Hi my name is Carol and I am trying to help my mother in-law find information on her mother. I am looking for Ethel Elizabeth Bradshaw believed to be born Nov. 09,1895 in Kansas. She married Robert Monro Wilson March 14,1914 in Modesto, California. Ethel parents were Hugh Bradshaw and Mary Slater. This is all the information that I have. Any and all help will be much appreciated. Carol

Hi Mark, Maybe I can help on the "Jr." part. In those days you didn't have to be a son to be called "Jr.". If you had an uncle, etc. who lived in the same place that you did, you were refered to as "Jr." on all documents until the older with the same name was deceased and then the "Jr." was dropped from the youngers name. I know this makes things a lot worse for US, but it seems to have made things a lot easier for them then to have the men separated in this fashion. This is just anoother reason original sources are so important. Wills can be a great source for this kind of information. Unfortunately, I've probably just made your quest a little harder. Anne
To All BRADSHAW'S: Terry's father, Bill, was the son of a sharecropper from Sparta, Tenneessee, and his mother, Novis, was the daughter of a dirt farmer from Hll Sunnit, Louisiana. This is from his book "Man of Steel', page 75. Karen Novak Carole J. Hays wrote: > I knew I shouldn't have relied on my memory of having read a magazine > article several years ago! Hello Anne and All, I don't think I have a 'dangling Line' more a ggfather who came from nowhere! All your queries come from USA, is there no one in the UK? My ggfather RICHARD BRADSHAW first appeared on his marriage to Charlotte Dudding in Maidstone, Kent, UK in1862. My gfather, also Richard was born in 1863 in Somerset while his father worked at Wookey Hole Paper Mill. We are told that Richard snr was 'sent to India to start up a paper mill but died with fever before the family could follow'. But two younger daughters were born in Kent, UK so we presume the family returned to Kent first. Charlotte and children remained in Maidstone, Kent and worked in the paper mill there. I cannot find a record of Richard snr's death overseas and have no idea where he came from or his birth date. Can anyone help? There are so many Richard Bradshaw's in the records I have no way of knowing which was him. By the way I noted many Bradshaws in Lancashire UK so looked up the IGI. There are only 363 pages of Bradshaws and only 12 pages of Richard Bradshaws!! Please help me someone? Margaret Mortham [email protected]
Re: Parts 1 & 2 of Des. of Humphrey & Patience (Bowers) Bradshaw of New England, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick The original Part 1 was 14.5KB and Part 2 12.7KB and Juno added junk [probably ads] making the files 31KB and 44KB respectively, well over the 20KB specified by RootsWeb. I will have to resubmit them with a smaller file size and more parts, although, I may try to resubmit them as is, maybe Juno will forget to add junk. Surprisingly, Part 3 went through with a 13KB size, more than part 2. Juno may be free but we have to put up with a lot of ads. I delete them from my hard drive as fast as they come in. Cheers, Ray ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. I am still trying to fit find the parents of my ancestor William Bradshaw. He was born in the mid-1740s and married ca. 1767 in Amelia Co., VA to Susannah Hutcheson. They moved to Pittsylvania (later Henry and then Franklin) County, VA in 1769. I have found two references to my William as "William, Jr.", so I suspect his father's name was also William. If you'll look at the 1763 tax list of Nottoway Parish, Amelia Co., VA, there is a household of a William Bradshaw that paid three tithes. Also listed in this same household were two other adult white males: William Bradshaw, Jr. and John Bradshaw. It looks like William Bradshaw, Jr. is my ancestor, since he had just reached adulthood and was as yet unmarried. John may have been a brother. Another possibility is that this John may have been the John Bradshaw (b. 1721|1722, son of John Bradshaw and Anne Hamblin) who was living in Amelia County at around this time and was married to Margaret Clemmons. Has anyone found John Bradshaw in another tax list in 1763? The intriguing thing about this is that John Bradshaw and Anne Hamblin had another son William, who was born 9 June 1719 in Bristol Parish, Prince George Co., VA. Perhaps this William Bradshaw (b. 1719) is the head of this 3-tithe household and the father of my William. I wonder if his brother John (b. 1721|1722), John's wife Margaret, and their family are living in the same household. Does anyone have any additional information on the William Bradshaw (son of John Bradshaw and Anne Hamblin) who was born in 1719? Who did he marry and where did he live? The other reference to my ancestor as William, Jr. is in a lawsuit in 1769 in Pittsylvania Co., VA, shortly after his arrival there. See Court Order Book 1 (1767-1772), page 131, 29 July 1769, William Young vs. William Bradshaw, Jr. As a young man in his early 20s, he apparently still used the "Jr.". I can find no later reference to him as "Jr.". Can anyone shed any light on this? Or can you rule out William (b. 1719) as a possibility? Some published sources have also suggested that my William was a son of John Bradshaw and Margaret Clemmons, but I don't know why he would have been referred to as William, Jr. Also, John and Margaret's son William was supposed to have gone to Abbeville Co., SC. (Was he the William who married 26 December 1783 in Amelia Co., VA to Mary Kirkland?) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. The family of William and Susannah Bradshaw can be found on my Bradshaw family web page at http://www.geocities.com/~arslanm/bradshaw/bradshaw.html.
