    1. [BRANSON-L] Valentine Branson of Va, Tn and Mo

    3. It's been a while since I posted about the sweetheart guy and maybe there are new members lurking. I just got through typing this up for someone this morning and thought I would share. My ancient was Valentine Branson. There are at least 5 Valentines and much mis-information out there. I'd like to contribute what I have found on my Valentine. My Valentine was the son of Jarred Branson (many spellings of Jared, Gerrard, etc). Valentine was born in 1785. Jarred owned land in 1782 in Burk's Fork Waters in what was Montgomery and Washington Counties. In 1786 and 1796 there were transactions in Montgomery Co. It gets confusing as the counties split, changed names, and even became different states...parts of Virginia becoming the new Tennessee for example. Sometimes his birth is recorded as Virginia and sometimes as Tennessee. Jarred also has transactions listed in Patrick Co in 1798, Johnson Creek in 1800 and Lovings Creek in 1809. He is listed in the 1810 Patrick Co census with his sons: Thomas, John Jefferson, Gerrard Jr, Valentine and Andrew. Valentine appears in the tax list of Bldesoe co, Tn of 1815 along with his brothers Andrew, John and Thomas. Bledsoe became a county in 1807 and Valentine married Susannah East in Patrick Co, Va records on 5/7/1807. I only know of one child from this union: Irene was born in Nashville, Tenn in Davidson County which was at one time North Carolina. Sarah Smith was born in Kentucky in 1807. She married a John Richmond who died in 1829. Sarah along with her Richmond children who were born in Whitley County, Ky went to Osage County in 1830. Valentine moved in 1845 to Section 19 of Osage County. He married the widow Richmond in Osage in 1831 and together they had: Andrew, Jemima, Julie Ann, David, Joseph, Hiram, Elijah, and my Gr-gr-grandfather Isaac. I have no information that Valentine ever lived in Gasconade and please note from the above that he did NOT marry Sealy/Cely Beck in Gasconade in 1832 as he was married to Sarah at the time. This Valentine-Beck marriage therefore occured with one of the other 4 Valentines. Sharon
