) Anthony & Priscilla. And you'll never guess who is brother is! That's right. Eneas Ward! My great-great-great-great-great-grandpa! Woohoo! The latest date I have for these two (Thomas * Mary) is they were received in mbrp (this does mean membership, right?) in Mill Creek, Hendricks Co., Indiana. This is also where Eneas & Elizabeth and their children lived up until some time. But this message is about Thomas right now.. Any connections? Please! I beg someone to find a connection somehow (I'm desperate). Write Back Chris Chris's Homepage http://www.datastar.net/users/cawolf/chris/chris.htm Please Sign The Guestbook! I want your thoughts!

    1. [BRAY-L] Elizabeth BRAY, d. of John BRAY and Elizabeth HAYS of Camborne
    2. Ken Nelson
    3. My WILLIAMS research has taken a strange twist. According to the latest report, the family tradition is now that I may be "related, somehow" to Billy BRAY of Cornwall preaching fame in two ways. My g-grandfather was James Harvey BRAY, born 15 Oct 1836, conjecture is, to James Trewartha BRAY, bro to Billy BRAY. (This is best guess, based on evidence.) James Harvey BRAY, my g-grandfather, married an Elizabeth Jane WILLIAMS, born 2 Mar 1851, in Elizabeth, Illinois to Elizabeth BRAY WILLIAMS, daughter of John BRAY, bro to Billy BRAY and Elizabeth HAYS of Camborne, Cornwall. So the story I now have is that James Harvey BRAY and Elizabeth Jane WILLIAMS were cousins and he family opposed the marriage for that reason. Or at least, that is one of the reasons they opposed the marriage. Anybody out there with any connections. I will hopefully return in a couple of weeks with more definite details. 1. [BRAY-L] BRADY, Marie 1822 Wotton, Quebec, Canada
    2. Dick & Barbara Lemieux
    3. Hello Brady Researchers. I'm rather new to this, so if I make some procedural blunder, please be patient with me. I am looking for information on Marie BRADY, my great great grandmother. This is what I know about her, so far: She was the daughter of Patrice (Patrick) BRADY and Elizabeth TARDY (or FARDY). Marie had at least one brother and one sister. She was born in 1822. I don't yet know where, but I speculate it was either Ireland or Canada. She married a French Canadian, Louis LEMIRE, in Wotton, Quebec, on October 11, 1842, when she was about 20. She died on 5/31/1903. Her brother Patrick was married to Odile PELLETIER, a French Canadian woman, also in Wotton, on 7/3/1849. According to his marriage record, he was less than 21 years old and he was an orphan at the time. Thus, Patrick Sr. and Elizabeth both died before 7/3/1849 and Patrick Jr. was born after 7/3/1828. Her sister, Heloise, married Francois GREGOIRE on 10/19/1868 in Wotton. She died in Wotton on 3/14/1926. Assuming that the parents were about 21 when Marie (as far as I know, their oldest child) was born, the parents were probably born around or before 1801. I speculate that Patrice and Elizabeth were part of the Irish immigration of 1832. This was also the year that a cholera epidemic hit Quebec (and the rest of Canada). I further speculate that Patrice and Elizabeth died in that epidemic and that their orphaned children were raised by french Canadians. Another possibility is that the children were sent to Canada after they had been orphaned in Ireland. Nevertheless, it is almost certain that the parents were born and raised in Ireland and they were probably married there as well. If you could give me any information on Patrice/Patrick BRADY and Elizabeth TARDY/FARDY (and their origins and ancestors and children), I would be very grateful. Thank you very much, in advance, for your time and consideration. Dick Lemieux [email protected] Concord, NH USA

In the 1850's Mary moved with "Berry" and her children to Rusk County, TX. Their chidren were W. D., Sarah J., and Thomas J. I believe that Mary is the daughter of James B.and Mary Caroline (HEATH) BRADY of Butts County, GA but have not been able to prove it. Any help is greatly appreciated. I will gladly share any info I have. Ike Porter 18802 Heron Lane Tomball, TX 77375

    1. [BRAY-L] BRAY, James, John and Ann-1789-Philadelphia, PA./Monmouth Co., NJ.
    2. This possibly should have been listed under books, but since these names were given, we'll go with them. I just discovered in our library an interesting two volume set called EDWARDS' MATERIALS, which is Rev. Morgan Edwards' notes on the early history of baptists(and I use the uncapitaized form because it deals with all early believers in emersion who were off-shoots of the Anglican Church in America.) The first volume deals with Pennsylvania, then the second volume progresses to MD, VA, NC, SC, and GA. Interesting reading for lots of surnames among the members, but of note to us was a member named Ann BRAY among the Philadelphians, and reference to a "meetinghouse called BRAY'S about 6 miles from Middletown, in Monmouth Co., about 79 miles ENE from Philadelphia".(If you check a map, this is present-day New Jersey.) It was built in 1705 on ground given by John BRAY,---Obediah HOLMES and Jonothan HOLMES. In 1711 John BRAY preached there, although he was not ordained. In 1748, John and James BRAY helped organize a church at Kingwood, which had originally been know as Bethlehem, in Hunterdon Co., about 43 miles N by E from Philadelphia.(Also NJ.) I thought it was interesting, hope it is of use. Nancy Bray Cooper Corpus Christi, TX. [email protected]
