    3. Hi Teri, My line is Robert Samuel Brashear through his son Samuel Brashear. Here's my line on my web site. http://www.angelfire.com/oh/myfamilygenes/brashears.html A website with your line would be great. Isn't it amazing how many different spellings the name took on over the years. My grandma's family always added an "s" to the end. But the generations before that, didn't. I always say as long as they call me for supper, it doesn't matter how they spell my name!! Merry Christmas! 2. Norma, Merry Christmas to you too! I can't remember who your BRASHEARS is? I've been doing a bit of record searching on mine (my 2nd great grandparents- Theodore Thomas DIMMETT & Mary Sophia BROSHEARS). I'm finding that all the spellings seem to be the same family. 3. Greetings to you as well! Do you happen to have anything on the Brashears who lived in East Feliciana or East Baton Rouge Parish during the 1800's? My ancestor was Rebecca Brashears who married Wylie Ingram in the early 1800's. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WcF.2ACEB/228.1 Message Board Post: Hi, Peter Brashear (Brashers/Boshers) was a son of Basil Brashear Sr, believed to be a son of Middleton Brashear(s), who was a documented son of Basil Brashear(s) and Anne Belt, of Prince George's Co, MD, Orange/Guilford Co, NC, and Spartanburg Co, SC. This family (what I know of it) appeared in vol 6 of my "A BRASHEARS FAMILY HISTORY", which was published last year. See my website www.charlesbrashear.com for some details. Rebecca (Becky/Bicky/Bicy) Brashers was also a Brashear, as their marriage license indicates, but I do not know who her parents were. And I had only one generation of their children. If you, or anyone has more, please send it to me, so I can include it in the volume of "Additions, Corrections, and Strays." In the meantime, here is part of the chapter on Basil Brashear Sr. 3. BASIL BRASHEARS Sr, b. c1765 V62. 71. Brasil (Basil) Brashears Sr, b. 1760-70 (age 70-80 in 1840, Lawrence Co, TN); my guess is that he was born c1765; m.1. _____; m.2. _____, b. 1780-90 (50-60 in 1840 Lawrence). I believe (cannot prove) that Basil was s/o Middleton Brashears, s/o Basil Brashear(s) and Anne Belt, of Prince George’s Co, MD, Orange/Guilford Co, NC, and Spartanburg Co, SC. This is apparently the Brasil Brashear in the 1790 Heads of Families, Camden Dist, Fairfield Co, SC, p. 21; 1 m. 16+ (himself), 3 m. 0-16, 3 f. incl wife. Five children, all born 1776-1790 makes it likely he was born early 1760's at the latest. Who these five were, I have no idea, and they are all too old to be children of the (? second) wife who is 50-60 (b. c1780-90) and listed in the 1840 census, Lawrence Co, TN; therefore he must have had a first wife who died in the 1790s and he married (second) a girl about the age of his own children. Perhaps there is another generation in here, for the siblings in Lawrence Co, TN, in the 1830's seem to be b. c1805-1820. Of course, very large families, born over 30 years are not impossible; it's just that such large numbers of people usually leave more paper tracks than Basil seems to have. I think this is also him: 1800 Census, Greenville Co, SC: Besshares, Bazle, 20010-10100-00, p.255, l.485 , age 26-45, i.e. b. 1755– 1774. Basil apparently has a wife, 16-26 years old, b. 1774-1794, and two boys and a girl under age 10, all b. 1790-1800. Bisshares, Wm 01101-02001-00, p.255, l.484 (this William Bisshares, age 45+, b. bef 1755, is unidentified, but lives very close to Basil--next door) WESTWARD MIGRATIONS Basil Brashears Sr, b. c1765; John Brashears Sr, b. c1767; Henry Breshears Sr, b. c1769, with some of their nephews, left South Carolina about 1810 and migrated to east- central Tennessee. This was a familiar migration route for men moving west at the time new land was “opening” for settlement, and they encountered some of their distant relatives in Tennessee. Near the middle of the 1810-1820 decade, at least two of the South Carolina Breshears colony got land grants in Warren Co, TN— Berry, and Henry Sr. They are alongside Jesse Brashears, of Lee Co, VA, s/o Philip Brashears, d. 1798, Henry Co, VA, and several of his sons. WARREN CO, TN, LAND GRANTS: 7 Aug 1811: Tennessee Land Grant #3300, 23 acres, to Jesse Brasher (Book E, p.131). Jesse Brashear was from Lee Co, VA. He was a son of Philip Brashears of Henry Co, VA. Jesse migrated to central TN about 1810 and died there some time between 1811 and 1820. His widow, Elizabeth, received his unfinished land grants. (See Vol. 2, Robert C. Brashear, of NC, and Some Descendants in TN, KY, TX, etc.) 4 Feb 1815: Tennessee Land Grant, 2 acres, to Littleberry Brashears. (HSB, p.29; not now listed in card index in Nashville). The same as Berry Brashears, b. 1790, SC. 7 Feb 1815: Tennessee Land Grant #11977, 40 acres, to Henry Brashears. (HSB, p. 29, and Book O, p.295 and Book 8, p.132). This is Henry Breshears Sr, b. c1769, SC, believed to be s/o Middleton Brashears. 