WRIGHT SHELTON DIED AT THE HOME OF HER DAUGHTER, Mrs. John Ferguson, in Iberia, on the 6th day of Sept., 1919. Grandma Shelton was born in McMinn Co., Tennessee on the 15th day of Nov. 1827 where she was married to Thomas S. Shelton. After the birth of their second child they emigrated to Missouri and settled on the Big TavernCreek. Thomas S. Shelton died at the Old McCarty Hotel in Tuscumbia on the 8th day of Jan., 1859. He was on his way to the land office at Warsaw to enter some land which was entered after the war by his son-in-law, John Ferguson. The children born to them were as follows: Elvira Jane Comstock, born in Tenn., now deceased; Dorcas C. Ferguson born in Tenn., with whom she lived for many years and whose home she died,; Marth A. Burgess, born in Mo., now living at Mounds, (kla.; John M. Shelton born in Mo., living in Pulaski County; Josephone A. Shelton, now deceased; William R. Shelton, living in Texas County; Lucy M. Davison, lving at Pilot Point, Texas; Charles T. Shelton, of St. Louis, and Edmond S. Shelton, deceased. Grandma Shelton has one living sister, Louisa Griffen, who was at the funeral. Her brother, William R. Wright and half brother, Charles D. Martin, have long since gone to rest. Grandma has been a mamber of the Christian Church for many years. Before her death she requested that Rev. Miller of the M. E. church, say a few words at her burial, which was done. She was laid to rest in the Madden Cemetery. Rev Miller feelingly spoke of the sincere and faithful christian virtue of the deceased. A large number of people from Iberia attended the funeral. God in his infinite wisdom has called another spirit home. Death in life to those who serve the Lord. Yet, now solemn is death. Rec: From Ralph Duncan 3rd Nov. 1990 Trip to Mo. with R. E. & Jo Shelton, Jay Fisher & Bonnie Snidle???, and Dolores Fisher." I would be interested in exchanging/verifying information with my cousins. Karen Cowan Thomas (I remarried--I was Karen Cromie).
