John B., son of William and Lucretia, settled in Carlisle. Here's some of the connection's documentation: File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Jo (Bratton) Ott esgreenus@msn.com August 8, 2005, 2:23 pm Cumberland Co. Historical Society's Hamilton Library's Newspaper Microfilm Collection John Beatty Bratton of Carlisle, born in Mifflintown, Juniata Co. in 1817, the son of William and Lucretia (Gallaher) Bratton. Additional Comments: John was the former owner, publisher and editor of the Carlisle American Volunteer newspaper which he purchased with Jerome Boyer who left a year later. John was the owner, editor and publisher of other Carlisle and Harrisburg, PA area publications. He was a municipal office holder in Carlisle, including a member of the city council, the school board and served as its president for at least one term. He was appointed Postmaster of Carlisle by President Pierce. John was solidly involved in Cumberland County politics having run unsuccessfully for the U. S. Congress and the U. S. Senate and was well known for his often abrasive and firey editorials about his opponents and other political happenings in the area. He was married to Mary Ellen Boyer. My note: Mary Elllen's last name was Boyd, not Boyer. From additional obits, John B. also had a brother named Robert P and a sister named Lucretia who married William Curren. I believe there were six or seven children born to Lucretia and William altogether. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
