    3. I'll have to go back to my files that are buried right now to find out the answer as to where I got the information from. It may have been my sister who also does family history research. I will try to get to that as soon as I can. My husband is ill right now and I have to take him to the doctor tomorrow. He has had a mild stroke and may have to be admitted to the hospital. (This isn't the first stroke he's had...and he has me worried--is stubborn and won't go to emergency room to get checked out). Will talk to you later. 3. What about the family story handed down from Benjamin of the Reuben branch? That story as I recall said that Jared's father or grandfather was an apprentice to Virginia who met his wife who was also an apprentice on the ship over. That would not fit with the Thomas Branson below's lineage. Those Bransons were in the country much longer. Absalom Branson who appeared about the same time as Jared in nearby Pittsylvania county, on the other hand, has a similar family story of a father who was an apprentice coming over. Absalom's descendants lived near Jared's descendants as time went on. I still believe that Jared's family (and Absalom's) is related to the Bransons of Charles and St. Mary's county, Maryland. I haven't found the proof ...yet. But in and from this area there were Jared/Gerrard Bransons. -----Original Message----- From: branson-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:branson-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of OregonGal9@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, August 23, 2006 12:50 AM To: branson@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BRANSON] Revisiting Thomas BRANSON/Jean PAINTER I have not yet found any proof that Jared E. 1. [BRANSON] LISTMOM: Mailman Migration Update
    2. Yvonne
    3. Folks, Instead of my usual signature block, I'm using my general "Listmom" block so you can see the lists I admin and that all of these lists have migrated from the old Smartlist software to the new Mailman. Because SOCAL (SOuthern CALifornia) participated in the beta testing I was able to migrate all my lists a day or two earlier than the rest (thousands) of lists. Overall I am very pleased. As Listmom the utilities pages are much easier to work with than SmartList. A few update points and reminders: ~The lists only allow you to subscribe to one mode per email address. With Smartlist you could use the same addy on both the "list" and "digest" versions. Not so with mailman. All those pre-migration with an address on both migrated to the "list" version. You must decided which mode you want or use a different address for the other. ~Those on digest defaulted to "plain text" (in-line) messages. If you wish to receive your digests as MIME attachments, email me privately <ybowers@comcast.net> and I'll change it for you. ~There are no more "L" and "D" designations (except for subbing/unsubbing to digest version). The posting address is now JUST the listname i.e. SOCAL@rootsweb.com. You may have to update your mail filters and address books. ~AOL-ers are still only getting sporadic (if any) messages. AOL blocked the Lists9 server (the new expansion server where Mailman lists are housed). Although they are working on the problem, it has not been resolved yet. ~Relating to the above point (and to anyone who suspects they are not receiving list mail), it's always a good idea to check the archives http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ before emailing me or the list with a "test" or "is the list working?" message which is singularly unhelpful and clogs up the archives. When in doubt, email me at <ybowers@comcast.net> ~Soon (after migration of all the lists) there will be a tool (web page) each subscriber can go to to change their own subscriptions (unsub, switch to digest, switch to MIME, etc) which will render me virtually obsolete :-) Just kidding. It will be a help to you. There will be an announcement when that is available. ~The gateways to the Rootsweb Messages Boards are not turned on yet so those lists (my surname lists) may see a delay in board messages hitting the lists. I have to manually allow them. ~You may have noticed (but probably not :-) ) the rotating footers are gone. I am updating the one footer (non-digest and digest messages), the digest administrivia (the message you see after the headers and before the TOC), etc. and the Welcome Messages but that will be accomplished over several days. Overall, I am quite pleased. If you have any difficulties which may or may not be attributed to Mailman, please let me know and I'll do my best to get it fixed. That's all, folks! -- Yvonne Bowers, Listmom NORCAL*SOCAL*CORNISH*CORNISH-GEN*CA-CORNISH BENNEY*BRANSON*GARRETSON/GARRISON*GIANOTTI* LORENTZ/LORANCE/LOWRANCE*MOFFAT/TT/ETT/ITT*OLIVER

    1. [BRANSON] LISTMOM: MAILMAN UPDATE - FILTERS
    2. Yvonne
    3. Following up on the conversion of the mailing list software from Smartlist to Mailman, wee have a new feature which will simplify things for listers. You may have noticed you only see BRANSON@rootsweb.com on your messages and digests (no more "-L" or "D"). From now on, the posting address is simply BRANSON@rootsweb.com and the default subscription address is BRANSON-request@rootsweb.com. The default mode is "list" version. If you sub or unsub from the "digest" version, you will use the old BRANSON-D-request@rootsweb.com. You may have to change your mail filters and address book to reflect the name change. Digesters, please note: if you are having difficulty with receiving digests or the appearance of them let me know. The default is "plain text" but if you prefer MIME attachments, let me know. 3. Here are a couple found John Bransons that didn't go to Gasconade, MO. Not sure who they belong to but putting them out there. I have a feeling they belong to one of the Jared children. 1st John appears in Dist 4 of Marion Co, TN 1836 Tax 1840 census there is a John b 1810/20, Robert b/1780/90 and ??Nory?? b 1790/1800 1850 census - John is still there. Born 1805 VA wife Nancy children: Harvey b 1829 Humus b 1832 Erin b 1836 William b 1840 Valentine b 1845 Isaac 7 months John, Robert and Nory also appear in the 1830 census The 2nd John is married in 1870 to Sarah. We think that this could/should be Sally Surratt that married a John on May 17, 1827 with sur Jesse Mankin (same name as 12 Mar 1807 Jarrard Branson and Frances East, Sur Jesse Mankins) 1870 Census of Fancy Gap, Carroll Co has John b 1807, Sarah Nancy E. 25 Thomas J. 23 Rufus 19 Living with them is Samuel Amburn 63 Next door is Greenberry G. Can you tell me where you obtained information that Absalom born cir 1744 who lived in Pittsylvania was a Jr? And also where you got the birthday of 1690's for his father? All I have read are accounts from his grandson and gr-gr grandson neither of which knew the name of Absalom's father, the immigrant. Thank you
