Hi all, I have been reading the few emails regarding Samuel Bradshaw being in Missouri in 1839 from Kenneth and the one about him listed in the 1840 census. Yes, this Samuel Bradshaw was in Missouri in 1840. This Samuel Bradshaw I have been tracing for a number of years since he is my ggg grandfather. Samuel Bradshaw is in Missouri in Bolware Twp, Gasconade Co., in 1840--census roll 223. My gg grandfather John Gately Bradshaw, Samuel Bradshaw's son, was mar'd in Greene Co. in 1844. The importance of John Gately Bradshaw is that his middle name: Gately is his mothers' maiden name, and has been used by numerous descendants as a middle name, which was extremely common. I have volumes of information regarding Jemima Gately Bradshaw, Samuel's wife and John's mom. In following the Gately/Mercer family which usually moved together, you often see Samuel and Jemima Bradshaw close by one of the other Gately descendants, such as in the 1830 Madison Co., TN Census. Jemima's brother John Gately is listed 2 houses down. Along with the Watts, who are John Gately's wife: Rebecca's family. Samuel and Jemima were mar'd in Caldwell Co., KY on July 20 1819. Jemima's mother: Jemima Mercer Gately gave her permission for the marriage. Sam'l Bradshaw is listed next door to Widow Gately in the 1820 Caldwell Co., KY census. Prior to this the only mention to date I have of this Samuel Bradshaw is in Court Records found in the archives for Caldwell Co. and Livingston Co., KY. He is mentioned in 1810 as part of the team to Survey the Dry Fork Road near Jenkins in Caldwell CO., KY. He is mentioned numerous times between 1810 and 1820. Shortly thereafter they moved to Madison Co., TN and then prior to 1840 to Missouri. In the 1850 census he is in Greene Co, one of the sons: Jesse Franklin is next door with wife Lucinda and one of Samuel and Jemima's daughters: Emily (who later mar'd Jesse Collier). Samuel Bradshaw died Jan 27 1859 in Webster Co., Missouri. Jasper Miller did the probate. Please do not confuse this Samuel Bradshaw with the other Samuel Bradshaw in another part of Missouri in 1830. The other Samuel Bradshaw had about 9 children listed in the 1830 census. My ggg grandfather has 5 children: 2 boys under 10, 2 girls under 5, and 1 girl 5-10. To date my cousins and I still have not been able to establish Samuel's parents or siblings. Any help in regards to this would be appreciated. Thank you for all the wonderful information you are all sharing on the Bradshaw mailing list! It is always helpful and has helped me to find cousins!
