    3. >From "Virginia Revolutionary Pension Applications Volume Nine", Abstracted and compiled by John Frederick Dorman, Washington, D.C. 1964 Page 58 BRADSHAW, Larner. S.35200. 4 Oct. 1819. Mercer Co., Ky. Larner BRADSHAW of said county declares he enlisted on 14 Feb. 1776 at Goochland Court House, Va., for two years with Capt. Samuel WOODSON of the 9th Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. Thomas FLEMING. He was in the battles of Brandywine, and Gates' defeat as a militiaman in 1780, and in several other skirmishes, and was discharged from Robert WOODSON'S company in the 9th regiment (who succeeded his brother Samuel WOODSON in the command of the company) at Valley Forge in Feb. 1778. The regiment was then commanded by Col. George MATHEWS who was taken prisoner at Germantown and who had succeeded Col. FLEMING. 4 Oct. 1819. Mercer Co., Ky. George ROWLAND and Claborne(sic) BRADSHAW of said county declare they know Larner BRADSHAW served as a soldier in the 9th Virginia Regiment. 1 Oct. 1821. Mercer Co., Ky. Larner BRADSHAW of said county, aged 65, makes a similar declaration of service. He was discharged 16 Feb. 1778. He was a farmer and rents land. His sons are all of age and have left him. His wife is aged 63 and he has three daughters, two under age. He owns five head of cattle, a sorrel mare, eighteen hogs, two ploughs and household furniture. Larner BRADSHAW of Mercer Co., Ky., private in the regiment of Col. FLEMING in the Virginia Line for four years, was placed on the Kentucky pension roll at $8 per month under the Act of 1818 from 4 Oct. 1819. Certificate 17542 was issued 19 June 1820. The administrator of Larner BRADSHAW was paid arrears of pension to 25 Nov. 1825 [the date of his death]. The capitalization of last names except for the first one are mine.     3. I am new to this list, and am looking for information on Kitty BRADSHAW and Alexander BRADSHAW (I think there is a tie between the two, but not sure). I don't know where Kitty BRADSHAW was born, but she married James CAMPBELL in Garrard County, KY. They had two daughters (at least). Jane Francis CAMPBELL was born abt 1815 in KY, died abt 1909 in Jackson County, MO. Mary CAMPBELL was born ?, died in MO. Jane Francis CAMPBELL married Alexander BRADSHAW (s/o James and Frances (SUMMERS) BRADSHAW 26 July 1836 in Mercer County, KY. The BRADSHAW's had a large plantation in KY, which was taken by General Lee. Mary CAMPBELL married first to William CALDWELL. She married second to George MOORE in Garrard County. They had at least two children, Carry and Jud, and then moved to MO. Mary was schizophrenic, and died in the MO State Insane Asylum. She is buried in Belton, MO. Carry MOORE married David NATION, and became famous for smashing up saloons during Prohibition. Alexander BRADSHAW and Jane Francis CAMPBELL had the following children: 1. M.C. (Kate), b. 1838 in KY, d. abt 1857 in Christian County, KY 2. James, b. 1839 in KY, d. abt. 1925 in Jackson County, MO. He married Cassie ? 3. Lucius Frank, b. 1843 in KY, d. abt. 1908 in CA 4. Susan Jane Jouett, b. 13 Mar 1845 in Christian County, KY, d. 21 Feb. 1935 in Tarrant County, TX (my line) She married John Henry MCLAUGHLIN 23 May 1869 in Jackson County, MO.     3. Thanks to the work of Virginia Phillips, I am posting Revolutionary Pension Applications for some of our BRADSHAW ancestors. I think you will find that her hard work is going to pay off for a lot of you. These are copies of pages of the book "Virginia Revolutionary Pension Applications Volume Nine", Abstrected and compiled by John Frederick Dorman, Washington, D.C. 1964. Thank you very much Virginia! I am posting this first as it pertains to the previous posting by me today. Page 60 BRADSHAW, William (Selah). R.1142. 