    1. [BRANSON-L] LISTMOM: GATEWAY LISTS
    2. Yvonne Oliver Bowers
    3. Listers, Rootsweb have given the mailing lists the ability to "gateway" to the GenConnect boards - ie. when a message is posted to a GenConnect board, the message can also automatically be posted to the corresponding mailing list. I think it's a good thing - it will give us more access to researchers who aren't subbed to the mailing lists however it will add some traffic to the lists (which is probably a good thing, too). Please email me PRIVATELY and let me know if you'd like to see us gateway our list. 3. Folks, Discussions regarding the US Census are popping up on many lists with sometimes lengthy threads. Often, the Census, while important and interesting, is not relevant to the list. For those who are interested in ongoing Census discussion and/or specific questions, there is a new list called CENSUS-CHAT-L. To subscribe, send an email to: CENSUS-CHAT-L-request@rootsweb.com with nothing but the word SUBSCRIBE in the body text. For digest version, send to: CENSUS-CHAT-D-request@rootsweb.com If posting a Census 2000 -related question to one of my lists, please be sure it is relevant to the list itself. Thanks! 1. [BRANSON-L] LISTMOM: VIRUS NOTICE
    2. Yvonne O. Bowers
    3. Folks, I am breaking my (and Rootsweb's) rule about posting virus notices. The reason is because a new strain of virus makes it look like the message was sent from a rootsweb list (or other address). I want to be sure all of you know rootsweb is a safe place to post. Viruses come in attachments and attachments CANNOT be posted to rootsweb lists. Here's how the virus works (courtesy of fellow listowner, W. David Samuelsen): Once infected, the worm is set to reply to EVERY MESSAGE that's in INBOX of the subscriber, meaning if the message you posted as long ago as even a year to a list and still in that INBOX, you get the infected attached message as if it came from the list. (it showed up in one message that was posted over a month earlier to a list). It also morphs to make it look like you were the sender or somebody else instead of the infected subscriber (such as the mailing list name). To date names of attachments that had been reported are: party.exe, b*boy.exe, casper.exe, faster.exe, pirate.exe There is an URL embedded in the message http://stuart.messagemates.com/index.html in large letters. Then there is the attachment (the one I got was pirate.exe). I received this virus from someone on SOCAL-L (although I use a Mac and couldn't open an .exe file anyway) but it's been reported on all lists and I've had notices from several of you. Many of you are infected and are unwittingly perpetuating the virus by opening the attachment. The message here is simple: DO NOT OPEN ATTACHMENTS. Run your virus software. Check our antivirus software mfrs. website for updates. Please do NOT discuss this on the list(s). Email me if you have questions or visit the Symantec web site at http://www.symantec.com. Happy holidays. 1. [BRANSON-L] Dan B. Branson
    2. Michael & Rebecca Crofutt
    3. Does anyone have a Dan B. Branson in their line, or know of a Dan B. Branson? The only thing I know about him is that he worked for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company in 1882. I have two railroad passes that were with my great grandfather's railroad passes which belonged to Dan B. Branson. It shows that he traveled between Edgefield Junction & Henderson, Kentucky. I have yet to find Edgefield Junction on a map, so I'm not sure where it was/is located. If anyone knows who this Dan B. Branson was, I would love to know about him. I've never heard mention of him in my family. Thanks! Rebecca Branson Crofutt

    1. [BRANSON-L] Jack M. Branson
    2. Michael & Rebecca Crofutt
    3. Years ago, my parents and I met up with an elderly gentleman named Jack M. Branson. He was from Freeport, Texas. We were convinced he had to be related due to the fact he would pass for a brother to my own grandfather, Robert Williams Branson. We never made the connection between our lines. I've just found a letter we received from Jack M. Branson dated July 5, 1977 with the following information: "Here is the answers to the questions you ask (as much as I know). 1. My father's name: Lewis Marion Branson Birthdate: September 2, 1879 Birth Place: North Carolina (Do not know the town) Buried: Smithville, Texas - 1938 2. My Grandfather's name: Lewis W. Branson (Do not know what the W. is for) Birth Place: North Carolina Died and Buried: Kinmundy, Illinois 3. My father had five brothers. 4. My Great Great Grandfather came from Norway, but my Great Grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War here in America. I never kept up with my ancestors." Can anyone claim this gentleman into their line? If so, I would love to know about his family line and where he fits in. Thanks! Rebecca Branson Crofutt

    1. [BRANSON-L] Levi Branson, born 1832
    2. M. L. Branson
    3. If one pulls up http://metalab.unc.edu/docsouth/branson/title.html, there is, in color, a picture of the frontispiece and a couple more pages of "First Book of Composition Applying the Principles of Grammar to the Art of Composing: Also, Giving Full Directions for Punctuation; Especially Designed for the Use of Southern Schools By L. Branson, A. M. Raleigh, Branson, Farrar & Co., 1863. It's in "The Southern Homefront, 1861-1865 - Documenting the American South, Academic Affairs Library, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. William "Bill" Branson, who married Sarah McMahan, Sevier County, TN, and died in Brown, OK., we believe, was the son of Levi Branson, a minister. My Levi married Penelope E. Langston (aka Mary Elender Langston) on 14 day of July in either 1867 or 1864 (7 looks like a 4 or vice versa) in Sevier, TN. He was a Civil War veteran. He also died in Pottowatomie County, OK, as did that wife. He then married Emaline Nipper, but preceded her in death. Don't know whether this is "that" Levi or that Levi's father. Can anyone help here? I think it may be that selfsame Levi. Mary Lou Branson

    1. [BRANSON-L] Hute Branson
    2. Branson
    3. Hello, I am wondering if anyone could help me in finding out where a certain Branson came from. Here are some clues. His first name is: Hiram or Huran I always thought it was Hiram but I have a copy of his death certificate and it says Huran. He died in 1945 and he was born in 1860. On his death certificate it says that his wifes name is Martha Branson (maiden name Mckinney). It also says that his mothers name was Betty Carroll. But it does not give his fathers name.I want to find out who his father is. The death certificate says that Huran's birthplace was Osage County , Missouri. He had a son (my grandfather) named Fate (Lafayette). Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Kenneth K. Branson
