Dear Sharon, According to the 1850 Census of Franklin County, IL, 13-year-old John B. Branson has an 11-year- old brother named Jerrod. In the 1860 Census of IL, 23-year-old John Brisko is listed with his parents Leonard and Mary (née Bailey). Nineteen-year-old GARRET Branson, Arithmatic Student, is listed as living with William Crawford and his family, who were some kind of family connection. Leonard was born in MD, Mary Bailey was born in Kentucky. Leonard's mother's maiden name was Mary Ellis. These Bransons originally came from St. Mary's MD. rubyslippers wrote: > Marge...I don't know if you saw my last message about the probate in > Maryland with Garratt! I was just sent a probate record from MARYLAND for a John Green February 5, 1706. According to the inventory, this man is indebted to......GARRATT BRANSON. ok...so what say all you descendants of Jared/Jarred/Jaret/Jarret/Garrott/Garratt...about THIS???
They didn't want to make it too easy for us to find them??? The Bransons are a piece of cake compared to my Dad's side of the family who came over from Bohemia and couldn't decide which last name to use. And the brothers all named their sons the same names and the sons were all about the same age. anne > Listen, don't feel like the "Lone Stranger!" Listen, don't feel like the "Lone Stranger!" I hunted and hunted for my ancestor, William Branson, whom I KNEW (on the basis of info from his marriage license) was the son of John B. Branson. Imagine my puzzled relief to find him on the 1880 Census as little 11-year-old Daniel W. living with Brisco Branson was my own Bill Branson living with his father, (John) B(riscoe) Branson; his mother, Lucinda; his siblings! The age makes him the correct one. WHY, oh why, do they do this???? I have a Jacob Branson for William and Elizabeth Branson but no Jacob for Thomas and Elizabeth Branson.... anne > As you can tell....I'm reading old posts and feeling particularly massochistic so I'm working on the Branson lineage again. As you can tell....I'm reading old posts and feeling particularly massochistic so I'm working on the Branson lineage again. In his will, Thomas Sr names a child "Day Branson". Records around state Day married Christina Anderson. Ergo, Jacob must be Day Branson...unless they were into wife sharing in those days. Sharon
Reading Yvonne's old post...I think I have a proposed answer. After reading the will of Benjamin Borden below, I suggest that the wife of William was Elizabeth BORDEN not Osborn. Now no one has to marry a nephew or have 2 daughters named Elizabeth?? ;) Full Context of Frederick County, Virginia Hopewell Friends History Benjamin Borden was born in 1692, a son of Benjamin Borden and ---- Grover, near Freehold, N. J., and died in Frederick County, Va., in 1743. He married Zeruiah Winter of West New Jersey, and came to Virginia sometime in 1732. He was prominent in the affairs of the county and was appointed to the first bench of justices on the organization of Orange County in 1734, and of Frederick County, when it was set off from Orange in 1743. He with others was the subject of religious persecution by the Orange court in October and November, 1737. His will, dated April 3, 1742, and probated October 9, 1743, in Frederick County, mentions his wife Zeruiah, his sons Benjamin Jr., John, and Joseph, and his daughters Abigail, wife of Jacob Worthington, Hannah, wife of Capt. Edward Rogers, Mercy, wife of William Fearnley, Rebeckah, wife of Thomas Branson, Elizabeth, wife of ---- Branson, and Deborah and Lidy, still single. Witnesses: Thomas Sharp, Lancelot Westcott, Edward O. Borden, Thomas Ha! nkins, and Thomas Rogers Sharon
There was a Roger Branson with an email back in 1997 rbranson@ezin.net then another with a juno address....are either of these still on this list??? Thanks Sharon

This book was written in 1936 and all the info may not be 100% correct and has obvious holes (or missing facts). As we all know there is no substitute for your own research and the obtaining of actual records. Books written by others are just guides to give leads were trails might have otherwise grown cold. All said I just hope that if someone trail has grow stagnate this will help. :) I believe some of the info is not correct. The father of Eli and Levi is not the first Thomas Branson. The father of these men is Thomas Branson son of # 1 Thomas Branson who may have arrived in 1700 or thereabouts. The first Thomas Branson married Elizabeth Day probably in New Jersey. The second Thomas Branson who fathered Eli and Levi married Rebecca Borden. anne
Too all the People who have emailed me concerning my book "Genealogy of the Branson Families in America" written by my husbands Great Uncle in 1936. I have had and overwhelming response and cannot possibly answer all queries so I have began to transcribe this book and should be done with it in about 2 or three week (as the time I have to work on it is limited). I will announce when it is complete via the Branson Mailing list (roots web). I will be happy to send anyone who wants a copy. Also if anyone has web space (maybe the list organizer) I would love to have it published so it will be available for future researchers. Carolina (Cari) Gonzales-Branson
Her is an Entry I have in My book on a Levi Branson. There is a book of the Branson Family in the Congressional Library at Washington D.C., which states that Thomas Branson came from England about 1700. He had 2 sons, Levi and Eli. Levi was born in 1732, lived near Ashboro, North Carolina. His children were Thomas, Joseph, Henry, Eli, Abner, Lydia, Rebecca, and Mary. Henry Married a Miss Cox; Levi married Grace Fruit. Abner and Eli both single. Rebecca Married Thomas Pugh. Mary never married.
