Is anyone familiar with the names..Harlow and Mary Jane Taylor? They were in Allamakee County Iowa around 1900. Lost track of them after that. Mary Jane was a BRAY ( daughter of John and Mary Logan Bray) and she and Harlow married in Nebraska. Thanks Cindy Bray Lovell [email protected]
Hello, my name is Debbie Parsons. I recently had my hard disk crash and lost everything I had on it. I had some info backed up, but not all. I really learned my lesson on that one. Would anyone who has contacted me before please recontact me so I can put them back into my address and email file? I'm really sorry to everyone. I am fairly new to computers and genealogy and I guess some things you just have to learn the hard way. I am especially looking for Ann from Houston, Texas who did me a great favor and did some lookups for me on my Rhames and Capps line. I recieved your package, but lost your email address. Please contact me again. Also I'm looking for Ray Griffith who is researching Chestnuts. Please contact me. Also looking for Leo Vereen, please email me again. Thank you all so much and I'm really sorry about all of this mess. Debbie [email protected] Researching: Anderson, Bray, Capps, Chestnut, Eurzar (Enzar), Fowler, Gargano, Houseman, King, Newton, Rhames, Royals, Tyler, Vereen, Vroome.

Hi- I am new to the Bray list. I have been searching to further my line of my ggrandmother. Here is what I can prove: Lura Anne Bray b 17 May 1864 GA d 29 Feb 1920 Hot Springs AR m. Harrison Riley Massey (Her siblings are rumored to be Molly, "Bank", & Tildie) Children are:Luther, Rosa L, Thomas, Annie, Mattie Eleanor, Benjamin, Fred, Bertia, Mollie I have the info on the above children and can follow HR Massey's line back. Can anyone help to further my search? Thank you. JGreer
Pat, I am also researching the Bray line. I picked up the following portions of your e-mail to Nancy from the rootsweb and thought I would make a couple of comments. > Jershua was the daughter of Peter BRAY Sarah ATHERTON b. ca. 1770 > Peter b. ca. 1767, md. 17 Feb 1790, Nelson, KY. He d. 23 Oct 1838, > Ross, OH I have a copy of the marriage bond between Peter Bray and Sarah Atherton. The Bond is dated 17 Feb 1790 and signed by Peter and Moses Atherton, which I assume is Sarah's brother. There is an affidavit signed by Sarah's father, Aaron Atherton, giving consent to the marriage. The marriage itself took place on the 23 Feb 1790. The ceremony was performed by a B. Clifton. The marriage Bond says Commonwealth of Virginia while the marriage is recorded in the records of Nelson Co. KY. However, KY did not become a state until 1795 and at this time was part of the C of V. > Peter BRAY was the son of Henry BRAY b. ca. 1738, Washington, MD d. 2 > Mar 1792 in Nelson, KY. Henry was md. before 1753 to Catheryn b. ca. > 1831, d. after 1800 in Nelson, KY What I am really looking for is some further info on Henry Bray and Catherine. I believe he was born before 1738 else he would have been only 15 when married ca 1753. I have a copy of Henry's will which was signed 2 Mar 1798 and probated on 9 Jul 1799. So he probably died in June or July of 1799. Do you have any info prior to Henry and Catherine? Or even Catherine's maiden name? I am a descendant of Henry Bray through his son Abraham but I have a good deal of info down some of his other children as well. Are you a descendant of Henry? > Do you need any further ancestors on the Athertons? I have a copy of a > DAR lineage with the above and others. The Ancestor was Henry Bray of > Washington Co, MD who was a Patriot. The applicant is Georgia Ann Evans > Halter. Do you have further info on the Athertons which you would like to share? I know Aaron was Sarah's father but I don't know her mother. Is this Georgia Ann still alive and would it be possible to get the info from her DAR lineage? > > Do you have the KY land grants for these and other Brays? I have a list, > which may not be complete. I have a family group sheet for Henry Bray > and Cathryn. I have a family group sheet on Henry and Catherine as well. Perhaps we could compare notes. I look forward to hearing from you and I would be more than happy to share any info I might have with you. Bob Brey
