    1. [BRANSON-L] LISTMOM: HOLIDAY ATTACHMENTS
    2. Yvonne
    3. Folks, PLEASE do NOT send holiday greetings in the form of attachments to the lists. First, not everyone on the list can use them - for instance, Mac users can't open .exe files unless they have special software. Second, the listserv will reject them anyway and they will error back to me. Third, when it errors back to me, it jams up my computer trying to download. One popular one right now is tree.exe, another is xmaslight.exe. Again, your warm wishes are appreciated but do NOT send attachments or programs to the list. Thanks. 2. Hi, I wrote to the gentleman who you thought had something on the BRANSON family back to the 1400's, his FIRST name is BRANSON, his last is REYNOLDS, and he really does not know anything except hear say. A very nice gentleman though. Gladys

    1. [BRANSON-L] Branson Reynolds
    2. Hello, I just wanted to tell all the Branson researchers that there is a gentleman from Colorado named Branson Reynolds. He says he got his first name from a greatgrandfather whose first name was also Branson. He also mentioned that the Branson name had been traced to the 1400s in England. I told him of the Branson geneology pool on-line, so I thought I would mention this to all of you who may want to write him. He is quite interested in the geneology arena and maybe if some of you wrote to him he might join our group. His address is branson@simwell.com He also has some web pages on his business which I think he is a professional photographer/artist and a camping guide. So anyway, you people might want to make contact with this rather interesting fellow. K.K.Branson

    1. [BRANSON-L] LISTMOM: *PLEASE* READ & SAVE!
    2. Yvonne
    3. TIME FOR A LIST COMMAND UPDATE! Please READ carefully and SAVE. If you are planning to take a holiday vacation, don't forget to unsubscribe! PLEASE write to ME <yvonne@sonic.net>, not the WHOLE list if you are having an email or ISP problem. It creates unnecessary list traffic and I can react much quicker to a personal email than to see your problem buried in list traffic. GENERAL NOTES: NO-NOs: *DO NOT SEND ATTACHMENTS TO THE LIST!!!!!* *DO NOT POST VIRUS NOTICES TO THE LIST!!!!!* *DO NOT POST MISSING/SICK CHILDREN NOTICES (REQUESTING POSTCARDS, ETC.) TO THE LIST!!!!!* OTHER NOTES: If you write to me <yvonne@sonic.net>, please specify which list you are on. Remember: "full mailboxes get bounced!" If you go on vacation, PLEASE unsubscribe. The <listname>-L-request@rootsweb.com command addresses are servers (NOT people)! The replies you get (like "I did not remove you, I couldn't find your name on the list") are auto responses. The ONLY time you get a real person when you use the command address (and it's ME) is if your command errors. The servers consider mail and digest separate COMMAND addresses. Depending on which "type" of list you are on, your command address will either be: <listname>-L-request @rootsweb.com OR <listname>-D-request@rootsweb.com. Please use the correct one. TO SUBSCRIBE OR UNSUBSCRIBE: SUBSCRIBE:: Send message to <listname>-L-request@rootsweb.com with nothing but the word SUBSCRIBE in the body text. Use <listname>-D-request@rootsweb.com if you are subscribing to the digest version. (SUBSTITUTE THE CORRECT LISTNAME FOR <LISTNAME>) UNSUBSCRIBE: Send message to <listname>-L-request@rootsweb.com with nothing but the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the body text. Use <listname>-D-request@rootsweb.com if you are unsubscribing from the digest version. (SUBSTITUTE THE CORRECT LISTNAME FOR <LISTNAME>) "NOMAIL": Rootsweb does NOT have a "NOMAIL" function. If you will be away, you must UNSUBSCRIBE from the list and (RE)SUBSCRIBE when you return. If you don't, 2 things may happen: 1) You will accumulate a ton of mail and 2) your ISP may start bouncing mail if you max out and the Rootsweb smartlist will automatically UNSUBSCRIBE you after 4 bounces (or 8 on NORCAL & CORNISH). NOTE: RESUB, RESUBSCRIBE AND UNSUB ARE NOT COMMANDS. Use SUBSCRIBE OR UNSUBSCRIBE. DIGEST/REGULAR MAIL Digest is available on all the lists. On slower lists, digest means no messages for a couple of days. Regardless of whether you are on digest or not, ALL messages are posted to <listname>-L@rootsweb.com. (SUBSTITUTE THE CORRECT LISTNAME FOR <LISTNAME>) To set digest, send a message to <listname>-D-request@rootsweb.com with NOTHING but SUBSCRIBE in the body text. After you start receiving digest, UNSUBSCRIBE from regular mail by sending a message to <listname>-L-request@rootsweb.com with UNSUBSCRIBE in the body text. If you don't do this, you will receive double messages. (SUBSTITUTE THE CORRECT LISTNAME FOR <LISTNAME>) If you find you don't like digest, just reverse the process: UNSUBSCRIBE from <listname>-D and RESUB (use SUBSCRIBE) to <listname>-L (see instructions above).. Please note: some users don't recommend digest for AOL users because AOL's mail system often truncates, drops or detaches and re attaches as .mim files the digests. Good luck. CHANGING EMAIL ADDRESSES: If you are changing your email address, you must UNSUBSCRIBE from your OLD address, and RESUB (use SUBSCRIBE) from your NEW (see instructions above). ARCHIVES: Searchable list archives are available at http://newsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl If you want to retrieve archived digests by email, please see http://www.sonic.net/yvonne/listinfo.html for instructions on retrieving archives via email or write me at <yvonne@sonic.net> FOR GENERAL INFORMATION REGARDING ROOTSWEB: http://www.rootsweb.com/ FOR INFORMATION ON HOW TO SUPPORT ROOTSWEB: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html FOR OTHER ROOTSWEB SURNAME, REGIONAL, ETHNIC LISTS & SPECIALTY: http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/ FOR STATE & REGIONAL LISTS (PREVIOUSLY MAISER): http://php.indiana.edu/~stephenl/genealog.htm Yvonne Oliver Bowers, Proud RootsWeb Sponsor: ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Listowner-Genealogy: NORCAL, SOCAL, CORNISH, ELLIOTT, OLIVER,GARRISON,LORANCE, BRANSON,SANDERS , MOFFITT ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

    2. Can someone please pass on more information about the Branson coat of arms - where to locate, any visual sources, etc. Thanks. _______________________________________________________________________________ Subject: [BRANSON-L] question From: /PN=rbranson@juno.com/ou=juno.com/ at INTERNET-PUB Date: 10-11-1998 12:27 PM the motto on the branson coat-of-arms in 1636 is "dum spero spiro" i recently discovered that the South Carolina motto is "dum spero spiro" why is this? is there some connection? it could, of course be coincidence, however, you can come up with thousands of mottos so it seems that there must be some connection to me. why does a state refer to itself in the first person? "while I breathe, I hope" a state does not breathe either. would some kind soul in SC research this out for all of us in general and myself, in particular. these things are of interest to me. another thing that all may find of interest is the fact of the TWO shields for branson. the popular gyronny of eight azure and or (the same blue and gold of sir galahad) and the second one black and white with the squeezed scorpion and another knightly tale (the "black shield of falworth")this latter was a made into a movie. Very similar. i also like the story of the origin of branson being derived from brandson which is the son of Brand which was the olden term for a sword or firebrand and therefore basically meaning "the son of the sword" ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
