My father was born in 1904, but by 1910 my grandmother (Lura Belle Waters) was married again (to J C Bratton) and had another child. I just ran across a Rufus R. McCarter in the 1910 Census for Headrick, Jackson Co., OK. His wife was named Mary, and this was his 2nd marriage. His place of birth is listed as SC, but I have learned that this information is not always accurate or even consistent. It looks like he was 43. My grandmother's family was living in Grayson Co. TX in 1900 and Oklahoma City in 1910, and my father was born in Grayson Co. TX. I wondered if there was a possibility that you might know something about this man's history - like maybe the name of his first wife, or where he lived before. My father died when I was 5 months old, and my mother, older brother, and older sister are all dead. I'm the only one around with the name McCarter.
