Posted on: Branson Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Branson/94 Surname: ------------------------- I know that Branson, Mo. was named for Rueben Branson and he had a brother Valentine but no brother Andrew. He was the storekeeper and postmaster and that was the main reason the town got his name. My dad was his nephew and he once told me that Rueben moved elsewhere a couple of years after the town was named after him. An interesting sidelight is that his brother Galbrith was the Taney County Mo. sheriff and was murdered by the vigilante group, gone bad, known as the ball knobbers. He and his deputy were both killed at a 4th of July celebration.
Hello Listers, John Franklin Branson married Louisa Green on 31 Dec 1869 in Holt Co. MO. Does anyone know who Louisa's parents and siblings were or her birth date and place? Any help greatly appreciated! Mary Klamath Falls, Oregon -- Gary & Mary Williams E-Mail: garmar@kfalls.net canyon7979@hotmail.com
According to the GENTRY-WORTH COUNTY HISTORY - 1882, Sarah (SMITH)RICHMOND came to Missouri with her family in 1830 from KY and married Valentine BRANSON in 1831 in Osage CO, MO, then came to Gentry (later Worth CO, MO) in 1845. This means that Valentine born in 1875 did NOT marry Sealy Beck as often reported. The Valentine that married Sealy in Gasconade must have been the one that married Alpha SHURLS or some unknown/unresearched Valentine.
I have found a historian/author/researcher of Gentry/Worth County off the Carnegie Library page. She has written 4 books already and is about to publish the 5th I believe. She said Bransons appear in 3 of her books. I received the following interesting information from her: Worth County was formed in 1861 from Gentry County Valentine Branson appears in the 1850 Gentry census 65 years old with Sarah age 45 and Isaac aged 14. Valentine died in 1855. The 1860 census lists Isaac, Andrew, Jemima, Julia Ann, David, Joseph, Hiram and Elijah. Sarah SMITH married John Richmond. Her second husband was Valentine BRANSON. Sarah was born in 1805 in Tennessee. Sarah died 1878 and is buried in the Hoblet Cemetery, Denver, Worth county, Mo. I am awaiting information as to the date of marriage between Sarah and Valentine. It's obvious that the AIS Mortality information at ancestry.com was incorrect. I'm curious if anyone knows how Sealy BECK became known as Sealy "Sarah" Beck. Was it perhaps because someone found Valentine in census living with a "Sarah" and assumed it was Sealy instead of wife Sarah Smith? Sharon

Posted on: Branson Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Branson/85 Surname: Branson ------------------------- I think I have info on George Washington Branson. The information I have differs in that I have him listed in Missouri. There might have been a time that they resided in Oregon though. It might be another line in the Branson family. I have found that there are some crossing over and many duplicate names in different generations. The reason that I believe it is the same G.W. Branson is the children. I will email any information I have. Just let me know. Korina Branson

Found in Parish Records of St. Peters Church, Leeds Yorkshire------ Hannah, daughter of Joseph and Betsy BRANSON, Providence Street, Machine Maker. Date 25 January, 1835 >From Mary McLeod who is searching for BRANSON ancestors in Huntingdonshire.
AIS Mortality Schedule: Valentine Branson born 1805 Tennessee, Died 1860 Gentry County, Missouri at 55 years of age lung disease. Occupation: farmer MY theory: It has always disturbed me that Valentine b. 1785 who married Susannah East in 1807 remarried Cely/Sealy Beck in 1832 and started a new family at 50 yrs old. What I believe happened is that there is yet another (there are already 5) separate Valentine born in 1805 who married Ms. Beck. Isaac Branson who married Eliza Emiline Peery stated on at least 2 census' that his father was born in Tennessee and his mother in Kentucky. I believe Ms. Beck was born in Kentucky and the above Valentine to be his father. In 1855, Isaac was married in Gentry (where the above Valentine died). Isaac was a farmer. Acorns don't fall far from trees. I caution anyone working on a "Valentine" Branson line to be careful of information on the net. I have found the date and death place of Woolam, Gasconade listed for 3 different Valentine Bransons. Now, you probably want to know my "guess" for who was the father of this Valentine born 1805....I don't know! My best guess was one of them living in Bledsoe on the 1815 census which only shows head of household. You have 4 choices: Andrew, John, Thomas and Valentine. We already know Andrew had a Valentine of his own in 1810...so that narrows it down to 3. Anyone care to take a guess? :)
