Martha, I have a Samuel Bradshaw as the son of John Bradshaw (1743-1818) and Nancy "Agnes" Clendennen. This is not my direct line and I have very little info. Although I do have a list of 9 children for John and Nancy "Agnes", I have no documentation, so this should be treated as only a starting point. In a message dated 9/3/03 5:38:18 PM Eastern Daylight Time, BJHorne@aol.com writes: Douglas Okay, I'll throw out a VERY long shot idea........... I have a John Douglass family from Pennsylvania (late 1700's - early 1800's) who migrated to Ohio. John married Mary Bradshaw (also from Pennsylvania). A recurring name in that family is Larimer or Lorimer. Their son, named Lorimer, born about 1820, was a missionary to India and Burma. I am told by a distant cousin that this name is connected with the Douglass family from an earlier date. I'll look for my notes if this strikes a note of interest with anyone, but there was a story attached to the name. It was the similarity of the names that made me wonder if there was a connection. Like I said - a long shot idea............. Deborah
Not sure if this is a match or not since I don't have anything on Larner other than his date of birth and the fact that his father died in Tennessee but a lot of research is based on "guess work" or speculation so here is the speculation. Guess the best bet is to send what I have on the "parents" Benjamin Bradshaw (28 May 1758 in Goochland, Virginia, died 12 Jan 1841 in Jefferson, Tennessee). Married Fanny Melton born 1769 in Savannah, Georgia (not sure if that is correct my files show Suvvanah and I "guessed" it was my poor typing) in 22 Jan 1787 in Fluvanna, VA (that spelling is correct. <grin>). Source for Benjamin's birth date is 2 The Douglas Register, Transcribed by W. Mac. Jones, Baltimore, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. 1985 p161, remainder of information on the family is from Benjamin's pension record. The pension has his DOB as 1757, Albemarle Co., VA and cites bible record as source. Children: Nancy (1788), Mary 1791, Betsy 1793, Patsy 1795, Larner 1799, Pearce 1803 The following is the information I have on Benjamin (unedited - just copied from my notes) From data from Helen (Mrs. Robert) Dreher (7/28/96)H12 Joseph & Benjamin were twins. Source for family, dates, etc. are from Benjamin's pension file from the National Archives. Fluvanna formed from Albemarle Co. He was drafted for service 4 times from 1777 to 1781 from Fluvanna Co., VA, served under 4 Captains, no record of battles in which he was engaged, out 19 Oct 1781, applied for pension 10 Dec 1834 in Jefferson Co., TN. Record shows "other related names" but no reference as to whom they might be: (Copy of a page from a family bible) Alfred B. Sparks b 2 Oct 1817 Daniel Martin b 28 Sep 1818 George Clenenger d 14 Oct 1837 Polly Denniston d 23 Aug 1820 Note marriage bond that is with pension papers lists date as 21 Jan 1788. After the war he moved to Montgomery Co, Va, then to Jefferson Co., VA. He stated that he was drafted. A large part of the pension file is unreadable. ------ From "Virginia Revolutionary Pension Applications Volume Nine" Abstracted and compiled by John Frederick Dorman, Washington D.C. 1964 BRADSHAW, Benjamin (Fanny). W.894. 