Squire BRAY, born ca. 1836 in AL was living in the household of John MARSHALL, age 36, on the 1850 census of Williamson Co., IL. John MARSHALL's wife was known to be Nancy BRAY. She was also age 36, born in KY. Besides the 8 Marshall children, there was also a 50 year old Elizabeth BRAY in the household who was also born in KY. Could Elizabeth have been Nancy's mother? Or, perhaps she was an unmarried sister? But who was the 14 year old Squire BRAY? I have been told of other instances of the given name Squire in the BRAY family. Were they all in the same branch of the family? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Emma Gene Gentry -- Emma Gene (Seale) Gentry {[email protected]} Austin, Texas
A couple of weeks ago, I remember someone mentioning a Squire Bray. I just ran accross a fgs that include a Squire Phillip Bray. This is my line so if it fits, we can exchange quite a bit of data. In reference to the John from the mortality schedule that died in Victoria Co.: you might not be aware that there was an entire company of KY Union forces that was mustered out at Victoria TX. You can get the information in the REPORT TO THE ADJUTANT GENERAL, available in most libraries that have Civil War info. I forget the date they were mustered out, but if John died in 1860, there is a *posibility* that he had just arrived with his company. Just a thought. Nancy
Greetings to the Bray group. I am new to both this list and tracking the BRAY line. I'm looking for a lead on Sarah Ann Bray who married John W. Funkhauser on 6 Nov 1853 in Dearborn Co., IN. Aside from information that she died before 1867, probably in IA, that is all I have. She is my gggrandmother, but is pretty elusive. Any information or leads would be appreciated. I own 2 books of Mortality Schedules of Texas (1850 and 1860) by Frances Woods. In the 1850 book there is one Bray: Sarah 3-yr 0ld female; died in Cooke Co.in March of unknown cause after being ill for 15 days. She was born in TX In the 1860 book there are 2 Bray listings: Mr. Bray 20-yr old male; born in Ireland; died in Galveston Co. in Nov. of yellow fever after a 3-day illness John Bray, age 47, born NC; died in Victoria Co. in Apr. of consumption which he had had for 70 days. He was a mechanic. I hope this will help someone fill in some gaps. Emma Gene (Seale) Gentry {[email protected]} Austin, Texas

Pat and other BRAY Pals, Thank you for your reply. I do have both of Mrs. Reese's books,THE BRAYS OF FISHER RIVER, and have found them very helpful. Actually, I should have been more specific, I guess, in my post. I meant I was seeking others searching that line. What I have proof of: My grandfather was James Edward("Ed") BRAY, b. July 31, 1879 in Barbourville, Knox Co., KY, s/o Bryant BRAY and Martha Jane HOWERTON. (This from his death certificate, d. Feb. 2, 1921, construction cave-in in Devol, Cotton Co., OK.) Bryant BRAY was 23 when he married Martha Jane HOWERTON,17,from TN, April 7, 1876 in Barbourville, Knox Co., KY. "at James HOWERTON"s, according to wedding application dated 5 April, 1876. I believe: from census records, Reese's data, and notes I have received from others: This Bryant was the son of aforementioned James BRAY,who married Mary "Winny" GOLDEN, d/o Stephen GOLDEN and James was the s/o the "Old" Bryant BRAY from Surry Co., NC. who was also married to another Martha, called "Patsy". One group sheet I have from an "older" researcher(age AND timewise) says Bryant was the son of Peter and Martha(SCOTT)BRAY, Peter, being b. in England ca. 1718. In other words: Peter+MarthaSCOTT>Bryant+Martha?>James and Winney GOLDEN>Bryant+Martha HOWERTON>James "Ed"+ Sofronie STEVENSON. Another group sheet shows James(the elder)b.1826 in Hancock Co., TN., marriage 14 June 1849 in Knox Co., KY, and d. 14 Sept. 1863 Jessimine Co. KY buried in Camp Nelson, KY. Lived in Knox, Pulaski, and Whitley Co.s ,KY. This information was compiled by Carlyn Bray MILLS, whose greatgrandfather was James' and Winney's son, John R.(A.) BRAY,(Bryant the second's brother)who married Mary C. BAYS 17 Oct.1881. It was from 1996 and was passed on to me last year, with mail to her address in Ludlow, KY being returned, and her trail lost. Would very much like to locate her, if anyone has a connection or information, as well as confirmation or corrections. I also have some other land, tax, military records I'd like to share and compare with others. Are there others working this line?(further down?) With all this info and the proximity of all of the various ones in the Cumberland/Appalachia area, I haven't connected with any *Family* on this line. Who did "Old Bryant" marry? (Patsy who?) Thanks for all your help. Nancy
