Hi All, I've been watching this grave marker thread on a few lists and just wanted to say - if they actually came off graves this is horrible. That said I wanted to add that there is another possiblity. When making arrangements for my mothers funeral with an friend of a friend who owns a funeral home I noticed grave markers leaning against the wall of his garage. I asked him about them and he said they were ones the government provides for veterans that were not used by the families. He keeps them so that a less fortunate family that can not afford a marker can have the marked side put to the ground or ground off and use it for their needs. Marianne
Please send this out to all the lists that you are on. We must deluge e-bay and the sellers with e-mail letting them know how outraged we are. Does anyone have any info on Will Bradley who married Cora Lee Whitley, not sure where they are from but their children were born in Atlanta Ga early to mid 1890s and later, the family resided in Columbus Ga thanks
Neil, I'm not sure this will clear up too much, because there is considerable disagreement about the two Johns, mainly because of Wendell Bradley's statement in his book. However, I have included what I have on John and Mary Ledbetter Bradley's family. If you want his children with his first wife, please let me know and I send that too. The older John (b. July 13, 1707) is the younger John's uncle. I have also included the younger John's Granfather's family group sheet as I have it now that includes the older John. You will get two copies of this as I sent you a copy and a copy to the list, because I did not want you to miss getting the data and I thought some other folks might want it too. Take care! There is an entry in the IGI that John Bradley mentioned Isaac in his Will dated 24 June 1778 in Tryon Co, NC. I have a transcript of the Will. The Will was proved on 20 Oct 1778. John had two wives as stated in his Will. Mary was the last and appointed an executor along with Richard Ledbetter. John mentions each of his children by both marriages in his Will, including Isaac. I have listed all of John's children as he did in his Will. I have a transcription of the Will, which is now in the State Archives, Raleigh, NC. "Smoky Mountain Clans, Vol. 2" by Donald B. Reagan, 1983, p. 133-135. There was also a note by Mrs. Milton W. Neathery, 950 Forest Rd., Athens, GA. 30605 that Mary was John's second wife--Code 27268. It has been reported that John died of injuries he received when he fell inside Fort Hampton during the Solar Eclipse of 23 June 1778. John wrote his will the next day. It is believed that he died later that day, 24 June 1778. The Bradleys and Ledbetters were living in Rutherford Co, NC, in the 3rd Co., near Cedar Creek, and are listed there during the 1790 Census. There is also a Harris family in the area. Wendell Bradley in his book on p. 416-417, shows John's father to be Edward Bradley, Sr. (1680-1732) born in Northern Ireland. However, John's birth date is 10 Sep 1739. Wifes Notes... The date (1758) for John Bradley's and Mary's marriage is probably incorrect. Based on the data available, a more reasonable date is about 1761(age of children by both wives). I will use 1761until it can be verified. For a list of Mary and John Goodbread's children see the Bradley folder. References: "Smoky Mountain Clans, Vol. 2" by Donald B. Reagan, 1983, p. 133-135. Wendell Bradley in his book on p. 416-417. Wendell Bradley in his book on p. 416-417, shows John's father to be Edward Bradley, Sr. (1680-1732?) born in Northern Ireland. I have copies of some of Wendell's book. Wendell states in his book that Edward died during 1732. If Edward died in 1732, it would be about impossible for Edward to be the father of John, who married Mary Ledbetter, because that John's birth date is 10 Sep 1739. History Note: Samuel Bradley's Will: "In the name of the Lord, Amen. This 5 day of July in ye year of our Lord 1693...... I will that all my goods and chattels be equally divided into three parts, amoungst my loving father, Samuel Bradley, my brother in law, William Kidd, and my loving brother, Henry Bradley. And lastly...my said brother in law, Captain William Kidd, to be executor. William Kidd was hung in England in 1701 and became even more infamous with the publication of Robert Louis Stevenson's novel "Treasure Island." I have Family Treemaker, Version 4.0 and have purchased Ultimate Family Tree. These are not put out by the same manufactures. Which one should I keep? I like the Family Treemaker but thought I was upgrading and realize my mistake. Before I take this back, I'd like some advice from you seasoned users. Please reply privately. Thank you. I sent this information to several other mailing lists that I subscribe to and the response was overwhelming, so I thought I'd share the information with a few other lists. Just thought I'd pass some information on that might prove helpful to those interested in the purchase of a microfiche/microfilm reader. I was in the market for a reader myself so I could save some trips back and forth to the LDS center or library to view the same films over and over. I always felt like I was rushed and it always seemed that there were a line of people waiting to use the readers. I began looking around for one to buy for my home and found them to be very expensive for the amount of use it may get. Then someone suggested I look into the State surplus equipment. I live in the State of Maryland and they have a surplus warehouse open to the public for purchase of used state office equipment. Well I stopped by there recently and found that they had about 10 different machines for sale ranging from very large ones with attached printers to smaller desktop types. They ranged in price from $25 to $40. I purchased one of the smaller ones for $25 and it is absolutely perfect for home use. It was in very good condition and will suffice nicely for genealogy home use. I have already begun ordering microfilm rolls for about $10 each and hope to put together a collection of those I use most in a very short time. I'm not sure if all states have such a surplus warehouse, but it certainly is worth checking if you're looking for a good price on a used reader. Hope this proves to be of help to someone as it sure was a find for me. Good luck. I must caution you first, the machines that they have available are mostly MICROFICHE readers, but with a little ingenuity, they can be rigged to run microfilm rolls through as well. Most of them appeared to be in fairly good condition and you can plug and test them right on site. It might be a good idea to take a fiche/film along just to try out. Note, all sales are final, so what you get is what you live with! The State Surplus Warehouse in Maryland is located on Brockbridge Rd. in the Jessup area. From I-95, take Rt. 175 east to Brockbridge Rd. and turn right. Follow Brockbridge Rd. past the House of Corrections and the Women's Prison and you will eventually come to the Warehouse on the left side of the road. You can also access it from Rt. 32 by taking the Dorsey Run Rd. exit and following it around to Brockbridge, but it's a little more confusing. Hope this helps and good luck to you. Let me know if I can help you any further. Mike Kearney
Where can you purchase the film for about $10.00 ?? Would appreciate having the address.... Thanks, Leah

On 4/20/99 Ron Gollberg wrote: Christina/Bill: I am a descendant of Taliaferro through the Taliaferro, jr. line. In the most recent queries to CRAIG-L@rootsweb you list Elizabeth Craig and husband Joseph Comer. Bill Davis lists Joseph Comer as spouse of Francis Craig, and James Matthews as spouse of Elizabeth. Which is correct? Also is John Sims who married Mary Craig the son of Nancy Boswell Sims? And if so what is his father's name. Thanks. Ron Gollberg. In response: Bill Davis is right about the marriage of Elizabeth to James Matthews and Frances to Joseph Comer. I personally have no documentation regarding either Frances or Elizabeth and he has obviously done extensive documenting. I think what happened is I wrote the wrong husband's name in in listing the photos I have. I should have said "Frances Craig and her husband, Joseph Comer." The photos with entries made on the back by my grandmother say only: Joseph Comer and Mrs. Joseph Comer. Sorry about the error. The following is the descendant tree as I currently believe it to be for William Sims, father of John Sims who married Mary May Craig, Mary and John were step-siblings, as Mary's father, Richard Craig, married John's mother, Nancy Boswell, around 1853. She was his 4th wife.
