I have been doing a great deal of research on my Bratton family and am looking for a match for my William Sr. I have made a timeline of sorts from the genealogy I have collected. Can anyone give me any matches or clues as to what to do next. Time Line for William Brattain Sr. 1780-1790- Birth of William Brattain Sr. in North Carolina abt 1810- Marriage - possibly her maiden name might be Lemmons. 1810- in Indiana- Birth of son William Brattain Jr. 1815- in Wayne Co., Indiana- Birth of son Lemmons Brattain 1816- moved from Indiana to Lake Peoria, Peoria, Illinois 1836- jury member in Farmington, Van Buren, Iowa 1840- appears on the 1840 US Census in Van Buren County, Iowa 1847- does not appear on 1847 Van Buren Co, Iowa census (if born in 1780 he would be 67 years old in 1847 and 57 if born in 1790) Thanks for any help. James Curry Bratton was named after his father and his mother's name.(Curry) My father is still living and I would love to be able to find out about his Grandfather for him? My father had 4 daughters, so the Bratton name ended with us. I don't know why no one in the family asked questions when someone was alive to give some answers. Maybe my great grandfather's death was not a accident?? Who knows, I am just assuming that he died logging??? I was just hoping to find something on the internet, but I guess not. There are so many James, and with no other information, it is hard. Thanks for taking the time to write. Sharon

My great grandfather was James M Bratton born May of 1872, he died 1903..In the Lake Co census of Tn he stated that his parents were both born in Tn??? Where I do not know, I have no information on his birth. I have searched the Family Search with nothing showing for him.. So if you have any information on Bratton's I would be interested. Maybe one of the leads will connect to our family. I know that he married in Lake Co, Tn in 1896 to Gussie Curry, in 1901 he had a daughter Birtrue Bell and my grandfather was born after his death in 1904 in Tiptonville, Tn So I am looking for connecting to a Bratton family somewhere in Tn??? My father was born in 1904, but by 1910 my grandmother (Lura Belle Waters) was married again (to J C Bratton) and had another child. I just ran across a Rufus R. McCarter in the 1910 Census for Headrick, Jackson Co., OK. His wife was named Mary, and this was his 2nd marriage. His place of birth is listed as SC, but I have learned that this information is not always accurate or even consistent. It looks like he was 43. My grandmother's family was living in Grayson Co. TX in 1900 and Oklahoma City in 1910, and my father was born in Grayson Co. TX. I wondered if there was a possibility that you might know something about this man's history - like maybe the name of his first wife, or where he lived before. My father died when I was 5 months old, and my mother, older brother, and older sister are all dead. I'm the only one around with the name McCarter. This is a reply back to a Bratton family in Iowa query. I have information on a William Brattain(1810 to 188) and a Lemmon Bratton/Brattain (1815-1885) that lived in various counties in Iowa such as Van Buren, Henry, Mahaska, Des Moines, Decatur and also in Mercer, Missouri. I believe that these two were brothers. Their father, who I have reason to believe was William Brattain Sr. lived in Wayne Co., Indiana and moved Lake Peoria, IL and then on to Farmington, Van Buren, Iowa. I have tracked down the descendency of these families and am willing to share my information. Betseylee Browning
I'm looking for information on Braton Families. Mainly from Iowa(1858 to 1900). They came from NY(1838-1850). Thank you Anne
Hi Bratton Listers, I will be rewritting " The Brattons Of New England " by Marion Blood Lawrence in the next few years. It will be written in Register form and have a badly needed index. If you are a descendant of this Southwestern Vermont family and you have any additions or corrections to Marion's book please send me your info with your sources. If you are interested in purchasing a copy when I finish, send me your Email address. It will be a computer generated book (Family Tree Maker) and it will be spiral bound. Tony, my email address has not changed since 1998. Only once during a week in 2000 when my domain registration was being changed from one hoster to another was their an issue. sbratton@borderlessworld.com I have only received (2) emails in (5) years from people concerned about the privacy of their information who in both cases I removed their information. I probably have received (50) or so emails from people who wanted to update their personal information by such things as name spellings or for example their mother died. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tony" <arockef@cox.net> To: "Steve Bratton Sr." <hsbratton@charter.net>; <BRATTON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 03, 2003 10:44 AM Subject: Re: [BRATTON] Bratton Clan Web Site Down > Steve: > > Thanks for responding to the Bratton list about this matter. Steve: Thanks for responding to the Bratton list about this matter. In my opinion, it would have been better if you had maintained your database with current information so that we could have corresponded and worked out the problem. I am the person who is referenced to in your email message as "the person who complained about his personal information on the web site provided the very information back in 1998 along with the entire family data base that his information was in". You are absolutely correct in stating that I provided my entire family database. You are also correct in stating that I knew that the information was and would be in the web site. There are some rather important points that you are not mentioning in your message. If you are going to have an online web site, it is important to perform maintenance on it to keep email addresses as current as possible, and respond to issues raised by users/contributors. I tried several times in the past three years to write to you via the email address shown in the website. The email was returned as undelieverable. Attitudes / perceptions about privacy in our country have changed considerably since 1998. Those of us involved in genealogical pursuits are aware that there are many avenues available to us via the internet to find personal information about individuals living in this country. However, the general public is not aware that so much personal information is available. There is great fear among many people regarding identity theft and other perceived horrors from having their personally identifiable information posted on the internet. I received numerous complaints about my genealogical database from people who did not want their birthdates, etc. displayed on the internet. Consequently, I modified my online database so it would not display that information on the internet. I tried writing several times to you with offers to provide a new genealogical file that omitted the personal demographic information for living individuals. When the email to you repeatedly bounced, I had no choice but to write to Gendex to request assistance. It appears that Gendex didn't have success in reaching you to resolve the issue, and subsequently took down the site. I applaude your efforts to make Bratton family genealogy available to so many users. I am sorry that the operator of Gendex felt it was necessary to remove your entire site. When you create your new site, and if you wish to post my family gedcom again, I will gladly submit a revised gedcom file that omits demographic information for living individuals for your use on the site.
