Hello Kathy, I'm researching BRANNIGAN's from Drogheda, Louth. According to my Aunts, my ggrandfather Christopher, was born in Drogheda( in the year of the new bridge; 1855 ) one of twins, brother Philip. I obtained the film of the St.Peters' R.C. church records to check it all out. I found a record of twins Christopher & Philip to John & Margaret BRENNAN in 1855. I knew of an older sister of Christopher, & she appeared, Mary, to John & Margaret BRANNIGAN. I then found the marriage of John BRANNIGAN & Margaret CAMPBELL, & another son. There were no other mentions of a John & Margaret BRENNAN, so I assume for some reason the surname appears incorrectly in my ggrandfathers case. I wouldn't say they were interchangable surnames, however , mistakes are made, & it's always wise to be very flexible regarding surname spellings & variations.
