    3. RETARDED GRANDPARENTS (this was actually reported by the teacher) After Christmas, a teacher asked her young pupils how they spent their holiday away from school. One child wrote the following: We always used to spend the holidays with Grandma and Grandpa They used to live in a big brick house but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Florida. Now they live in a tin box and have rocks painted green to look like grass. They ride around on their bicycles and wear name tags because they don't know who they are anymore. They go to a building called a wrecked centre, but they must have got it fixed because it is all okay now. They do exercises there, but they don't do them very well. There is a swimming pool too, but in it, they all jump up and down with hats on. At their gate, there is a dollhouse with a little old man sitting in it. He watches all day so nobody can escape Sometimes they sneak out. They go cruising in their golf carts. Nobody there cooks, they just eat out. And, they eat the same thing every night - early birds. Some of the people can't get out past the man in the dollhouse. The ones who do get out, bring food back to the wrecked centre and call it pot luck. My Grandma says that Grandpa worked all his life to earn his retardment and says I should work hard so I can be retarded someday too. When I earn my retardment, I want to be the man in the dollhouse. Then I will let people out so they can visit their grandchildren! Email address: [email protected] Web page address: http://www.aztec-net.com/~bradner/

Surnames: Brannigan Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RdF.2ACIB/78.1 Message Board Post: My daughter's grandfather was a Brannigan also thought to be of Irish decent. James and John Brannigan (brothers) immigrated to Canada from Scotland with their widowed mother Beatrice Brannigan. (I have been told that she was christened Bridget but changed her first name somewhere along the line) I think they immigrated in 1919 to Quebec Canada. The two brothers settled and married in the Vancouver area. Both dropped the Brannigan last name while still teens when their mother remarried here in Canada. There is so little information on my ex-husbands side of the family and I am trying to find out a little information for my daughters. I am wondering if my daughters great grandfather (first name unknown) had any sisters or brothers who may have also immigrated to Canada. None of the decendants of John and James have any information on the Scottish/Irish history. They think the boys were born in Govan and raised in Glasgow Scottland until their father died and the family imm! igrated to Canada. Does any of this fit in with your family history? Let me know if so. Thanks, Allison
