I found back to Willim Jasper Bratton married to Mary Catherine Wall who turned out to be from, none other than NC! His Brattons were in Illinois, Kansas, & some moved to California...Shocked to see this Police officer in CA named Bratton on the news...makes you wonder. I was called for a prescription transfer from York, SC & was promptly asked if I were kin to the Bratton's of York County, SC. I replied I married a Bratton and he told me of Brattonsville, SC. All these years 3 hrs down the road & never heard of it. So we stopped by on our way back from a visit to Illinois in March. It was really neat & we got asked again if we were originals. Havent been able to look for that info they said was at the Library center. Anybody got any clues on a William Jasper Bratton.! ..I think he went by Jasper. I did see those Brattons in TN but I'm just kind of stumped. Thanks! Karen Bratton Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [BRATTON] Robert Bratton, brother of William Bratton of Lewis/Clark Exped...
    2. Robert Bratton, my ancestor, who married ann McFarland Dunlap came to Augusta County, VA 1730's. from PA. Born 1712 Donegal N. Ireland , died 1785 Augusta county, Va. It is said he was council to Mrs Dunlap when her husband died about 1743. They lived at present Goshen, VA in Augusta County, about 35 miles west of Staunton VA on the "Parkersburg Pike", present route 42. The railroad came to Goshen just beforre the war, and was extended after. Bratton moved into the Dunlap homeplace which was just above the railroad on the south side of the village, way up on a steep hill. It later, about 1880 became the Allegheny hotel, a fine resort. Buned about 1930 You can still today see the pathway going from the raolroad to the hotel. Robert Bratton bought lands nearby as well as on the Jackson River, and left to one son an estate on the Jackson. I have no information on his dealings with Ralph Lafferty, but would like them. Robert directed his son John to provide land for the New Lebanon Church, whihc he did in an 1800 deed. The cemetery of the old Meeting House (ca 1750) has been restored, about 2/3 mile north of the present church. That is where Robert and Ann are most certainly buried, but unprovable. My record shows his parents to be Andrew and Andrea Bratton, but again no proof. Does your information about lands on the Jackson River make any reference to a place called Rocks Rest? I thihnk it is the land left to James, the elder son. Daley Craig daleycraig@cs.com

I am looking for information on Robert Bratton who was in August Co. VA in 1769 and in 1770 when he sold land on the Jackson River with my ancestor Ralph Lafferty. I think he was the one married to Ann McFArland. I am wondering what information someone might have on who he was, where he came from, where he lived, and if there could have been some relationship with Ralph Lafferty. Thanks for any help that may be forthcoming. Pat Johnson Dayton,OH
