    3. I am related through: Francis, Francis, Francis, Ebenezer, Sarah, then through Job Perry, Monson Perry, and my GGrandfather Burr Perry. I also have in another line a William Bradley (who married Alice Prichard), Joseph Bradley (who married Silenia (not sure of spelling)) Brockett, Samuel Bradley (married Abigail Atwater), Lydia Bradley (married Ebenezer Darrow), Eunice Darrow (married John Warner), Lydia Warner (married Abraham Peet), Milo Peet (married Harriet Nash Saunders). and my GGrandmother Kate E, Peet (who married Burr Perry.) I have no idea if the William Bradley mentioned above is related to the Francis Bradley line. I see from your info Francis' father was William. Is there a connection? I would appreciate any info you have on the two Williams you list as I have no info earlier than Francis. Do you b. and d. dates? Spouses? 1. [BRADLEY-L] George Washington Bradley correction
    2. In my posting about needed data of George Washington Bradley, I erroneously noted his birth year as 1850. He was born in 1820. The only thing I have to substantiate that is the 1850 census of Dallas County Arkansas shows him as head of household whose age was 30. Sorry folks, about the mistake and thanks to those who caught my mistake. Sure hope someone out there knows more about him than I do. Fred Huggins

    2. Rathbun A Daniel
    3. Nathaniel BRADLEY m. Mary EVANS, 29 JAN 1666 @ Dorchester, MA. (old style or new, marriage date?) I'm interested in the ancestry of this Nathaniel, said to be son of a John BRADLEY. Nathaniel said b. 1631 or abt 1636. (could he be related to the John who settled Dedham in 1644 ?) I'm hoping to fit the connection to Joshua BRADLEY Sr., who married 9 JAN 1770 @ Dorchester to Sarah CLAP(P) [ hey let's all give a round of applause for the lucky bride & groom!! ] {pretend WAV file} "...CLAP CLAPP CLAP CLAPP CLAP..." IGIs have a Joshua BRADLEY b 1746 (just about right) @ Braintree to Alexander BRADLEY [b. 26 JAN 1718 Dorchester] son of John {?Preston} BRADLEY [b. 25 OCT 1678 Dorch.] & Tamsin ROUSE, and he was son of Nathaniel & Mary (EVANS) BRADLEY. Help appreciated on any insights for ancestry and children, grand- children etc. for Nathaniel & Mary (EVANS) BRADLEY, in or near the magic 5-mile triangle "Dorchester-Roxbury-Braintree" Mass. I sometimes wonder if this branch were "non grata", as no one seems to ever discuss them, and I haven't yet found a book on this branch. 1. [BRADLEY-L] George Washington Bradley
    2. Need information on gr grandfather George Washington Bradley, born in 1850 in Culpeper County, Virginia. Married Kitturah Ann Elizabeth Rosalina Floradina Mary Nathaniel Wheeler (surname could be Smith?). George was a degreed lawyer who migrated to small town of Princeton in Dallas County Arkansas in 1847 where he set up his law practice. When the family moved to Arkansas, they had three children all born in Virginia - John S. (b. 1845), Sarah Olivia (b. 1846), and my grandfather, James Owens (b. 1847). A fourth child, Mary V. was born in 1848 in Arkansas. Four more children were born into the family: (1) Madora F. ("Mittie") (b. 1853); (2) Daniel Webster (b. 1856); (3) George Washington, Jr. (b. (1858) and (4) Nannie M. (b. 1861). George served in teh 2nd Arkansas Calvary during the Civil War and was captured at Longview, Arkansas in 1861. He died in a Prisoner of War camp in Little Rock on May 11, 1864. Have been unable to obtain any information about him prior to his arrival in Arkansas in 1847. My access to Virginia records is very limited. Would appreciate any help anyone can give. Fred Huggins, 1471 Park AVenue, San Jacinto, CA 92583-5722

