    1. [BRADLEY-ROOTS-L] Cumberland County and John Bradley
    2. Kris Bradley
    3. Hello, I am looking for parents of a John Bradley b. abt. 1780 somewhere in VR. I know that he married Mary Weatherford in 1802 in Charlotte Co. VR. I also know that he belonged to the Meherrin Baptist Church in neighboring Lunenburg Co. Per that churches minutes John transferred his membership back and forth from Buckingham Baptist Church (assuming in Buckingham Co.) I don't speak or read late 1700's church minutes English very well but that's the jest of it. At this point my search has taking me to Buckingham County. Per the 1810 census there was a John Bradley in Buckingham County but he had too many children and all the wrong ages. So this puts me looking at neighboring counties knowing people traveled great distances to go to church in those days. In Cumberland County there's John with one wife 26-45, one male son under 10, and one female under 10, which fits the John I'm looking for to a tee. (John had 2 children; Louisa b. ? and James b. 1808) So now I need better conformation so I start looking at wills and find one from Hezekiah Bradley from Cumberland Co. that mentions John as a son. The dates put this as close to the John I'm looking for. But I understand that Hezekiah Bradley (who was the son of John Bradley b. 28 Oct 1718 m. Phoebe Holloway) was someone that there is not much information about much less his family.. Is anyone in a position to help me in my search? Below are notes on John in hopes that they be of help. Finley R. Bradley http://www.parsonstech.com/genealogy/trees/fbradley/Bradley.htm 1780 - Circa, born in Virginia. 1802 - Oct 14, Married to Mary T. Weatherford in Charlotte Co., Virginia 1808 - Circa, son James born in Virginia 1818 - Sept 25, received deed of gift from his father-in-law, Joseph Weatherford included 1 Negro man named Joseph, 1 boy named Jeremiah, 1 negro woman named Nanny and two hundred acres of land. deed also states if I (Joseph Weatherford) die without leaving any other heirs I leave to John Bradley 3 Negroes, Joe, Peter, and Jinny and 350 acres of land, stock of all kinds, household and kitchen furniture. 1824-Oct 30, John Bradley, Mary his wife and Joseph Weatherford and Susannah his wife sold to John Goode 280 acres of land in Charlotte Co., Virginia for $350.00 1824- Ask Meherrin Baptist Church for "Letter". 1824 - Moved to Sumner Co., Tennessee from Charlotte Co., Virginia. 1828 - Had his brother-in-law Joseph Weatherford (Jr.) brought to Sumner Co., from Virginia by Seaton Duffer. Before leaving for VR, John agreed to pay Seaton $30 for his effort. When Seaton returned John wouldn't pay up. Eventually, Seaton was paid $10. 1832 - Received Kentucky land grant of 25 acres on Trammel Creek, Sumner Co., Tennessee (now Macon Co.) 1835 - Received Kentucky land grant of 50 acres on Trammel Creek, Sumner Co., Tennessee (now Macon Co.) 1841 - Nov 6, signed a petition to be dismissed from Testament Church in order to constitute a new church at Siloam. 1845 - Sept, Wife Mary Died, recorded in Siloam Church minutes. 1845 - Oct 9, Sold 127 acres of land in Macon Co., Tennessee to Annanias Epperson and moved to the Bransford Community of Sumner Co., Tennessee with his son James 1846 - Oct, requested a letter of dismissal from Siloam Church, it was granted (did not find where he rejoined the church, however he is again a member in March of 1849) 1849 - March, Bro. John Bradley complained to the church that Bro. Joseph Weatherford charged him in his bill of chancery for twenty years of services and running away with his father-in-laws property from Virginia. 1850 - Living with his son James and Daughter-in-law Susan (Davis) in Civil District 13, Sumner Co., Tennessee. 1860 - living with his son James and daughter-in-law Caroline (Reese) in 13th Civil district of Sumner Co., Tennessee. 1868 - Dec 26, date of death, recorded in Siloam Church minutes.

    3. Hi Again: Do you have a copy of John Bradley's will which was probated 20 Oct 1778? If not I can send you an abstracted copy. Also I checked on genserve and a couple of trees have this John Bradley born 10 Sept 1739 and migrating with his parents Thomas Bradley b. 1705 and mother Ann to Brunswick CO VA and later to Granville CO VA . On April 8 1761 John Bradley bought 270 acres of land in Granville CO NC . On 24 June 1772 He sold 300 acres of land in what had by then become Bute CO NC. About 1773 john Bradley migrated to Tyrone CO NC.During the next 5 years he purchased 100 acres in Rutheford and 400acres in Burke CO . It is reported that he died of injuries he received when he fell inside Fort Hampton during an eclipse of the sun on 23 june 1778. His will is dated that day. Also One of the genserve Trees shows John's Grandfather was also named Thomas Bradley born in 1655 and married his wife Elizibeth who was born in 1680. That would have made him 50 when his son Thomas was born so I don't know how accurate these trees are. I have that generally found the genserve trees are a lot more accurate than the FTW or LDS trees are. LDS particularly has a lot of errors. I have found my John Bradley son of Robert tied to 3 different lines that I could prove that were not correct. Hope this is of interest to you. I only collected information on the John Bradley that Married Sarah Morgan in 1757 and Mary Ledbetter in 1759 to prove that he was not the John Bradley that married Mary Rhodes and Rebecca Jameson. as some researchers had indicated. Apparently you picked up the place and date of birth for your John Bradley from one of those Trees. >
