It can be found in Germany, England, Scotland, Sweden, Denmark, etc, even Israel (Jews). England has Christenings/Baptism records as well as Jewish records. There has been immigrants immigrate to England with the surname. I would like to make this all aware so we could be a step closer to solving mysteries. Some evidence suggests Brand was introduced to England by the Old Norse word Brandr. There are different theories how Brand surname reached England. Some sources also suggest it was Saxon. According to Wikipedia (not very trusty source), the English word brand originated from Old Norse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brand#History). I have looked through Brand records and have noticed there is a low amount of results in times such as 1600s, 1500s, etc. I would like to find out if it is an English origin surname or not and would like to know a lot more about it. I have found records prior to 1800 limited and difficult to research, so have little information about lineages in the 1700's. These Brand/Brandt families emigrated to Wisconsin in the 19th century, some also living in Clayton Co., IA and southeastern Nebraska. I am not directly related to the Brand/Brandt line, but as they intermarried with other German families from the same area, both prior to and after their emigration, I can trace an association.
