He was born May 10, 1928, in Pueblo, CO, to Claude Albert and Olive M. (Branson) Sewell. He married Shirley M. West on Aug. 20, 1949. They bought their farm in Custer County in 1949, working it for the last 54 years. During that time, he also worked for 21 years at the Southern Colorado Power Company as a boiler operator, eight years for Cañon City High School as a janitor and at the Department of Corrections for 10 years. Mr. Sewell is survived by his wife of 54 years, five children; Doris Estes, Deloris Kittelson, Virginia Trujillo, Kathy Reis; 10 grandchildren, Amy Alvarez, Brandon Watson, Sheila Smith, Robert Kittelson, Cheri Trujillo, Tami Micchula, Jennifer Wolzen, Curtis Sewell, Adam Reis and Brian Reis; 11 great-grandchildren and a brother, Claude Sewell. He was preceded in death by four sisters, three brothers and a granddaughter. Arrangements were handled through Holt Family Funeral Home.
