    1. [BRADSHAW] Bradshaw family legend based on Facts
    2. Scott &Teddie Anne Stueber
    3. Hello Bradshaws! I took a little 20-mile trip into town yesterday to the local Library to look through the shelves of Virginia Genealogy books housed in their Genealogy Room. I found something quite interesting pertaining to a family legend. My GGGrandmother (1822-1913) wrote in her journal that the first Bradshaw (of our family, I presume) "came from England with Victor Harvey's son(s) and brought with him at least 7 sons and a daughter, but no wife". It is a well-known story in our family that we have speculated about it for years. She also wrote that this first Bradshaw was of some nobility. Found: Source-"EARLY VIRGINIA IMMIGRANTS 1623-1666" by George Cabell Greer, Clerk of Virginia State Land Office. Baltimore Publication Co, Inc, 1978 [originally published in Richmond, Virginia, 1912; reprinting began again in 1960 >1973 > 1978]: Greer writes: "Since the publication of "Hotten's Immigrants", no successful effort has been made to gather together, in one volume, a list of the thousands of persons who came into Virginia during the early period of her life. "The records of the land Office in Richmond remain the only source from which these names can now be obtained. As the records stand, it is simply impossible, without the most extensive & expensive research, to obtain names of persons who came to Virginia, unless they themselves were patentees of land; and the great majority of immigrants to the colony do not appear as patentees..." -George Cabell Greer (1912). He goes on to say that 25,000 names are listed in these old records and he has published them in this book, as they appear in the records. [Note: The first name = the immigrant, and the 2nd name, following the word "by", is the patentee or party bringing them over (from Europe)] I copied all the Bradshaw names found in the list and found the following: BRADSHAW, Robert, 1640, by Thomas HARVEY, James City Co. This, of course, caught my eye. So I searched for any "Harveys" who may have come over on that same date and ship & I found: HARVEY, John, 1640, by Thomas Harvey, his father, James City Co. HARVEY, Mary, 1640, by Thos. Harvey, her husband, James City Co. Of course, the first thing I noticed was that the name was not Victor Harvey, but Thomas Harvey, but it is amazingly accurate after that. Anyone have any info about this Robert Bradshaw? In IGI Files, I found a Robert Bradshaw listed in 1622. I also found a Mrs. Mary Harvey Married: 1721 to Simeon Harvey, Jamestown, James City, VA. Welcome any comments. Please jump in on this. Anyone have anything more they can add about this historical record that has shed new light on my Bradshaw Family Legend? ~Annie~ [email protected]

    2. ANNE B. MUSSER
    3. Hello Mark, Peggy died without a will in 1826 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. I don't know how old she was yet. William Clemmons will is on file in Amelia County Will Book 1774-1780 dated 1774. It establishes that Peggy and John were married but that's all I know. At this time I am still going through my notebooks and reentering almost everything by hand so, it's slow. If anyone has access to Amelia County records I would be glad to pay for a copy of William Clemmons' will. I thought I had a copy, but I can't locate it right now. Anne