10 Feb. 1838. Southampton Co., Va. Selah (X) BRADSHAW of Southampton declares she is the widow of William BRADSHAW who was in the militia service during the Revolutionary War. He was called during the first of the Revolution and served whenever his division was called out for four or five years. He served under Col. KELLO of this county. She was married soon after the war began, the marriage being published in the church and not by license. The only person living who knows of her marriage is Edith BRADSHAW who waited on her. She is now about 84 years of age. 23 Aug. 1853. Southampton Co., Va. Matildy (X) BRADSHAW of Vicksville in said county declares she is a child of William BRADSHAW who was a soldier in the Revolution. She gives a power of attorney to Edwin BRADSHAW of Southampton County to recover pension due her. The capitalization of last names is mine except for the heading name in the first line. This Sela BRADSHAW is Sela BOON(E), daughter of Ratliffe BOON(E) of Isle of Wight Co., Va. More to come. Anne

    3. I just spent several hours at the Maryland Historical Society Library. One of the books I discovered was the Virginia Revolutionary Pension Applications abstracted and compiled by John Dorman. In it I found several pages of BRADSHAW entries. If anyone would like the information I will be glad to share it. I will probably scan the page and attach it as a .tif file.     3. >From the Book Seal of Burke County North Carolina, page 109. William Bradshaw II, one of the first Bradshaws in Burke County was born in Cumberland County, Virginia, 1726. Son of William I and Judith Scruggs Bradshaw.His grand-grandfather of 1648 lived in Goochland, Virginia. William had one child. John, born in 1664 and married Elizabth Harper. They were the grandparents of William II. John and Elizabeth Harper Bradshaw was born in 1698, Henrico Co. Va. William I married Judith Scruggs in 1718, Henrico Co. Va. They had six children: Field, Charles, William II, Obedience, Tomlin, and Josiah. William Bradshaw II, born 1726, died 1811, Burke Co. NC. William married Suzanna Robinson,daughter of John Robinson, Sr., and Tabitha Jones in Richmond, Va, born 1730, Henrico Co. Va.,died 1801-1805, Burke CO. NC. William and Suzanna Robinson Bradshaw children were: a. Obadiah,born before 1755, Haywood Co. NC. and went to live in Burke and McDowell Counties NC. b. Reverend William Bradshaw III, married Mary Collicott and was the third pastor of North Catawba Baptist Church. William III gave the land for the church. Died 9 Oct 1827. c. Josiah, born 1750, married Mary Hogan, 1777. Jiosiah died 29 March 1821,at Lovelady Ford, He is buried in the Bradshaw Cemetery near North Catawba Church. d. Judith Bradshaw married Justice Beach e. Seth Bradshaw III, born 1755, married Anna Lowe. They moved to Kentucky. f. Isaiah Bradshaw, born 1755-1774, died Feb. 1820, Burke Co. NC. g. Charles Bradshaw, born 1760, died 16 March 1828, Weathy, Tn. h. Ursula Bradshaw, married Miles Abernathy, 6 Oct 1781. i. Anna Bradshaw married Field Bradshaw j. Elijah Bradshaw moved to Georgia. Josiah Bradshaw and Nanvcy Hogan Bradshaw's children were: a. Elizabeth (Betsy) born 1777, married Elijah Largent, died 3 July 1850. b. Seth Bradshaw, born 1783.(gave the land for Caldwell County) married Nancy Goldsby 1810, moved to Missouri. c. Tabitha Bradshaw, born 1748, married 1820. d. Temperance Bradshaw married Aaron Brittain Hawkins, who's father Austin Hawkins came to Burke County in 1760. He was a general in the American Army in the Revolutionary War. Temperance Bradshaw and Aaron Hawkins children were: a. Harrison Brittain b. Bradshaw c. Josiah Sliter d. Napoleon e. Losson f. Nancy (Mrs Robert Garrison) g. Eliza (Mrs Joshua Largent h. Luiza (Mrs Daniel Hicks) i. Minerva (Mrs Marcus Brittain) j. Amanda (Mrs John Duckworth) k. Mary Ann (Mrs Sidney Poteet) Many of William Bradshaw II still live in Burke County NC with varied surnames.
