Joseph in turn was the son of Eldridge Geary Branson of Hornitos, Mariposa County, CA. Eldridge was a son of Joseph Branson of Osage County, MO, who came to the Mother Lode country of California at age four in early 1854. Joseph was one of the ten children of John Sevier Branson and Martha Jane Ousley.