10 Dec. 1834. Jefferson Co., Tenn. Benjamin BRADSHAW, aged 77, declares he was drafted in 1776 or 1777 in Fluvanna Co., Va., and enrolled in Capt. Richard NAPIER'S company commanded by Col. EARNEST and Gen. NELSON. He marched to Richmond where he drew arms and then to Williamsburg where he was stationed until his term of three months expired. In 1777 he was drafted in Capt. Daniel TILLMAN'S company commanded by Col. TAYLOR, rendezvoused at Charlottesville, and was marched to Albemarle Barracks where he was stationed four months. On March 1, 1781 he was drafted in Fluvanna County in Capt. TILMAN'S company commanded by Gen. EARNEST and marched to Richmond where he was stationed some time, then to a large swamp called the Chicken Swamp in persuit of ARNOLD, and back to the Four Mile Creek below Richmond where he was discharged on 2 June 1781. On 15 Aug. 1781 he was drafted into Capt. Joseph HATON'S company under Col. EARNEST and Gen. WEEDON, rendezvoused at Fluvanna Court House and marched to Gloucester County where he was stationed when CORNWALLIS was taken. He was discharged there on 19 October. He was born in Albemarle County in 1757 (record in Bible at home). He lived in Fluvanna County and after the war moved to Montgomery Co., Va., and then to Jefferson Co., Tenn. 29 July 1843. Jefferson Co., Tenn. Fanny (X) BRADSHAW of said county, aged 74, declares she is the widow of Benjamin BRADSHAW. Hi BRADSHAW'S, ISO any one that might be connected to my BRADSHAW LINE. I am the granddaughter of Sara Margaret GARRETT. She is closing in on 100, living in Lawrenceville, Georgia; so her personal information will stay on that level as she is still around. She is the daughter of Thomas Alberry GARRETT & Sara Margaret BRADSHAW. Both Tho and Sara are buried in Osborn Cemetery, Hiawasee, Towns County, GA and I believe they lived in an areas called Macedonia. They had strong ties to Rabun and Towns County, GA but their lines stem back into Gnatty, Near Hayesville On The Brasstown Ball Mtn, Clay Co., NC; as well as Cherokee and Haywood County NC. The BRADHSAW'S might have been connected to an old line that was in early East TN. My Great Grandmother: Sara Margaret BRADHSAW, my great-grandmother was born about 1876. My Great Grandfather: Thomas Alberry GARRETT born 1872. I believe that the area mentioned above might have been (at one time) part of Cherokee CO., NC. Not raised near or w/this line, my research is long distance and I thought I'd take a jab out here w/what I do have. Sara Margaret BRADHSAW, dau of William McKinley "Billy" BRADSHAW b. 1844 and and Unknown mother, whom is remembered as a BLACKHAWK baby, w/a good possibility of having the surname as NATIONS; my theory is she was from "somewhere" in old western NC, Cherokee County?!? "Billy" BRADSHAW was m. to Elizabeth LUIS; and had at least 1 son named James Robert (Martin??) BRADSHAW and interesting enough, he married Margaretta (Margrett) M.GARRETT whom was the daughter of William Kemsey (H.) "III" ³Billy² GARRETT & Marianne Elizabeth "Twin" (Elden) ELLER. These last 2 folks were the parents of my grandmother's father (above) Thomas Alberry GARRETT. Notes on what I'm told by family: GG Grandmother was a BLACKHAWK baby left with the PENDERGRAFF/PENDERGRASS family possible Cherokee or Clay Co., NC as an orphan whom was picked up by a PENDERGRAFF during a raid on a Native Village, possibly in southern VA, eastern TN or western NC - this is sketchy and was told to me by her daughter very recent, reportedly my grandmother¹s only memories at this time. REFERNCE: Blackhawk Indian War in Greene Cty, Ill. in 1832. BLACKHAWK¹S were ³CREEK² Indians. Noted in a book, ³ "Sketches of Rabun County History, 1819-1948" by Andrew Jackson RITCHIE I did find these to listings. PENDERGRASS, GEORGE - Page 265 PENDERGRASS, SARAH ANN - Page 156 Nat'l Archives has recorded an interesting Military tale of a Capt. or Corp. PENDERGRAFF whom swooped up a native baby out of the dying mother's arms; he took this female infant baby home and raised it as his own. Wouldn't have believed it had I not found it myself. ~ Chrystie - Rootsweb List Administrator for ~ -------------------------------------------------- THE BROOKOVER, COWGER, KRABAL, MAJOR & MOYERS Myers Genealogy Research Homestead http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~chrystiem/