Hi James, Welcome to our family of BRADSHAW searchers. Please post to the list whatever records you have as you can't tell who has that dangling ancestor on their tree and they don't connect right now. The more records each of us posts, the more chance we have of connecting with someone else somewhere down the road. GOOD LUCK!! Anne
Not sure if this is helpful, but Tryon Co. was formed 1769 from Mecklenburg. Tryon and Lincoln is where many of the BRADSHAWs can be found in later years, but also Burke Co. When searching for people in these areas, it is generally good to search all the surrounding counties (bummer) even if said ancestor never resided there. Records may still be recorded there or make mention of him there. BTW, there were lots of DUNNs later (mid 1800s) in Montgomery Co., NC which is generally close to the area these counties covered back then. I knew I shouldn't have relied on my memory of having read a magazine article several years ago! It just seems that I recall dismissing, upon reading the article, the probability of Terry Bradshaw being related to my relatives in Arkansas.
Hi, Francis, My great-aunt in AR married a Bradshaw. I have a picture of her son and his children, and their heads are shaped exactly like Terry Bradshaw's head (especially forehead). I've always felt that he was related to these Bradshaws somehow, but I've done no research. If I understand right, Terry's family is from up north, maybe Illinois...of course, that doesn't mean that he is not related to these AR Bradshaws. Carole J. Hays Hodge, LA
In the book Mecklenburg County, North Carolina Will Abstracts, 1791-1868 I found the following in the will of Andrew Dunn 29 Oct 1790 - "It is my will that my plantation I bought from Isaiah Bradshaw and Stitt is to be sold..." First I have seen of Isaiah being in Mecklenburg. There are several references to the Stitt plantation but nothing else on Isaiah. Does any one know if the NC land records are on-line and if so what is the path? Also has anyone seen anything about Isaiah being in Mecklenburg? I'm looking for any Isaiah "needle" in my genealogy haystack, he doesn't seem to have been very visual. Thanks for any help on this. B.J.
Hi all, This is my first time posting, although I have monitored the info for a couple of weeks. Guess if I don't post, I'll never find out if someone else is working on the same line!! My g-grandfather was Louis Madison BRADSHAW, b 27 Dec 1927 in TN; m 2 Sep 1852 (possibly in Jackson Co., AL) to Ann Caroline TONEY. He died 1 Nov 1909 in Collin Co., TX and she died 7 Mar 1905, also in Collin Co., TX. Louis Madison's father was supposedly named John and I've been told that both John and Louis were "suppliers of goods" during the civil war and were both captured and helf for a period of time. Louis Madison and Ann Caroline moved from AL to TX in the mid-1880's, along with their children and their families. Their children (all born in AL) were: Richard Anderson, b 28 Aug 1853, AL; m Nancy Jane TONEY Mary Eliza, b 25 May 1855; m Frank WESTDYKE John Gipson, b 30 Sep 1856; m Sarah (?) Samuel Genet, b 8 Nov 1858; m Ellen Maude MITCHELL George Washington, b 30 Apr 1860; m (1) Mary Etta MOONEY, (2) Belle HARRAD James Franklin, b 5 Aug 1862; m (1) Lucinda Jane REAVES, (2) Mary Lou NORRELL Henry A., b 20 Mar 1864; d 26 Jan 1865 Solomon Louis, b 30 Mar 1866; m Mattie STEVENS Robert Lee, b 27 Sep 1868; m Sarah Jane MOONEY Bettie B., b 14 May 1870; d 11 June 1871 William Walter, b 30 Apr 1871; m Mary Elvira HOLDER Winnie Susan, b 31 Mar 1873; m William L. HARRED George Washington had 19 children; James Franklin had 14; so there are lots of our BRADSHAW kin out there. I have lots of information on George Washington's descendants and William Walter's (my grandfather).
