The story goes that there were brothers who were Brashears that were oulaws, Murdered someone or some such thing and that way back when it happened you would be shunned because you carried the same name as these two brothers so another brother moved away assumed a new name which is Wright supposedly his new brides maiden name. Do any of you have brothers brashears that fit this description? This is at least four generations saying the same story. Any info I would be thankful Roberta

Believe Benjamin may be my maternal great great grandfather. Know there was a Benjamin Brashears and Illichihona w/ a Wm. Brashears who emigrated to "lands west of the Mississippi." The book is Choctaw Emigration Records 1831-1856, Vol. 1, shows several Brachiers going to Fort Towson, Indian Territory. One of the Brachiers is Benjamin (31) and Illichihona (25) with children William (13), Lila (7), Sukey (3) and Anna (1). (NOTE: one date on the page where their names appear is 2-11-32.) Wm married Mary Jane Collins and had several children--one being Leatha Ann Brashears. Leatha married John Henry Rowe and had one child--Mary Ann Rowe. Mary Ann married John Richard Ingram and they had several children--one of which was my father--John Sullivan Ingram. Have just a little information on Benjamin Brashears and know there are multiple Benjamins in the line. Thought your info might help me. Thanks for any help you can provide. I have Brashears in my line--Benjamin Brashears--specifically. Think there are a couple of these fellows floating around! I'm looking for the father of William M. Brashears (jr.?). I show Wm. M. Brashears b. 1819 in Old Choctaw Nation (Mississippi), m 1860? to Mary Jane Collins, d. 19 Mar 1892 in Panama, OK. (Mary Jane and William were the parents of my g-grandmother--Leatha Ann Brashears.) Have just a little on Wm's father--Benjamin Brashears--who is said to have married an Indian woman--Illichihana? One source for the marriage/birth of Wm. is: Choctaw Emigration Records, 1831-1856, Vol. 1; Register of Choctaw Indians, Volume 2 nd--Fort Towson Depot: Shows Benjamin BRACHIERS, Illichihona, William, Lila, Sukey, and Anna (#38-4 3).
