    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team If anyone has an interest in finding alternative communication possibilities and/or suggestions for alternatives, please send a note to the list to that effect ASAP. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    3. We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes,

Author: bernie812 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.brannigan/214.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I have often been curious why there are so many families in the same town with the same surname, and the further back one goes the more consistency there is in the spelling. This has to be more than just coincidence. Are these families connected by common ancestor(s)? I can't answer that, but I do know the locals used "Ancestral Names" to distinguish between one Branigan family and another. These ancestral names can be found even in documents such as the Griffiths Valuation. For example, there is a name listed in Griffiths as follows: Francis Branigan (Tom). This identifies this person as descendant of Thomas Branigan, not to be confused with other Francis Branigans on the same document. Some other ancestral names are the "Artys", "Terr" (Terrance) and the "Barneys or Barney Franks". The last name is my ancestral name. Do you know your ancestral name? I have no Felix or Charles in my tree and my Francis does not match (DOB) with yours. So if we are related, it goes way back. There is a Felix in 1830 Tithe Applotments. I will check my records and attempt to contact my Irish relatives for input. Regards Bernard Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In particular I am trying to tie in two brothers, Charles and Felix Branigan, who emigrated to Canada circa 1820 and then on to the USA. Charles' obituary gives his dates as 1784-1880. I believe their father was a Francis Branigan from Annagh. I am in the process of assembling as much information on the Branigans of Annagh using all available sources in Ireland and America and will probably visit the area within the next few months. I would be happy to share anything I find and wonder if you have anything you could share with me. Feel free to contact me direct at [email protected] Regards, Boyd (gen partner of Barbara Braswell, whose A.com this is.) It is important because some of my family settled there as well. Some settled and then went back to Ireland because they did not like it. It seems your family arrived in Dover, NH about the same time mine did. My great-grandfather James Flanagan and his wife Mary settled there and had twelve children. Only one did not survive. Leo was electrocuted as a teenager on a live wire up a telephone pole. Most of my ancestors on my mother's side are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Dover. I have been there more than once, and I have so many relatives there. Some names are Hughes, Gollogly, Carraher, Flanagan and Brannagan. Where were you born? Was it in New England?
