According to "Kegley's Virginia Frontier", John Bradshaw gave a deposition on May 7, 1833 when he was 74 years old. The disposition stated that at the young age of 18 he volunteered as a spy. Primarily he would take a stand in gaps between mountains and low places between the head waters of Laurel Creek and William Lafferty's plantation. Normally he was in accompanied by James Ellis or with Col. Samuel Estill of Kentucky. On these stands, they would meet spies from Burnside's Fort. They would also travel around the county, including the head waters of Big and Little Stony Creek, a branch of Indian Creek know as the Indian Draft and the head waters of Wolf Creek. John and his companions carried provisions they supplied themselves and swore never to build fires. The article states that John Bradshaw died in 1835. The information was found in "Kegley, F.
