I have traced the family back to a John Branson as follows: JOHN BRANSON was born Abt. 1807 in Wards Gap, Carroll Co., VA. He married NANCY "SALLIE" SURRATT Abt. 1827. She was born in ? Stokes Co., NC. NOTE: John Branson was listed on the 1860 & 1870 Carroll Co VA Census listing. The family is also listed on the 1850 Patrick Co VA Census. Branson born 1827 ..died 1914 Both buried in Manning cemetery in Manning, Iowa. I don't have either of these men in my database but thought this information might help someone out.. anne

I don't know much ~ but here's what I do know: 1)Lewis Green, of the infamous bear mauling, was a surveyor for Daniel Boone. 2)Family lore says that either Stephen Farmer or his father was also a surveyor for Daniel Boone. 3)Lewis Green's great grandson, William Hogan Green, married Stephen Farmer's granddaughter, Elizabeth Farmer 4)Daniel Boone left Kentucky with a group of settlers, circa 1795 for Missouri 5)Stephen Farmer's son, David Farmer, took a group of settler's to Missouri circa 1804 6)Stephen Farmer's great grandson, Lewis C. Farmer, married into the Branson family in Kentucky in 1832....so the Branson family was already here.... 7)It is not a great stretch to think that some of the Green's and Branson's from Missouri were in Kentucky and went with David or with Daniel himself..... ____ William Hogan Green's Civil War pension application states that he had lived in the states of Kentucky, Arkansas and Texas....so it is possible that GREEN's from that area migrated when David went to Missouri, if not before with Daniel himself..... Perhaps it's my "active" imagination, but I think that all these peoples (and/or their families) knew each other in Kentucky and perhaps BEFORE coming to Kentucky.... Daniel Boone was here circa 1769 to 1795....Stephen got his first land grant here in 1794....Kentucky became a State in 1792.... Just my thoughts....do with them as you will... Jerusha Branson was either adopted or taken in by Uriah and Lydia Pease Cheeseman abt 1846 Delaware co Indiana. Uriah Cheeseman's will dated Sept 1857 Delaware co Indiana names children Samuel Cheeseman, William Cheeseman, Alexander Cheeseman, Joseph Cheeseman. Sons John and William Cheeseman, George Cheeseman, Richard Cheeseman, Mary A Cheeseman, Jane Cheeseman and Jerusha BRANSON. Notice there are 2 William Cheeseman named in Uriah's will. I have been told John, William, George, Richard, Mary Ann, Jane and Jerusha are children of John Branson. Does anyone know anything about this Branson family.

    3. John Branson was one of the sons of Isaac Branson and his wife Jane Smith. John married Amelia Pickering circa 1818 in Belmont County, Ohio. John was born in Virginia circa 1795. I cannot find this family in the Quaker records, does anyone know if they left the Quakers and Belmont county? If anyone is looking for John's brother William, I finally tracked him down in Henry County, Indiana. The main problem is the lack of names listed for the 1840 census. I have 14 people living in that home but only have names for 5 of the children. Does anyone have this line of Bransons?? anne

She is said to have had children John Branson, William Branson born 1836, George Branson, Richard Branson, Mary Ann Branson, Jane Branson and Jerusha Branson born 8 March 1844 Delaware co Indiana. Jerusha Branson Cheesman married John Martin 1861 Hamilton co Indiana. The father of these children is said to be John Branson. Lydia Pease Branson was then to have married Uriah Cheeseman son of Joseph H Cheesman and Sarah String. Uriah was born abt 1787 probably Gloucester Co NJ.Uriah and Lydia Cheesman had children Samuel, William, Alexander, Joseph. Uriah and Lydia Cheesman was to have left New Jersey on 26 Aug 1817 heading west. They went 1st to Lebanon, Ohio and later moved to Wayne co Indiana then to Delaware co Indiana. Delaware co Indiana I found will of Uriah Cheesman dated 8 September 1857 which names son Samuel, William Cheesman, Alexander, Joseph Cheesman, sons John and William Cheesman, George Cheesman, Jane Cheesman and Jerusha BRANSON also names wife Lydia Cheesman. Notice 2 William Cheesman are named in Uriah's will. I can't believe Lydia would name 2 sons William. I'm trying to find if Lydia Pease was really 1st married to a John Branson or for some reason did Uriah and Lydia Pease Cheesman adopted or take in Branson children. I appreciate any information on this Branson family.
