Abner Branson of New Sharon, Iowa wrote this letter to Levi Branson, the gentleman who published the Branson magazine. Abner is also in Abraham Branson's line of descent. anne April 8,1899 Dear Friend, More than a year ago, when I was at west Branch, Iowa where my father , William D. Branson lives and where I lived for almost 40 years, I saw your quarterly magazine of the Branson family, and I am now write sending the connection of our family back as far as Abraham and Catherine Branson. Rees Branson was one of their sons and there were others who lived in Virginia. Jacob was another. Isaac Branson, a half brother(half brother to Rees) came to Iowa about the time my father came in 1853 when I was 12 years old. Isaac Branson had who daughters one married John B. Lee who now lives in Muscatine, Iowa and the other married Samuel Staples, who lives in Barclay Kansas. these daughters have several children and some grandchildren. I can arrange to trace up this branch of the Branson family. My father is almost 85 years old; his father (Rees) died before he was one year old in Virginia and he lived with his grandfather for a time then came to Ohio and worked with his brother Abraham in the woolen manufactory for a time and married and went to Salem, Ohio in 1842 then came to Iowa in 1853 and has been a farmer but has lived in town for about 15 years; now lives with his youngest daughter Ida Hathaway. I have been a nurseryman since 1867. Nearly all my father's family are Orthodox Friends. Respectfully, Abner Branson

Written by David W. Branson to James L. Branson Clearbrook, Frederick county, Virginia December 1, 1897 James L. Branson, Langhorn, Bucks, county,Penn. Dear Cousin: Thy letter of 28 ult.. at hand in due time. I am much obliged for the information as far as it goes. I t makes the connecting link in our families, but I think thy grandfather had several children besides thy father. I saw a daughter of his in 1854 when in Ohio, and I also think thee had several brothers and sisters whom I saw in 1854, when at thy father's house in Indiana (near Richmond). I seem to remember one sister of thine parents particularly, her name was Rebecca, but I fear it will be out of my power to get hold of all the names of the descendants of William and Elizabeth Branson, of Stafford County, VA, who were our great grandparents, but I would like to get back to their parents and grandparents if possible, and come on down to my grandfather, Abraham Branson , oldest son of William and Elizabeth. He was born October 12, 1754. Joined the Friends April 1, 1776. At the same meeting, his mother requested for her minor children, William, Rachel, Isaac, Charity,Martha, Jacob (thy grandfather, Elizabeth and Mary. John,as spoken of in thy letter could not have been born then, as he is not in the minutes made and that time but his death which occurred on March 2, 1815 is recorded in our minutes of Hopewell Monthly meeting as a brother of Abraham. I am able to trace the descendants of Abraham down to the present time but of the others I know but a little; would like to know a great deal more. those of Abraham run at this time up to several hundred. I have not gotten them formulated. Abraham's first wife was Catherine Rees, daughter of Henry and Martha Thomas Rees. They were married at Hopewell, Frederick county, Virginia on October 22, 1779. They had one son Rees Branson who married Ruth Downing, daughter of William and Phebe on March 10, 1802. Their children(Rees and Ruth) were Abraham, Maria(Mariah), Eliza, and William. William is the only one now living. He lives at West Branch, Cedar county, Iowa, is 85 years old.
Actually, in relooking at the census..it would appear that John Jefferson is still alive in 1830...and perhaps widowed himself. And, the only Household that fits John Sevier is John Jefferson's as far as a male the age of John Sevier. That still leaves me wondering who the other male child and 2 females in Valentine, Sr's house were. ----- Original Message ----- From: "rubyslippers" <rubyslippers@kc.rr.com> To: <BRANSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 10, 2001 9:19 AM Subject: [BRANSON-L] Gasconade Bransons - Calif Bransons > In Bones of the Bransons in the letter from an uncle is the following riddle: > > 1. Submitted by James L. Branson of Philadelphia The grandmother of William on the mother's side who married Elizabeth Osmund was Elizabeth Day. The grandmother on the mother's side was Martha Bailey The names of the grandfather and mother of William are not given but their children's names follow:Elizabeth, Mary, Thomas,David,John Day Branson,Sarah, Joseph, Jonathan, Lionel, Rebecca, William and Day Branson. It must have been John Day Branson who married Martha Antrim Osmund for he is the only John who is brother to out great grandfather William who married Elizabeth Osmund, the daughter of Martha Antrim Osmund, widow of John Osmund. Jacob Branson's account found among Isiah Branson's papers says, speaking of Martha Antrim Osmund:" she was again married to John Branson, my father's brother, hence became my aunt". It seems singular that he does not mention the names of his grandparents, though he gives all their children's names, and mentions the name of his great grandmothers, Elizabeth Day and Martha Bailey. John Day Branson married Martha Osmund, widow of John Osmund, and daughter of Thomas and Sarah Antrim; and William Branson, our great grandfather married Elizabeth Osmund, the daughter of widow Osmund, whom John Day Branson married. But what was the given name of the father of these 13( I only count 12 children..anne) children, one of whom married the widow Osmund and the other who married the daughter of her first husband? John Day Branson whom we know as John Branson without the middle name married Martha Osmund, widow of John Osmund according to State records of New Jersey on the 6th day of December 1748. And William Branson, his brother married Elizabeth Osmund, the daughter of John and Martha Osmund April 11, 1753 according to these same records.
I will post the articles if it is OK with our list mom... I would think that the rights to this should have run out in 103 years.. anne
I could start posting from this if you all would like the info...it was printed in 1898 and 1899...only 2 issues..one issue is descendants of Thomas Branson who married Rebecca Borden. The other issue is mostly descendants of William Branson who married Elizabeth Osmond/Osmund. anne
