Anne, Did the site where you found this cite the author or publication? Benjamin Bradshaw (father of Richard) may have been the son of John Bradshaw of Prince Edward County. In a deed dated 2/26/1759, John Bradshaw of Amelia County, Va purchased 133 acres from Peter Brown. In his will, 3/28/1787, John Bradshaw divided his estate among his children William, John, Benjamin, Thomas, Clemmons, Jeremiah, Richard, Elizabeth, Martha, Mary & Salley. Found the following in a posting to Kentucky Biographies and received permission to post it here. Hope it provides some information that will help. "#3177: History of Todd County, Kentucky, ed. J. H. Battle, 1884, F. A. Battey Publishing Co., 1884, p. 289. [Elkton Precinct] ROBERT BRADSHAW, farmer and miller, two miles south of Elkton, Todd County, was born in Halifax County, Va., on the 22d day of May, 1834, and is the son of Benjamin and Lucy (Wilkinson) Bradshaw, who came from Virginia to Kentucky in 1840. They settled in the southern portion of Todd County, purchased a farm, on which Benjamin died, and where his widow is now living. They had a family of seven children, as follows: James, Robert, Joseph, Benjamin, Martha, Richard and Charles Bradshaw, the latter of whom is deceased. The subject of these lines, Robert Bradshaw, attained his manhood in this county; was reared on the farm, meantime attending the common schools. In early manhood he learned the carpenter's trade, at which he labored for a few years, since which time he has devoted his time to agriculture, combined with which he owns and operates a flouring mill. This mill is noticed in the history of Elkton Precinct. Mr. Bradshaw, in 1861, married Miss Fannie Link, daughter of William and Martha Link, one of the old and honored families of the county. She was born in Todd County, April 9, 1844. Their children, six in number, are as follows: Ida, Charles, Vertie, Claude, Herbert and Melrose Bradshaw. Mrs. Bradshaw and the older children are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. No mention in this work of the Bradshaw connection is necessary to establish their reputation for honor, as they are respected, wherever known, for their sterling worth as citizens. I found the names of my ggrandparents listed on my grandfather, Orville Bradshaw's headstone. His birthdate was listed as 3/24/1878. Orville is buried at Red Warrior Cemetery, Kanawha County, WV. I am trying to find any record of the parents or other siblings. Thanks in advance for any help.
James Benjamin Bradshaw, an old settler of Lafayette Township (known as Benjamin B.), was born in Prince Edward County, Va., February 6, 1834, a son of Richard and Mary (Pinnich) Bradshaw, natives of Virginia. Richard Bradshaw was born in 1805, a son of Benjamin Bradshaw, a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Richard Bradshaw was a slave trader by occupation of Richmond, Va. He came to this State in 1850, locating in this township, and entered a large tract of wild land. He died in 1886. The mother of our subject died in 1877, leaving ten children, of whom the subject of this sketch is the only survivor, and Mr. Bradshaw then married (in 1878) Mrs. Martha Posey, nee Hays, of this county. She is still living in this county, the wife of Mr. Robinson, of Stephens. James B. Bradshaw came to this county at the age of seventeen years. At the age of twenty-one years he commenced work for himself, being employed in brick-making for a while, and then engaged in farming, which occupation he has since continued. He purchased his recent farm in 1878, comprising 300 acres of land, with about 100 acres under cultivation. In 1862, he enlisted in the infantry service, then detailed in the ordinance department, and served until the close of the war. Mr. Bradshaw was married in January 1861, to Miss Frances Franks, who was born in Louisiana in 1845, and is a daughter of McCanby and Rebecca (Ross) Franks, natives of Louisiana, and the fruits of this union have been nine children, seven of whom are still living, viz.: Andrew Lee (now married and farming on his father's land), James McCanby, Joseph W., Prudena Ulma, Utilla, Oscar S. and Claud, all at home. Mr. Bradshaw is a prosperous farmer, and devotes his time chiefly to the cultivation of cotton. Both he and wife are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Bradshaw is a Democrat in his political views, and takes an active interest in political matters, as well as in all work for the good of the community.[INDEX] Found this through the Rootsweb search engine. I was recently able to find the names of my ggrandfather and mother from my grandfather's headstone. (Orville Bradshaw) Any information would be greatly appreciated.
I found a plat for John Bradcher/Bradshaw of Bedford County in my files. This plat helps fill in a hole in the land records. I have been disconcerted by the apparent gap in time between the sale and purchase of land for John Bratcher/Bradshaw in the county. There are apparently still some missing land records. I also received the estate records of Arthur Bratchey from Abbeville, South Carolina. Both of these documents have been added to the Bratcher Family History web site. Richard W. I have some info on Ernest C. Bradshaw "Brad", born in England, died in Springfield, Oh in the 1940's ealy 50's.
I hope someone can help him. These are from the book "Marriage Records Of Fredericksburg And The County of Stafford, 1851-1900" FYI There is one mistake in the information...The marriage info. for Joseph STONE and Ann BRADSHAW lists her father as Harrison.....he was my ggggrandfather and his name was Harberson. I haven't really checked through thoroughly yet, so if I find any other mistakes I will post them.