It is my understanding that Terry BRADSHAW, the ex-professional football quarterback descends from Willis and LaVicey BRADSHAW of Limestone Co, AL. Willis BRADSHAW was born in GA on 17 Mar 1804 and died on 23 Mar 1887 in Limestone Co, AL at the age of 83 years 6 days. Willis and LaVicey are shown in Bedford Co, TN in 1840 Federal Census, page 72 with following information. Males: 10001 (1 under age 5 and Willis at 20-30 years of age?) Females: 12101 (1 under 5; 2[5-10]; 1[10-15]; and LaVicey at 20-30?) Both Willis and LaVicey should have been 30-40 in the Census. Was this a mistake of the Census taker or the person writing the info down? Bobby G. Carwile Limestone Co, AL

O. K. so I will ask. Has anyone worked on the line for our "cousin" Terry Bradshaw the football player? Francis
Many thanks to all those who have already offered help on my question about J.J. BARNETT. I am also seeking information on William Henry BRADSHAW of White County and Prairie County and his family. If anyone could check death and cemetery records for White and possibly Prairie County I would appreciate it very much. The names and dates I am looking for are: William Henry BRADSHAW in 1891; Mary Wright BRADSHAW between 1845 and 1857; and Elizabeth BRADSHAW after 1865. William Henry was born in Tennessee in 1818 and married twice, Mary WRIGHT 1839 and Elizabeth ADAMS (who m1 ? PRESCOTT) sometime between 1845 and 1857. According to De Emmett Bradshaw in his book "My Story," they moved to West Point in 1850 where he was a wagon and carriage maker for several years (De includes a vivid description of William). He is on land records from 1860. He appears on the 1870 census for Red River twp, White County; and the 1880 census for West Point, White County. His children included: Mary BRADSHAW (1841-1888) who married William F. GREER (1838-1895); Martha BRADSHAW (1844-1935) whose husband was Benjamin JOHNSON; Helen BRADSHAW (?-?) married twice but no children; Bruce BRADSHAW; Lucy BRADSHAW (abt 1858-1887) never married; William G. BRADSHAW (1859-1896) married Carlotta WHITE (1869 IL-1924); James Burney BRADSHAW (1865 West Point-1935 Montrose, Montrose, CO) (my great-grandfather). I also found a son De didn't mention: Frank BRADSHAW (b. abt 1862). William's brother John T. BRADSHAW also came to Arkansas and married Frances P. COLEMAN in Searcy, White County in 1858. His descendants include SEARCH and CAUDLE. Brother David Carroll BRADSHAW came to Arkansas as well, marrying Emily MEREDITH. He is on land records dating to 1857. His descendants include HARDING, FISHER, NICHOLAS, WARDEN, and TURNER, BOGART, STARK, VINSON, and SHELL of Jacksonville, Sage, Zion, and Heber Springs, AR (De Emmett was descended from this line). Yet another brother, James Carson BRADSHAW married E.M. HATCHETT in West Point in 1857. His descendants include WARNER, SOUTHERN, and DAULTON. His second wife was Mary E. HOPE (m1 W.F. TOMPKINS) whom he married in 1865. They moved on to Texas in 1884. Their descendants include DAVIS, SABIN, HUNT, and BUCHANAN. I will be happy to share anything I have gleaned from De Emmett's genealogy in his book. I have verified several of his assertions independently. I hope this information is helpful to someone. Any cousins out there? Sincerely, Michael Fisk Grand Junction, CO
