Surnames: Branson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kdF.2ACIB/259.1.1.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Hi, When I spoke to Kathleen Branson, she quoted to me that Valentine had Thomas Jefferson Branson, and Thomas J.'s fourth son was James Reuben Branson. I know its the right James Branson because his marriage and death pans out with what I knew already (correct wife's name and burial place). When my grandfather passed the pocketwatch to my father, his explanation of it was that James Reuben's father was the first to work for Burlington. The pocketwatch was presented to him for exceptional work. Supposedly, when James Reuben began working for Burlington, he inherited that watch from Thomas. I'm not certain of the actual duration of their railroad careers, but James Reuben worked for Burlington most of his life. We are in luck that railway companies are notoriously studious recordkeepers. I've sent an e-mail to the library in Chicago that holds the Burlington archives, requesting information from personnel records, and if they prove unresponsive, I shall go there and rese! arch it myself. Meanwhile, sometime this week, I'll be receiving by mail the documentation that verifies that James Reuben came from the Thomas J. who came from Valentine. I believe Kathleen was correct, because she did mention another son, Charles L., your father. I will share this with you once it arrives. I find it odd that your father would have not mentioned a younger brother named James, but the documentation may show that they were from a different marriage or something. There is no connection in my family with Oklahoma - that I know of. James Reuben was born in Jefferson City. Did Thomas J. live there at all? -Matthew Branson

I visited the farm with my dad in 1948. Dad had never mentioned him having any other occupation. I do know that there was another Thomas Jefferson Branson who is buried in northern Oklahoma. Between usk, maybe we can get it straight. I do know my dad was brought to northern Indiana by his Cousin Charles Logan Branson and this is how he met my mother. Hope to hear from you soon. Dale

Surnames: Branson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kdF.2ACIB/259.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Dale, I guess you didn't see the other posts I made before you replied to my one that was full of mistakes. Your grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Branson, is my g.g.greatgrandfather. The reason you can find little about his life in Missouri is that he worked for Burlington Railroad his entire life, and I have records from the Burlington Archives in Chicago being researched now. I am in possession of the pocketwatch he used as an engineer for the railroad, and I live in Greene County if you would like to see it. Kathleen Branson, the secretary for the family reunions has complete documentation about Thomas Jefferson's offspring. Thomas Jefferson's fourth son was James Reuben Branson, my g.grandfather and your uncle. I don't know anything about the wife of Thomas Jefferson Branson, but I'll be sure to give you whatever Kathleen gives me. You have two living first cousins that I know of. Their names are Dane and Albert Branson, and they live in Fort Myers, Florida. I am popul! ating the family record in California, Missouri with the descendents of Thomas Jefferson Branson that I know of, and any information about your family would be great. I'm also writing a narrative family history, generation by generation, starting from 1605 in Sonning, Berkshire, England. Once completed, I will give you a copy since it is a story of your ancestors as well. I would like to hear everything you know about Thomas Jefferson Branson also. I believe when he was killed that he had only one daughter and she was raised by his brother. You may find more information by going the the Latter Day Saints library. I wish that I could give you more information on this, but as the years go by everything gets a little harder to research. Write again if you find anything and thank you. Dale Branson

Surnames: Branson, Woody, Andrew Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kdF.2ACIB/369 Message Board Post: I have been trying to determine which of the many "Eli Bransons" is my g-g-g grandfather, Eli Branson. My g-g-g grandfather Eli was b Oct 18, 1827 and d Aug 18, 1893. He married Mary Ann Woody, b Jul 11, 1836, d Dec 3, 1872. Both are buried in Chatham County in the Cane Creek Meeting cemetary. When Mary Ann died young, Eli took their daughter, Flora, my g-g grandmother, to live with her Uncle Newton and Aunt Susan Woody in Guilford County, where she was raised. Flora's daughter Mary m Rev. James David Andrew, with the Andrew family of Guilford Co. another of my main interests. I've found Capt. Eli of the N.C. Independent Militia, Eli B. Branson, Sr. and Jr. in the 15th N.C. Troops, and have read with interest , of Eli with the 26th N.C., Company G. Have also seen an Eli in S.C. 1st Infantry. Also, an Eli serving in the War of 1812. Excluding the possibility that there is only one Eli Branson, and he's a time traveller, with a penchant for wars, would appreciate any help in identifying my g-g-g grandfather in this tangled web of Bransons; i.e. who were his parents, etc. Thanks for any assistance.
