    3. In case anyone is interested, the following new RootsWeb surname lists have been established for the following: BRADLEY-ROOTS BRADSHAW BRATCHER Subscription details are provided below. There is only one RULE for all three lists... "Treat all list members as you wish to be treated." Of course, there are some common sense DON'Ts... like do not send attachments to lists because attachments will lock-up some email programs and some ISP forbids customers sending or receiving attachments. ------------------- To subscribe to the BRADLEY-ROOTS list, send an email message to: BRADLEY-ROOTS-L-request@rootsweb.com On the first line of text, enter only the following word: subscribe Turn off any signature line. ------------------- To subscribe to the BRADSHAW list, send an email message to: BRADSHAW-L-request@rootsweb.com On the first line of text, enter only the following word: subscribe Turn off any signature line. ------------------------- To subscribe to the BRATCHER list, send an email message to: BRATCHER-L-request@rootsweb.com On the first line of text, enter only the following word: subscribe Turn off any signature line. --------------------- Anyone needing assistance in subscribing to any of the above lists, please contact me at my private email address: myoung@icok.net Since the BRADLEY-L listowner has kicked me off the list twice for being critical of his rules, I probably will be kicked off a third time... very shortly after sending this message. 1. BRATCHER/BRADSHAW, Bratchers of Bedford Co VA 1750-1800
    2. Richard W. Bratcher
    3. I do not have any proof of this name change, but have the following clues. 1. Martin Symoniak of Greensboro, North Carolina wrote me that his wife's great-great grandmother was Susannah Bratcher, born 1787, in Bedford Co., Va.. She married Isham Goin, Jr. in Bedford County in 1802. By 1808, they were in Campbell County, TN. She died there in 1860. Susannah's father was Canada Bratcher Sr., born in VA about 1767. He was in Bedford County. in 1800, in Campbell County, TN in 1813 and in Warren County, TN in 1820 & 1830 where he died in 1834. Mr. Symoniak related that he felt the name had changed. He states that Canada's father was John Bradshaw whose name changed at some point. He also states that John's father was William Bradshaw who was referred to as Bratcher. Mr. Symoniak refers to Charles Scruggs will where he refers to William as "my son William Bratcher". Evidently this is a will dated December 20, 1718 in Henrico County, Virginia. Mr. Symoniak's source of information was the Bradshaw-Bratcher Newsletter edited by Mr. R.D. Bradshaw. This quarterly evidently ceased to be published in 1991. I have no more information about that publication or Mr. Bradshaw. 2. I have done only a small amount of research concerning this line of Bratcher's. I have seen John, his brother and two of his sisters show up in indexes of the marriage records of Bedford/Botetourt County areas of Virginia. There is a reference in a 1785 survey to a Bratcher Creek in Botetourt County. 3. My major focus is another line of Bratcher's that originate from Laurens/Edgefield County, South Carolina. John Bratcher, born 1771 in South Carolina is my direct ancestor. He and a number of other people, including William Bratcher (born 1766), migrated from Laurens County, South Carolina to Grayson County, Kentucky about 1804/5. If you have found any information concerning these folks, I would appreciate your sharing it. >Teresa Barley wrote: >> >> Harold, >> Re your post about Obedience BRADSHAW who married Isham Meador. >> Do you have any proof that she was actually a BRADSHAW and not >> BRATCHER? >My grandmother Sarah FENIX's relatives spelled it BRATCHER BRADLEY > BRADSHAW BRASSHEAR BREDLY BRAYLEY BRASSHER - depending on which one >you spoke to or heard of - apparently there was a family squabble & >some relatives changed the spelling on purpose to distance themselves >-sound familiar? 2. Unfortunately any support for Jim Young's letter will not be sent to him. He had the "audacity" to disagree with the way in which the Bradley list is being run and has been struck off the list. Personally I think this is unsupportable action by our list owner. I think we have all received chastizing e -mail at one time from him because our subject line was not as detailed as he desires. I very naively agreed to be a mentor, thinking that a softer reminder from me would be the lesser of two evils. Having received several incomprehensible messages from him, I decided not to bother. If you wish to comment on Jim's letter please send mail to myoung@icok.net He would appreciate your support. If you wish to communicate with me please send mail to PhilippaS@aol.com I am sure I will be struck off the list too for making my feelings known on the subject. We are the true listowners and we deserve better treatment. Philippa

    3. Hi all, I would also like to applaud Philippa and Jim. I think they are right. I think it's time we (the list members) discuss changes. I think there are people out there who are afraid to post. Who wants to be barked at every time we post something. This is not the military. It's supposed to be a friendly way to exchange information among cousins. I am on several of Harold's lists and would rather be yanked off all of them. Please send all comments to me at suzieq@infi.net.
