She married first John Pennington in Cumberland County Illinois and, after his death, Hiram Bowman. I have quite a bit on the descendants of Andrew Branson but continue to hit a brick wall when trying to find his ancestors. I suspect he is part of the Branson family that moved to Highland County Ohio but can't find how Andrew fits. Likewise with his wife Elizabeth. Thomas Jefferson Branson's marriage license gives her name as Greenwall or Greenwald but I haven't found a marriage or a family with that name. I am hoping someone on this board might be able to give me lead on either Andrew or Elizabeth.. I'll be happy to share my information on the desendants.

At least you are one of the very few people that have the true family of Valentine posted - with Sarah Smith as the mother of everyone but Irene. But here is my question - what proof is there that Jared was the son of Thomas L and Jeane Painter? Why couldn't he be for instance the son of Thomas Branson and Rebekah Borden - brother of Eli and Levi Branson and the Jared E. (middle initial) stand for Elijah? His son Valentine named a son Elijah.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kdF.2ACIB/444 Message Board Post: Looking for information on Andrew Branson, particularly any information about his parents and if they are related to the other Branson families in Virginia. Andrew is listed in 1840 Randolph County Indiana census with one male under 5 years of age and one 20-30; three girls under 5, one 5-10 and one 20-30. He is listed as a farmer in Randolph county Indiana in 1850, age 48. Wife's name was Elizabeth, age 48 and children in household were Thomas, Nancy D, Martha, Christina, Matilda, Malinda, and Achvah. Andrew, Elizabeth, Thomas and Nancy were born in Virginia; Martha and Christine in Ohio; the rest in Indiana. Based on the children's birth dates, the Branson family left Virginia about 1832-1834, probably for Ohio and then moved to Indiana sometime between 1837 and 1839. 1855 State Census for Cumberland County Illinois lists an Andrew Branson and a T. J. Branson. Andrew's household included one male under 10 and one male 40-50; one female under 10; three 10-20; and one 40-50. Elizabeth, apparently widowed, was living in Majority Point Post Office, Prairie City Township, Cumberland county, Illinois in 1860 (age 49, born Virginia) with Martha, Cristina, Linda, and William. In 1880, she was living with son William in Woodbury Township of Cumberland County, age 70. She is shown as born in Virginia, father born in North Carolina and mother in Ireland. Any help or comments will be appreciated.

I'm willing to guess Voluntin is Valentine. My Valentine named his first son Isaac. And it dawns on me that this John could be your "Jorne".

John Branson b 1767 VA (place unknown) parents unknown but his father is believed to be a John Branson. He lived in Stokes Co from 1789 until 1849 when Forsyth Co formed from Stokes Co and his land fell within the new county. He died Forsyth Co between 1850-1860. Married c/a 1792 Mary "Polly" Hutchins dau of John Hutchins & Sibella Angel. Mary b 1772 Surry County NC in an area that became Stokes Co. Their children are not all proven but from my research the following are likely theirs: 1) Charity Branson b 1793 (md Jesse Allen 15 Mar 1814 Stokes Co NC). 2) Elizabeth Branson b 1800 (md John Neal 14 June 1831 Stokes Co NC) 3) Ambrose Branson b 1802 (md Harriet Holt 22 Jan 1834 Stokes Co NC) d between 1870 -1880 Forsyth Co NC 4) Jorne Branson b 1804-1810 5) Nancy Branson b 1807 (md Wm. John Branson is believed to have had two brothers Zachariah Lyon Branson & William Branson. His sisters are unknown. I have seen emails that try to link these Branson lines to the Thomas Day Branson lines and the lines of Eli & Levi Branson in NC. All evidence points away from that.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kdF.2ACIB/441 Message Board Post: I have created a website devoted to the family of John Sevier Branson (1826-1905) of Tennessee, Missouri, and, after 1849, the gold country of California. John and his wife Martha Jane Ousley raised ten children in Mariposa County, CA. The site contains biographies and pictures of the couple, the ten children, and all 45 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren. John and Martha are my great-great grandparents. John Sevier Branson was the twelfth of the twelve children of Thomas Branson. Thomas was born in the Blue Ridge Mtn. region of Virginia, who lived the first part of his adult life in eastern Tennessee (where his children were born), then ended up in Gasconade County. Thomas Branson's father was Jarred E. Branson of Virginia, Tennessee, and Missouri. Thomas was married to Susannah (Susan, Susanna, Alma) McGowan. The front page of the website is "http://home.comcast.net/~davesmeds/bransonfrontpg.htm".
