He was born May 1, 1921 in Osage County to Mark and Sophia Branson Monroe. He married Imogene "Gene" Moseley in Jefferson City on December 11, 1944. She survives at the home. He attended Pointer's Creek School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had been employed by the Missouri State Highway Department and Tweedies Shoe Factory. He was an operating engineer with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 513 for more than 45 years, retiring in 1981 to continue his lifelong pursuit of farming. He was a past master and 50 year member of the Linn Masonic Lodge No. 326 A.F.& A.M.; past patron of the Order of Eastern Star; member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Linn and a charter member of the Pointer's Creek Cemetery Association. Survivors include: his wife; two daughters, Judy Schaefer and husband Dan; and Marchia Monroe all of Jefferson City; two sons, Jerry Monroe and wife Gail of Jefferson City; and Keith Monroe and wife Sharon of Linn; two sisters, Mabel Johnson of Jefferson City and Lorraine Whorrell of Sedalia; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Anglee Monroe; a brother, Reed Monroe; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Monroe and Elsie Callis. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 18th at the Morton Chapel with Rev. Tony Townley officiating. Interment with military honors was in the RLDS Cemetery in Linn.
