Folks, On Ancestry.com (and in our own files) we have some confusion regarding the wife/wives of John Sevier BRANSON Sr. b. 1826 TN. d. 1905 CA. Margaret Read has sent a transcribed copy of his will and it appears he was m. to Martha Jane OWSLEY/OUSLEY/HOUSELY from 1846 until his death and they had 10 children. She d. 1908. A few sources attribute another wife to this John, a Harriett SLATER or Harriett WEST, but when would he have been married to her? Supposedly she was b. 1817 and d. abt. 1900 so if he was married to her it would have been before Martha and would have been a divorce. We also show her as married Reuben BRANSON (brother of John Sevier Sr. ) b. 1813 and married abt. 1868. This seems more likely however we have the same problem as John. We show Reuben m. to a Sarah CRISMON in 1837. Sarah d. abt. 1900 (although her last child was b. 1858). Supposedly Reuben and Harriet had 3 children between 1869 and 1871 so it's possible Sarah died before 1868 and Reuben remarried Harriett. Can any of you shed some light on this? -- Yvonne Bowers (Looking for Liner BRANSON b. 1790 KY) BRANSON Mailing List BRANSON Most Wanted http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/branson.html Thomas L.
