Neil, I'm not sure this will clear up too much, because there is considerable disagreement about the two Johns, mainly because of Wendell Bradley's statement in his book. However, I have included what I have on John and Mary Ledbetter Bradley's family. If you want his children with his first wife, please let me know and I send that too. The older John (b. July 13, 1707) is the younger John's uncle. I have also included the younger John's Granfather's family group sheet as I have it now that includes the older John. You will get two copies of this as I sent you a copy and a copy to the list, because I did not want you to miss getting the data and I thought some other folks might want it too. Take care! There is an entry in the IGI that John Bradley mentioned Isaac in his Will dated 24 June 1778 in Tryon Co, NC. I have a transcript of the Will. The Will was proved on 20 Oct 1778. John had two wives as stated in his Will. Mary was the last and appointed an executor along with Richard Ledbetter. John mentions each of his children by both marriages in his Will, including Isaac. I have listed all of John's children as he did in his Will. I have a transcription of the Will, which is now in the State Archives, Raleigh, NC. "Smoky Mountain Clans, Vol. 2" by Donald B. Reagan, 1983, p. 133-135. There was also a note by Mrs. Milton W. Neathery, 950 Forest Rd., Athens, GA. 30605 that Mary was John's second wife--Code 27268. It has been reported that John died of injuries he received when he fell inside Fort Hampton during the Solar Eclipse of 23 June 1778. John wrote his will the next day. It is believed that he died later that day, 24 June 1778. The Bradleys and Ledbetters were living in Rutherford Co, NC, in the 3rd Co., near Cedar Creek, and are listed there during the 1790 Census. There is also a Harris family in the area. Wendell Bradley in his book on p. 416-417, shows John's father to be Edward Bradley, Sr. (1680-1732) born in Northern Ireland. However, John's birth date is 10 Sep 1739. Wifes Notes... The date (1758) for John Bradley's and Mary's marriage is probably incorrect. Based on the data available, a more reasonable date is about 1761(age of children by both wives). I will use 1761until it can be verified. For a list of Mary and John Goodbread's children see the Bradley folder. References: "Smoky Mountain Clans, Vol. 2" by Donald B. Reagan, 1983, p. 133-135. Wendell Bradley in his book on p. 416-417. M Child: Thomas BRADLEY Birth: About 1705 Place: VA? Spouse: Ann 2. M Child: Isaac BRADLEY Birth: 18 May 1705 3. M Child: John BRADLEY Birth: 13 Jul 1707 Place: Northumberland (now Middlesex), VA Husbands Notes... Edward's Will was executed in Caroline Co, VA in 1734 by James Terry Bradley. Wendell Bradley in his book on p. 416-417, shows John's father to be Edward Bradley, Sr. (1680-1732?) born in Northern Ireland. I have copies of some of Wendell's book. Wendell states in his book that Edward died during 1732. If Edward died in 1732, it would be about impossible for Edward to be the father of John, who married Mary Ledbetter, because that John's birth date is 10 Sep 1739. History Note: Samuel Bradley's Will: "In the name of the Lord, Amen. This 5 day of July in ye year of our Lord 1693...... I will that all my goods and chattels be equally divided into three parts, amoungst my loving father, Samuel Bradley, my brother in law, William Kidd, and my loving brother, Henry Bradley. And lastly...my said brother in law, Captain William Kidd, to be executor. William Kidd was hung in England in 1701 and became even more infamous with the publication of Robert Louis Stevenson's novel "Treasure Island."
