James jnr married Matilda White, they had Anne and James 3rd; Matilda was married before and had David White and Annie White ( must have been confusing). Not sure when they came to Australia or which ship, but Anne Branigan married William Whiteside 1864 near Warrnambool Victoria.
Hi Matthew, Since my Dad was born in Anaconda, Montana and my Mom was raised in Anaconda, Montana your post interested me. I was in Anaconda in September, it is 26 miles from Butte. Butte has the copper mines and the copper was smelted in Anaconda. My Mom's Great Grandmother was Brigid Brannigan Rice from Islandmoyle. She died c. 1855. My Grandmother Katherine Flanagan was from the crossroads of Cabra/Kinghill. My Mom's first cousin, Lizze Flanagan ran the Cabra P.O. Was Thomas Brannigan's sister married to a Hillen?I found the following informtion from the 1930 Census: Joseph Strom 39, immigrated from Sweden in 1920 and married for the fist time at 39, electrician, copper mine Margaret wife 39 imm. Irish Free State 1907 married first time age 18 Hillen, Katherine, stepdaughter, 19, born Utah, parents both born Irish Free State, cash girl, dry goods store " Daniel, stepson, 18, born Montana " " boner, packing plant " Margaret, stepdaught, 15 , born Montana " " cash girl, dry goods store " Marie, " 13 , born Montana " " " Susan(?), " 11, born Montana " " I found a Bernard Hillen who immigrated in 1903 through Ellis Island, he went to Park City, Utah to a person by the name of Judge. I can't read the rest of it. Since Katherine Hillen was born in Utah, possibly Bernard is the first husband of Margaret Hillen Strom? She was born in Pennsylvania, approximately late 1870's-late 1880's. She married my ggrandfather John Riley Cartwright, who was born in Arkansas in about 1885, and died in Texas in about 1941. They had 3 children, my grandfather, John Joseph Cartwright born in 1912 in Texas, Wilburn Cartwright born 1919 in Oklahoma and Adelaide Cartwright born in 1923 in Oklahoma. Catherine/Katherine died in about 1929 of a burst appendix, either in Oklahoma or Texas. There's a possibility that Catherine/Katherine's last name could also be Brannan/Brannon.

My direct Brannigan line comes from Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. As I said in the original post, these names are relatives of my Step-father Edward James Brannigan, Jr. I was thinking that this James Brannigan was related directly, perhaps my stepfather's grandfather, because James was not only his middle name, but his father and his son's as well. How far back are you on your Brannigans? Rose-Marie