    1. [BRADLEY-L] Edison (Edward) Filor Bradley
    2. Candice Bradley
    3. I've posted a little info a while back on my grandfather, Edison Filor BRADLEY. I haven't had any luck learning about my grandfather other than 1920 Cleveland, Ohio U.S. census data. I have no pictures of my grandfather and my father doesn't know much about him. He was born in Ohio about 1891. He married my grandmother Flora Adella NEWBERRY in Rochester in 1911. They had two sons, Charles Edward BRADLEY (my father, born Rochester 1912, residing in Florida) and Alfred Filor BRADLEY of Rochester (1913-1988). Flora and Edison (Edward) were separated in 1921. Flora died in 1933 and Edison outlived her, but probably died some time in the late 1930s (we think). Clues? The middle name FILOR. Variations on the spelling of this name are FILER and FYLER. Filors trace back to before the revolution. I am wondering whether my grandfather's mother's maiden name was FILOR. Does anyone with BRADLEY genealogy resources know of any BRADLEY married to a FILOR -- and living in or near Rochester NY in the late 19th century? Another clue: The name EDISON. My grandfather seems to have switched his name back and forth from Edison to Edward. I have found an Edson BRADLEY in Roxbury, Litchfield county, Connecticut in the 1840 census. He has two small children, one boy and one girl, and he and his wife are in their 20s. Does anyone on this list link to this Connecticut Edson BRADLEY or have a resource which identifies him? I am wondering whether this is my grandfather Edison Filor Bradley's great grandfather. Perhaps Edison is a family name, or perhaps it was the last name of another ancestor. Supposedly Edison Bradley was drafted for WWI and sent to Fort Dix for training, but after a flu epidemic (1918?) was sent home and never served overseas. I am unable to locate his draft registration information. He was an electrician and he also worked for the phone company in Rochester. Everything I know about Edison BRADLEY is on this web page: http://www.athenet.net/~djbyrne/family/bradley.html Thanks much! Candice Bradley Appleton, WI

    1. [BRADLEY-L] thanks for Bradley history info! and questions
    2. Candice Bradley
    3. The posts on the history of the Bradley name are very interesting. I would be curious to know the names of the Bradley original immigrants to the US (17th century?) and their places of settlement. Does anyone have such a "list" -- or is it just too vast a list of patriarchs to figure out? I would like to see those four Bradley coats of arms also. Are these posted online anywhere? Another question: What are the best published sources of Bradley genealogy? I am particularly interested in the U.S., but British Isles resources would be interesting too. Again, thanks to those of you who posted on Bradley history. Please keep that kind of info coming! Candice Bradley Appleton, WI

    1. [BRADLEY-L] What's In Your Name
    2. Frances I. Bohannon
    3. What's In Your Name. BRADLEY Memphis Tn. Jan. 1977, Memphis P.S. MANY SENTIMENTAL journeys were take last summer by Americans celebrating the Bicentennial year. The paths of history wound throughout New England where the first surnames were brought to these shores. Familiar names like Bradley were traced by bearers of the same name in the oldest towns and cities. In 1635 Daniel Bradley arrived in Haverhill, Mass. and later in 1662 became a taxpayer at Rowely Mass. In 1642 John Bradley settled at Dedham, Mass. In 1644 Williiam Bradley took the oath of fidelity at New Haven, Conn. In 1644 Francis Bradlee saied from England and arrrived in Conn. Should these Bradleys have searched for ancestors in the British Isles, they might have found roots of origin in England, Ireland and Scotland. The earliest appearance of the name in England was spelled de Bradelai. Brodelegh was another ancient form of the name. One of the first ancestors was Roger de Bradley who held 40 acres of land in Walsingham in 1183. In Ireland, the original form of the name was O'Brolchain, with a different origin from the English families. The original Irish Bradleys were seated at Tyrone. A notable family in Ulster descended from Swibhne Meann, king of Ireland during the 7th Century. The Scottish Bradleys came from the lands of Braidlie in the barony of Hawick, Roxburghshire. Ancient tax rolls record a Bradely in Berwick in 1291 and a William de Bradeleye in Roxburghe in 1296. Numerous townships in England bore the name which means "broad meadow." The oldest coat of arms granted to the name bears three boars' heads colored gold, between a gold chevron on a red sheild. My cousin, Jean McCollum, from Arkansas, sent me this clipping several years ago. I can not make out the name of the person, who wrote the article, as it is hand written, at the bottom of the article. I have 4 different Coat of Arms, for the BRADLEY name. Maybe each country had their own. Frances BRADLEY Bohannon
