I have traced the family back to a John Branson as follows: JOHN BRANSON was born Abt. 1807 in Wards Gap, Carroll Co., VA. He married NANCY "SALLIE" SURRATT Abt. 1827. She was born in ? Stokes Co., NC. NOTE: John Branson was listed on the 1860 & 1870 Carroll Co VA Census listing. The family is also listed on the 1850 Patrick Co VA Census. Most of my information has come from the Carroll County Heritage book and I have been looking at microfilm of Carroll Co births/deaths/marriages for documentation.
