    1. [BRANSON-L] War of 1812 Records and Indian ancestors in the William T. Branson family of Sevierville, TN, & Tecumseh, OK
    2. M. L. Branson
    3. Hi, Will someone please share how to obtain War of 1812 pension records with me? I also have recently been told that William Thomas "Bill" Branson, veteran of the Civil War, who moved from TN to Tecumseh, Indian Territory, with his wife, Sarah McMahan, (date of marriage 6/19/1892), prior to OK statehood, had a part Cherokee grandmother. Sarah was the daughter of Wilson "Cud" McMahan, a physician in Sevier County, TN. Cud was married (2nd) to Mary Katherine Caton in Sevier, TN., Sarah's mother. Does anyone know anything about this? William and Sarah are my children's ggrandparents. Thanks, Mary Lou Branson, Ft. Worth

    1. [BRANSON-L] UPDATE ON LDS RECORDS SEARCH
    2. This Should Answer Question About LDS SEARCH Hello Fellow Researchers, I have been bombarded with questions on the Family Search Website and would like to pass on to you the information I received when I spoke to an "Official" Church spokesperson at Family Search. He advised me of the following: The OFFICIAL LDS Church website is LDS.ORG Go to media resources and find News update. The church is posting updates as they come in as to the state of the family search. Within 3 or 4 minutes of the NEWS UPDATE ANNOUNCING the FAMILY SEARCH is online. They will post it THERE! SO Keep checking. Should be a couple of days. It will be a MASSIVE SITE. They are prepared to test this site using anyone who wishes to go to it and use it. THERE WILL BE NO PASSWORD TO ACCESS IT. The rumor about the password was incorrect. When the site was put up it was restricted to a few....about 100 people who designed it and are putting the finishing touches on it, someone there LEAKED, YES LEAKED, (AN EMPLOYEE) and that is why some of you got in. When the masses bombarded the site it crashed cause it was not finished. They have now given each worker an INDIVIDUAL PASSWORD, SOOOOO IF it gets leaked again they will know who did it. It has been postponed being put online a few days because of the crash. There are now about 12 popular stories going around about Family Search. I ASSURE YOU MINE CAME FROM A CHURCH SPOKESMAN. IF you pass information about the site on to others please just send them this message I have sent you. The whole message. Now please remember this. 1. Go to LDS.org 2. Find Media Resources 3. Check News Updates That will inform you when it is going online. Please notify everyone you know who will be interested. I hope this helps you all. You have my permission to pass this note on to any Genealogy Lists you wish. Again, Please pass the whole note not just sections of it or we will have more rumors. Thanks, Karen Gaughan in Pa. 1. [BRANSON-L] Bennet BRANSON
    2. Barry Woods
    3. Dear All, One of my wife's BRANSON ancestors was named Bennet BRANSON, born 1 Mar 1694 in Helmdon, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND and married a Frances YEAST, 21 Jan 1717 at Helmdon. Frequently, unusual christian names like BENNET can survive several generations and can often give clues on otherwise unconnected families - particularly when daughters marry but retain the christian name for their children. So question - does anyone else out there have a BENNET in their BRANSON line?? Regards Barry WOODS

I don't have a BENNET (that I know of) but my great grandfather's name was James GARRETT Branson. Anyone have a GARRETT connection? June Sanders

    1. [BRANSON-L] Lucy Jane BRANSON
    2. Ronda Oberlin
    3. The list has been so quiet I thought I'd somehow gotten unsubscribed. A couple of months ago I got some help from the list on my Lucy Jane Branson (b. 1823 TN). I thought she was the daughter of David BRANSON and Susannah BOLTON. It was decided that she was definitely the granddaughter of Absalom BRANSON and Jemima LORTON, but we never really settled which of Absalom's sons she belonged to. Linda Mains pointed me toward a Branson-Moore cousin who has proof that Lucy Jane--and all of the children I was attributing to David and Susannah are actually the children of Lemuel Branson and Jane Watson. Lemuel is David's brother (Lemuel 1810, Michael 1817, Nancy 1819, John Francis 1821, and Lucy Jane 1823). For the record, there is another Lucy Jane Branson, b. 1837 in Parke Co IN, who was the daughter of Lemuel and Jane's son Lemuel and his wife Elizabeth BRANSON. Thanks to everyone who helped me out--and humored me the first time around. Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    1. [BRANSON-L] Great Search Tip
    2. Hi Gang, I just learned from a very wise person names Ceya some neat tricks in searching and she asked that it be passed on, so here goes. Gladys When searching Bureau of Land Management Once you get your ancestor's (or the one you think is your ancestor) land description, go back to the start and erase all christian names and surnames and have all the blanks empty except the land description. Enter the entire land description in the blanks and then wait...........Surprise! You can see all the neighborhood for that piece of land! When you do a telephone search on the Internet and just put in someone's street name and city and town--don't put in any kind of name, you can see who all the neighbors are that have a "listed" phone. My son has just moved to Duluth, Georgia and I decided to see who lived in his neighborhood--in case I ever needed to call anyone and low and behold, I got the whole neighborhood. Some people aren't listed because they have "unlisted" telephone numbers.

    3. Listers, We are testing an archive that will be a companion to the rootsweb list archives that exist now. Just a heads up - the archives SEARCH ON WORDS IN THE SUBJECT LINE so it's very important to use relevant subject lines at all times. When you compose a message, pay special attention to how much the subject line encapsulates the gist of your message. Thanks! 3. Folks, I'm breaking the rule regarding the posting of virus notices and hoaxes on the list to provide the following important information. Happy99.exe IS a real virus (a worm). It comes to you hitchhiking on an attachment and reattaches itself to your outgoing mail WITHOUT YOUR KNOWING. The worm CANNOT be acquired from any rootsweb lists. Attachments are blocked. However, it can and possibly will come you to in private email as really don't know their sending it.