13 May 1817: Tennessee Land Grant #10081, 10 acres, to Jesse Brashear (Book Q, p.178 and Book 8, p.618) 30 Aug 1828: Tennesse Land Grant #968, 20 acres, to William Brashears (Book B, p.394). This is William Breshears, s/o Melvry Brashears, a s/o Jesse Brashear, of Lee Co, VA. 10 March 1828: Tennessee Land Grant #305, 10 acres to Milnery Brashear (Book A, p.206-7) "Milnery" is a copyist’s misreading of Melvry. 11 March 1828: Tennessee Land Grant #360, 16 acres to Milnery Brashear (Book A, p.244) Judging from the low numbers on these 1828 grants, I'd say the land was entered very early and only registered very late. 12 March 1828: Tennessee Land Grant #413, 34 acres to Valdon Brashear (Book A, p.279) Valdon was a son of Jesse Brashears of Lee Co, VA. 9 Feb 1838: Tennessee Land Grant #5836, 25 acres to Elizabeth Brashear (Book J p.259). Widow of Jesse Brashears of Lee Co, VA. Henry Breshears Sr, b. 1769, and at least some of his nephews did not stay long in Warren Co, but moved on to Lawrence Co, TN, about 1817. However, many of the Brashears families that had migrated from South Carolina lived in White Co, TN, in 1820. This included Basil, Sr, b. 1765, John, Sr, b. 1767, Thomas, b. c1771-2, and at least two of their nephews. 1820 Census of White County, TN (all p.369): (Identified as "my family" by Anna Locke, descendant of Berry Boshears of AR.) Surnames: Watford, Baxter, Broom, Williams Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/WcF.2ACEB/226 Message Board Post: This might help someone--not related and no other information. The Davis News Davis, Murray County, Oklahoma Thursday, February 7, 1924 Vol. XXX, Number 19 Death of W. J. BRASHEARS W. J. BRASHEARS passed away at his home six miles northwest of Davis last Saturday, Feb. 2, 1924 at 9:30 a.m. after a long lingering illness. He had the flu in 1918 and the disease settled in his lungs and he was never able to overcome it. Mr. Brashears was one of our most best and most successful farmers. He was born at West Point, Tennessee April 25, 1873, and would have been 51 years of age next April. At the age of 15, he moved to this country and spent the remainder of his life here. He lived on his home place past 18 years. He was twice married--first to MISS KATHERINE WILLIAMS, and of their five children, two sons and two daughters survive: DOUGLAS V. BRASHEARS of this community and EARL BRASHEARS of Shawnee, MRS. BANNER BROOM and MISS MAY BRASHEARS. His second marriage was to MISS VICTORIA BROOM, and of their two children, one survives, MISS ORA BRASHEARS. A sister, Mrs. BANNER BAXTER, lives at Lexington and a brother, LONZO BRASHEARS, lives at Old McGee. A striking co-incidence is that his brother’s 15 year old son died last Saturday morning. The deceased was a good citizen, well liked, and had a large circle of friends. He had been a member of the Woodmen of the World about 10 years. Burial was in Green Hill Cemetery at Davis last Sunday at 3:00. Funeral services were conducted by REV. A. E. WATFORD, Methodist pastor

Surnames: BRASHEAR, PRIEST Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/WcF.2ACEB/222 Message Board Post: Few know of Brashear Hollow located in Steubenville, Jefferson County, OH. Here's a rather descriptive image of the area in the late 1800s - abstracted from the 26 Jul 1896 Steubenville, OH Weekly Newspaper: The Good Olde Days – Lyman Priest has started on his “smelling duties” with a vim that is appreciated in this warm weather. He has sized up ‘cow alley’ in the Fifth Ward and found it clean as the cows are in the pasture. He has had a dead horse reburied that was dug up by dogs. The burial place is “Brashear Hollow”; and Lyman tells of a West Market Street teamster who had 13 horses buried in his little yard.