    3. Yes, I've seen that before, too. However, my William was married by 1767. That is at least 15 years earlier than any of the rest of John and Margaret's children. I don't think he was one of theirs. If he was, who was the William that married 1783 to Mary Kirkland? My William left for Pittsylvania county by 1769. This entry appears in the 1763 tax list of Nottoway Parish, Amelia Co., VA: Bradshaw, William 3 tithes (including Wm. Bradshaw, Jr. & John Bradshaw) I interpret this to mean that there was a head of household in 1763 named William Bradshaw. He had two other adult males in the same household: Wm., Jr. and John. Who was this elder William? (John III's brother?) Were Wm., Jr. and John his sons? Where was John III living in 1763? He seems to disappear from the Amelia Co., VA tax lists between 1755 and 1762. Was he in Prince Edward County after that? Kenneth Bradshaw wrote: > Mark i show John Bradshaw the III b 1721 and Margaret Clemmons the Parents of William Bradshaw b 1747 > Kenneth > > "Mark B. 3. Anne, this William Bradshaw (b. ca. 1747) is the subject of my Bradshaw web site at <http://www.geocities.com/~arslanm/bradshaw/bradshaw.html>. As of yet, nobody has found a place for him in the Bradshaw families of Virginia, unfortunately. My guess is that this William might be a son of John Bradshaw and Anne Hamblin's son William Bradshaw, who was born 9 Jun 1719 in Bristol Parish, Prince George Co., VA. I wish I could prove it (or someone else could prove otherwise). That would make him a 1st-cousin to the other William Bradshaw who married in Amelia Co., VA in 1783 to Mary Kirkland. William Bradshaw (b. ca. 1747) married Susannah Hutcheson. Their son Charles Bradshaw married Hannah Bates in Franklin Co., VA on 11 Mar 1790. By the way, Charles' younger brother Moses Bradshaw was my 4th-great-grandfather. Please send your correspondent to my web site. I'd like to hear from him. Thanks. "ANNE B. 3. Hello, I was wondering if anyone has a Charles as a son of William 1747, Amelia Co., Va. I received an e-mail from someone asking for information on one of his descendants and I don't have a Charles as one of his sons. Did I miss something when I was trying to put my file back together? She also has William being born 1747 and I have his birth as 1765. Then she has Charles being born in 1767. Help! I have him marrying twice. Mary KIRKLAND..having 3 kids, and Tempey FOSTER..I have no children for this marriage. Hope someone can help me get this straight. Anne

    3. I believe that Gideon had a first-cousin Isaac Bradshaw, who was a son of Gideon's aunt Ann (or Biddy) Bradshaw who married Field Robinson Bradshaw (her first-cousin, son of Field Bradshaw & Judith Robinson). 1. [BRADSHAW] Gideon Bradshaw - Burke County, NC
    2. I just received from Burke County, NC Archives a copy of the marriage bond for Giddian Bradsher (Gideon Bradshaw) and Mary Ennis. Gideon was named after Gideon Thompson, father of Elizabeth Thompson. They were married in Burke County July 26, 1816. Gideon was supposedly son of Isaiah Bradshaw and Elizabeth Thompson. I have also been told he was the son of William Seth Bradshaw and Anna Lowe. Does anyone have any proof of who his parents were? Also, on the marriage bond it states, "Know all men by these presents, that we Giddian Bradsher and Isaac Bradsher . . ." Would this be Gideon's first cousin, son of William Bradshaw and Charlotte Williams or is there another Isaac? Does anyone have any clues? Thanks. Alene Bradshaw [email protected]

    1. [BRADSHAW] FW: Query on the Bradshaw mother of Caroline Craig dau of Samuel Craig

    3. -----Original Message----- From: Amy Crump [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, October 19, 1999 6:32 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Query on the Bradshaw mother of Caroline Craig dau of Samuel Craig I have many records showing John Eli Crump and Caroline Craig as parents of my ancestors and their siblings marrying and dying, but I thus far have the Crump family memory showing this relationship. The 1860 census of Caldwell Co. NC shows Caroline(20) and J.E. Crump(25) with Mary(2) and Martin(4/12) Crumpliving next to Samuel Craige(57),Caroline (27) Craig,Alfred(25),Elisha, L.A. (17) Craige and May (Mary?) Bradshaw (77). I believe Caroline was counted at both farms and her mother had already died. Our understanding is that Caroline's grandmother Bradshaw never married. Do you have any records to cover this area including the names of Caroline's grandparents? John Eli and Elijah H. Crump lived near Martin son of Conrad Crump as well as Samuel Craige so the families were very close. I recently had a person claim that Caroline did not marry John Eli Crump but a Henry Bean. I think she may have been able to do that after 1904 when John died. G. Norman Crump at [email protected]
